Got ourselves a Kayak, Brad the man in charge showed us the range, after listening to what we believe we needed, he then provided us with guidance and instruction on what would suit and left us to make our selection, which we did. Our choice was made, he then offered us guidance on upgrades, a demonstration on assembly and advice on use. As we are seniors we appreciated his input as his knowledge was extensive and guidance appreciated. Thank you Brad, we can now kayak safely and confidently. This review refers to the customer service of the business and not the kayak. The kayak was only collected yesterday so we cannot yet comment on the product.

In my view, the customer service could certainly see some improvement.

We attended the business premises at Burleigh Heads on Tuesday 30 May 2023. Prior to attending the business to view the products, calls were made to the business which went unanswered so messages were left on the answering machine. No response was received to the messages.

On visiting the business, a kayak was selected and paid for. The seats were upgraded and we were told that modifications would have to be made to the kayak and, as this involved siliconing, the kayak would not be available for 6 hours to allow the silicone to set. We had travelled from Brisbane and could not return in 6 hours so arrangements were made to collect the kayak on Friday 16 June when I had to return to the Gold Coast re a veterinary appointment. We were advised the alterations would be made prior to collection.

Soon after, the veterinary appointment was changed so a call was made to the business to advise that the collection day was being brought forward to Tuesday 13 June, still giving them a full two weeks notice. They advised the modifications would be made prior to collection.

A call was made to the business in the days prior to collection to confirm the pickup on 13 June. The call was not answered and a message was again left on the answering machine.

This business is closed on Mondays and does not open until 10am on Tuesday. As my veterinary appointment was over by about 9.15am, I ‘filled in time’ at Bunnings until the business opened, arriving at about 10.15am.

On arrival, the sole employee on duty was about to tuck into baked beans on toast. I advised that I had come to collect the kayak as previously arranged, expecting to just load the kayak on the ute and go. I was then asked if I could find something to do for half an hour! I presumed this was so he could have his breakfast. I indicated my reluctance to do this considering I had already been filling in time waiting for them to open at 10am.

He then asked if he could just finish his breakfast. I politely suggested he could heat it up in the microwave later.

Thinking he would then go and get me the kayak, I went to drop the sides of my ute. On my return, I discover that he has now started doing the modifications to the kayak which were supposed to have been completed over the last two weeks. These modifications took him about 15 minutes. I queried him about his previous comments that silicone was required and would take 6 hours to dry. He then inferred that silicone was not really needed and it would be fine! I asked then why this couldn’t have been done when we first purchased the kayak two weeks earlier and he indicated it was because the upgraded seats had to be ordered in. I reminded him that we viewed the seats at the time of purchase but he stated he had taken them from another kayak just to show us. It crossed my mind then to ask him why he initially told us then to return in six hours if the seats were not actually in stock and therefore unavailable but I figured by then I was just beating my head against the wall.

In further discussion he confirmed he had not received the recorded message left over the weekend because he likes to open the shop and have breakfast before he checks his emails and phone messages! Needs to get his priorities straight me thinks!

Altogether a pretty poor performance and attitude and showed very little work ethic or consideration for his customers.

I just hope now that the kayak itself lives up to expectation as the customer service certainly did not. ”

Received so much help here from Brad in choosing the right kayak and equipment. He even helped show me how to correctly load and unload my kayak and tie it to the roof racks. Would highly recommend coming here.

If you are looking for a kayak. This is the place great range, they have both sit on tops and sit in kayak's, fishing and touring. They really know there stuff, I just got my second kayak from them. They are so helpful.
