Brisbane Art Classes reviews
8The 8-week Intensive Drawing Classes is a comprehensive guide to drawing fundamentals. Not only do you learn theory, but technique as well, with individual assistance available. My drawing skills have improved exponentially as a result. Thank you Mark!
Mark is a very patient, humble, generous and experienced teacher. He is encouraging and generous with his knowledge. I enjoyed the classes, will come back and can recommend to any beginner.
I rate 5 stars for Brisbane Art Classes run by one of my favourite art teacher, Mark Feiler.
Mark has shown to me that art classes at the online setting are as instructive and fun as ones in the studio. I enjoy Mark's life drawing classes where we practice a lot of gesture drawing. The online setting makes it easy for us to repeat it. He is also knowledgeable of graphic software. It is fun to watch the screen where he demonstrates how we can improve our drawing and painting.
He is patient for students' developments and appreciates individuality. We are encouraged to set individual goals and work to achieve the goal at our own pace. I took his art classes because I wanted to learn about colour in oil painting. By using graphic software, he illustrated colour theory. It certainly helped me to understand the theory better. At last I made sense of why my colour pallet did not work!
Brisbane Art Classes run by Mark Feiler are the best I’ve been too. I had been trying to attend the studio sessions for years and when I finally had the chance COVID hit. Thankfully Mark developed the virtual classes which have been amazing and just the creative escape I needed. Mark gives loads of individual feedback and direction that’s easy to understand. The format of the classes are really well planned to make the most of the time and what can be achieved. I can’t believe how quickly it goes, how much we get down and cover technically. Hands down I’ve learnt more about art and technique in a short time with Mark than any other class I’ve been to. The classes are a lot of fun and Mark is very patient and encouraging. I couldn’t recommend Mark at Brisbane Art Classes more highly.
I did a short course online that explored the principles of figure drawing. It went for four weeks and in that time I became more passionate about learning to draw. I've always loved to draw but haven't been formally trained so my work has been very amatuer and self expressive. After 4 classes I feel more confident, more knowledgeable, and I feel like a better drawer. I now know how to practice to get even better. Thanks Mark!
The problem with other venues/ classes in Brisbane is that they want to make budding artists commit to 18 /20 week sessions at a time (for up to $1000-$1350 per unit), (this has to be paid upfront) or they hold weekend workshops (in the case of one venue) at costs up to $400 per day.
These are not a cost effective solution if you want to improve your drawing or painting. This format is better for that.
I have tried many teachers and Mark Feiler pays great attention to his students, patiently going over things.
UPDATE; Nov 2020
COVID 19 has changed our lives forever. Art classes are no longer in the studio but online.
Check website for possible options.
The reason i started having drawing lessons with Mark was to fill the holes in my drawing and painting knowledge. What has happened over time Mark has increased my appreciation of the finer qualities of drawing. Mark is very passionate about drawing and painting and this has rubbed off on me. I now have greater knowledge of drawing and painting to appreciate my drawing and start to draw with knowledge of anatomy and proportion. Proportion is one area that Mark has been very generous with his time to help me to develop better life drawings when i attending life drawing sessions.
Mark allows time to ensure I understand the drawing I am doing and how the drawing principles apply. He also adjusts his ways of teaching to meet individual needs. I have particularly appreciated this.
I have rated Mark a 5 because of his passion to ensure his students do the best they can and he works hard at helping his students achieve their artistic goals. It is Mark's depth of knowledge of drawing and painting that encourages me to explore how I can improve my art skills and knowledge. His teaching approach has increased my self confidence, and as a result my drive to continue to improve.
Firstly I was a teacher for thirty years so i know it when i see a good one.
I have tried many teachers.
It's been my observation that Mark Feiler pays great attention to his students, patiently going over things until the glimmer of recognition occurs. He does this in a variety of ways. Not everyone is suited to the same method.
I like how he does a quick easy to understand demo to bring home the point he is making.
No other teacher has done this in the same way.
The studio has access to many cast models for practice and a continually changing parade of other professional art work to be inspired by.
If you want to draw or paint and be taught by a teacher who is Julian Ashton Art School (Google it) trained, and who will do his best to bring out the artist in you, just try his classes.
Photo shows a standard student study of cast model in pencil- three sessions, and a still life study for a larger painting in oils (three sessions)
