I knew Mark when he was competing and have always been drawn to his relaxed and accessible teaching style. Great to see the AKA expanding into Coorparoo under his leadership.

Since day one my son has enjoyed and still enjoys attending lessons here. The Instructors are great and the atmosphere they create is welcoming and awesome.

AKA Coorparoo is the best! I have always wanted to learn a martial art but never got around to joining anywhere. Recently, I decided to have a seriously look around and that's when I came across Australian Karate Academy. They looked professional and had multiple class type options, from little kids right up to the adult classes for me which I liked. So, I signed up.

I'll admit, I was nervous going to my first class as I wasn't sure what to expect. I wasn't sure if I'd be fit enough, if they would be welcoming of a 30-something year old fairly uncoordinated new girl or if it would be a bit like a 'boys club' but it wasn't like that at all. From the moment I arrived I was welcomed warmly by everyone - from Sensei Mark and all the students. I was included as part of the group from the start and everyone was friendly and helpful. It is a really inclusive and fun environment. Although there is a great amount of respect for the sport and we are there to learn, train and grow - there is also a real sense of fun and enjoyment in the lessons, which I like. When they say you're part of the AKA family, they really mean it. It's a great group of people.

I have loved going to AKA and I'm glad I took that step to join up. I have so much fun, I look forward to every class and always drive home after with a big smile. Since going I have found myself becoming stronger, more confident and proud of myself too. I have seen myself accomplish things I never imagined I could, things I never would have if I hadn't joined. I'm looking forward to learning and accomplishing more going forward as well as making more new friends.

I enrolled my 5yo son here because it was convenient to my work, but WOW my son absolutely LOVES doing Karate now! He literally asks every day after school whether he has Karate today. The classes are age appropriate and the teachings and activities cater to their skill level and fun. I recommend starting a trial, but you will for sure continue on! Well done Mark Sensei.

Started with my son, great way to get kids off devices and do something energetic. Great way to get fit, no matter what you abilities. Friendly classes with good mix of women and men. Excellent location in central Coorparoo.

I have been a member of AKA Karate Coorparoo Dojo since late last year. I'm really glad that I came across the Facebook promotion and decided to give it a go. I have not looked back. I was looking for something to do in my spare time that would give me a greater level of fitness and fun while learning at the same time. Mark our Sensei is great. He really takes the time and effort into helping you develop your skills, giving you an opportunity to learn about this great art and it's traditions whilst gaining better fitness. I was really nervous when I first started but in the months that I have been here, my confidence has skyrocketed. I have managed to go from the beginner trial classes to now a yellow belt and the last of the beginner classes, and I am looking forward to my next belt grading into the intermediate classes. I'm having that much fun that I find myself now almost attending class 5 days a week. I am so glad I made the effort to try this. You should too. At less than $50 to try, and a free uniform, you have nothing to loose

Wow - where do I begin. My two sons (one of whom is an Asperger’s child) started Karate at AKA Coorparoo only a couple of months ago, and they absolutely love it.

They very rarely share the same interests when it comes to sport or physical activity due to their personality differences, but have supported each other through their Karate journey - it’s the first time they have ever done anything like this together as a team.

Their confidence has grown, they have set personal goals for themselves, and they absolutely love their AKA Sensei’ and team mates.

I can’t speak more highly of Sensei Mark, Sensei Cheyne, and the rest of the teachers at AKA Coorparoo and highly recommend getting your kids involved as the skills they learn are invaluable as part of their everyday life (respect, manners, fun, health and fitness).
