Atkinson Leigh DR

I attended Dr Atkinson for a Workers Compensation claim review in late 2017. I left that review completely and utterly disgusted. My answers to questions regarding my current condition/pain levels were dismissed. On several occasions Dr Atkinson provided his own answer to a question he had asked. Towards the end of my appointment Dr Atkinson asked “Do you know who Jonathon Thurston is? ”
I replied “Yes”. Dr Atkinson then stated “Well Jonathon Thurston would be sore after training but he would still show up for the game on the weekend”. When I asked the relevance of this comment Dr Atkinson simply stared at me without comment. Dr Atkinson later reported to my employer that I needed to exercise more and that I had reached maximum medical recovery and required no further medical treatment. My claim was subsequently closed. It is now Jul 2019 and I have spent thousands of dollars on medical treatment and continue to battle my employer with regards to my compensation claim.

Hi my name is Debbie, I was one of the lucky ones to have Dr Atkinson, as my doctor. He was great with me as a child I am an epileptic I haven't had a grand Mal seizures, since I was 8 but I had 1, small one when I had my appendix, out. I was 24 then. I also had my first child when I was 29 he weighted 10 pound 11 and a half big boy. He is 24 now. I also had twin daughter's they where there brothers weight together and their 18 next month. I also had a younger daughter, who weighed 9 pounds 7 and she's 17 yr old this yr. What I am saying is thank you for being my doctor and I am very lucky to be alive. In saying that I have been having mini seizures for a few yrs now and I was told this week that I had to look for work. Could you imagine me having mini seizures and working lol. Ok thank and God bless you for everything you have done for me.

Dr Rupert Leigh Atkinson Neurologist is one of the worst doctors I have ever had the displeasure to meet. He stated my chronic pain 8-9/10. My ROM finished by 30 percent. My grip 20 lower than the Opposite hand and because he is a Work Cover Patsy gave me a 0 PIR Rating. He also added to my PTSD by working outside his scope of practice. His Receptionist is equally deplorable stating " You are naughty for looking up his email, as we only go by Work Cover documents" Worst independent medical review and Dr ever. Disgusted. He measured my childhood scars, took my BP, made me face a wall. And his Report. O stars

In my opinion, this man is the rudest person I have ever met. I went to see him for treatment in relation to a car accident injury. He told me my problem was I was unable to communicate (despite having a degree in Communication). He accused my 9 year old twins of selling panadiene and ibuprofen to their friends at school, as well as my son in the military. He told me I was attractive and smart and better than those other loser out in the waiting room (he was referring to his patients as I was part of a group completing a pain and rehab program, following a significant car accident). I asked several times to stop labeling my fellow patients with inappropriate and unprofessional comments. This man needs to retire from medicine before he causes more damage. The only other female in the program was told by Dr Atkinson that she was too fat and let herself go, without realizing that she was unable to exercise since her injury and was honestly about 7 kg overweight. I questioned his methodology and challenged his thinking and obsession with children selling drugs. As a month of 5 boys, the only one he said was beyond reproach was my middle child who is in the same class as his Grandson.

He wanted to chop arm off and freeze joint at shoulder. I left and didn’t get it done. I found him rude and very self centred. I am so glad I never took his advise, as I have lived with it now for 37 years. He is just a money making machine.

Dr Leigh Atkinson saved my Dads life, Dad had a brain aneurysm at 56, he had to have a very complicated operation, thank goodness Dr Leigh Atkinson was on that night. Dad is 78 today and we owe those extra 22 years to this amazing Surgeon.

I wonder if the people accuse Dr. Leigh only because he didn't do what they wanted? Because in my experience he was everything opposite to what some of them saying here, was very polite, attentive and gave me best medical advice. Definitely would recomend

I saw Dr Atkinson at The Wesley Hospital pain clinic for a fair and honest review of my back and spine. Far from what I got. He was an arrogant, belligerent old fool who told me that I should get walking so I “don’t turn into a cauliflower” and I should get off all the medication and just take panadol! I’m sure I would love to do all this except my tethered spinal cord and Grade 2 slipped disc is causing me extreme pain! He was rude to my parents, who were simply asking what I should have if my pain becomes unbearable, belittling them and told them to stop pandering to me. He told me all the medication that the neurosurgeons from GCUH had prescribed were a waste of space, as was my chiropractor. He said they wouldn’t have seen many Spina Bifida cases down the coast and my chiropractor wouldn’t know what she was doing. At this point in the consultation I’d had enough of him cutting everything and everyone down and decided not to see him again. He was a waste of $300. I’m now seeing Dr Ian Thong at Persistent Pain at Robina who has a much nicer, perfect bedside manner. He doesn’t make me feel as if he doesn’t believe the pain I am in as this Dr Atkinson did. Dr Atkinson is RUDE RUDE RUDE! He needs to retire and try to enjoy life as he obviously doesn’t enjoy what he is doing.

Stay clear of the weasley back and pain programs. Full of ignorant liars and manipulators. No help what so ever, just about making money from insurance companies. Nothing but bad advice and atitudes.

My first neurosurgeon and he is an excellent doctor looked after me for years than dr reno rossato took over another top doctor trained by him

Doctor Atkinson please retire.we beg you! You are arogant and pompous and do not listen to what your patients are saying to you. You compare one patient's pain levels with anothers and as we know no one has the same pain. Give everyone a break and take a long one yourself.

Nothing seen him for independent reviews for work cover to go to pain clinic he runs at wesley disgusted with him didnt address what causes back pain. Than seen him for permanent impairment for back all he did was ask me to walk on toes walk on heel an bend forward. Disgusted. Stay clear if u want to be treated properly fairly.

Agree with others here, no bedside manner, insulting and out of touch with what he maybe used to be proficient with. Should be retired.
