Tiwi Design reviews
14 What an amazing trip I had on the SeaLink Ferry to Tiwi Islands.
I cannot recommend the tour with Tiwi Design highly enough.
Our guide Vivian was 'simply the best'. What a beautiful kind human being that shared his wonderful culture and stories with us.
And Alan also made us all feel very special.
I am so grateful that I had the opportunity to do this tour and to purchase the wood carvings I did.
I will always cherish them and the memories I have of the day.
Oh and the lunch was more than anyone in the group could expect - everyone said they through the lunch was amazing.
Get yourself on the Sealink Tiwi by Design tour for a memorable day out from Darwin - a look round the fascinating settlement of Nguiu in the company of a local, a good lunch, then screen print your very own t-shirt or tea towel to take home
Great culture and informative local tour guides, art & crafts for purchase and can try your hand at screen printing!
This was an art place on Bathurst Island where tourists could do some silk screen printing on a t-shirt or tea towel and take it home. You could also buy other things like lengths of material or earrings. If you're part of the tour you also get your lunch provided, commentary and a short display of dancing.
Beautiful designs and artworks that have a wonderful story about an age old culture and Traditions.
Had a fabulous day on Bathurst Island. Thanks to the guides who share their culture and knowledge. If you're up this way, a visit is a must.
Tiwi Design and the Tiwi By Design tour are fantastic! So friendly and chatty, we heard a lot of their stories and history, creating our own art and memories on the way. Well worth the visit for anyone wanting to experience another culture?
I think that too many people are trying to make a dollar here because the prices are just too high
Told me the artist whose work we wanted to purchased had died. At the time it seemed you be a cover up and later we found it was an outright lie
Do not trust this gallery
Fantastic variety of different artworks, from carving to pottery to painting. Artists are now back to using their iwn individual style which is making for different interpretations if subject matter. Redesign of gallery is great and flows nicely. More planned. Highly recommended.
We popped in at lunchtime. We tried to find out from a few different people what the price was for screen printing t-shirts and what designs they had. Very unhelpful. They offered little information. They didn't seem interested so we left.
Pleasant ferry ride. Do not sit under the air con.
Enjoyable welcoming ceremony.
Wear comfortable walking shoes.
Simple lunch but nice sandwiches. Instant tea and coffee available and cold water.
The ferry ride was long but passed by quickly. Met with a welcoming ceremony, explaining the unique culture of the islands. This was followed by damper and coffee.
The artists then shared their knowledge and then we got to do screen printing.
After a very filling lunch went for a walk through village to the 85 year old church and the museum before heading back to the mainland via the 2 hour ferry ride.
What Aboriginal community would be complete without camp dogs just chilling everywhere you go? I was pleased to spot a sleepy doggy while browsing the beautiful designs at this art centre.
