Outback Cycling Uluru reviews
34How good is it to ride around Uluṟu? ! What a highlight. Wish this had been on offer on past visits. Great bikes - so comfortable and easy. Highly recommended
We had such a wonderful time riding around Uluru in late May. Tom was great at fitting the bikes for our family and the kids had a blast in the toddler seat and ride along. So great to be active with young kids in tow. Thank you!
Welcome to outback cycling, what a great little business. Run by a lovely couple in the carpark of the cultural centre at Uluṟu.
Simple concept they hire bikes, as the name suggests, to ride around the rock.
A simple website, easy to access and book online.
The equipment located within easy access of the carpark and they have a wide selection of bikes available.
Safety equipment supplied and they are very informative about the bikes the the trail and best ways to enjoy the experience.
There are toilets close by and places to sit and eat.
The equipment is very well maintained and the owners are open and friendly making the whole experience wonderful and worthwhile
Truly a mum and dad business to support.
The ride around Uluṟu is flat and the track easy to negotiate
Book early to get the times you need,
Tried to book this using details from the brochure, but was treated terribly. Overheard others say the same. Even the bus company offering the transfers said the guy was rude and unhelpful and my experience was unsurprising. Would have given zero stars if I could.
Best way to experience Uluru. Started at 7am and would not have wanted to do it any later in the day. Infant seat available with helmets. Great staff member who was incredible and friendly. Took safety seriously and ensured our toddler’s helmet (1yr old) was the correct size and fit and made sure our bikes were a good fit for us as well. Would highly recommend and probably do again if we ever return to uluru.
Amazing experience, unlike any ride. Carry lots of water, drink often, and be prepared for something astonishing.
Friendly service and a bike perfectly suited to the terrain. Awesome views of Uluru all the way round. Take plenty of water!
Fairly disorganized. Everyone is booked to turn up at the same time so is chaotic. Bikes are fairly basic.
Amazing experience, biking around Uluru is the way to go! But definitely book online because we came one afternoon and they were gone already and had to stay another day. Bikes are not great but they do the job.
We spoke to the nice guy at OC the day before and he recommended the 7am time slot as it was the least busy time and he was certainly right!
There were only 6 of us booked so we got to experience the beauty of Uluṟu without lots and lots of people
The Uluṟu base walk is 10.6km so hiring a bicycle is a great option (there’s an extra 4km return cycle from the Cultural Centre to the start of the base).
By the time we returned our bikes at 9.30am there were heaps of people on the base walk and a line up at Outback Cycling so we were glad we took the advice and did the 7am cycle.
Note: we recommend booking online.
Had a great time. Fantastic way to do a lap of the rock.great to go at your own pace, explore some of the walking tracks along the way.
The best pre hire bike brief ever, Al was super informative and passionately spoke about respect for uluru. Rode around this temple 11klm and had a blast. Great experience $60.
Epic way to see the rock at your own pace. Staff are friendly and bikes are reasonably good condition.
Bike riding around the Ulluru was an absolutely fun experience for our family. I took a tag along for my 3 years old and it was great fun. Ride is roughly 10.5km and there is a 4km ride back to outback cycling, total of 15kms. Loved it and would highly recommend if you cannot do the 10k walk.
Really enjoyed our 3 hour ride around the base of Uluru. Josh set us up with a couple of comfortable bikes. And gave us instructions where to go to start the ride.
The track is flat and easy except for a few short sandy sections. It's probably best to book ahead.
Great way to see the Rock. Comfortable Cruiser bikes and the track is absolutely flat, so an easy 2-3hr ride stopping along the way.
Good bikes and worth the effort as the back of the rock is surprisingly green and cool. Definitely recommend this activity
Overall, cycling around Uluṟu is an amazing experience. It takes about 2.5 hours if we are going at a leisurely pace. You then have time to explore the cultural centre and grab something to eat.
A few things to take note of before booking:
- We booked the experience with transfers from Ayer’s Rock Resort. Outback cycling use Hop on Hop Off Bus as their service provider.
If you’d like to, you can book this service separately and get off at the Cultural Centre. You can then hire the bikes (3 hours time slot) at a time that suits you.
- Bikes are not great quality. Gears are terrible, helmet are all broken and they use back pedals. Check your bike before you take off, as I had to go back due to faulty breaks.
I would recommend the service, but quality of the bikes needs to improve!
Perfect way to see uluru. 15km around for $50 and took us 2 hours. The hire is for 3 hours so plenty of time. We loved it
Probably one of the worst cycling events I have done, scenery was spectacular, spoiled by poorly serviced bikes, unable to adjust to suit size with most bikes also having monkey brakes. My butt is sore!
