MOM Darwin YHA

Location is great and staff very friendly and helpful. Quite clean as well. The issues I had were the rooms were so cold at night that I had to wear full extra layers and I developed a cough from breathing in the cold air. Great that there is air conditioning but it’s extreme. I stayed in a dorm and it had lots of small cockroaches under the beds that would climb onto the walls which wasn’t nice. None of the female showers that I used while staying had any hot water. Didn’t really mind this as it was so hot outside but something to note if you’re booking here.

When I arrived to check in I had a very warm friendly welcome from kayleigh. She was so helpful with everything and was always willing to go out of her way to help you. Couldn't fault a thing, the customer service was outstanding! Really enjoyed my stay with moms hostel would definitely recommend as its a great location on Mitchell st with walking distance to shops bars & restaurants.

I stayed here whole week and they party and loud music all every single night.

WOW! Is all I can say.
This is the best most funnest place I have ever stayed in my entire life. From the croc tail lurking in reception to the full sized one by the pool.you are provided with the WHOLE NT EXPERIENCE!
Close proximity to everything located in the heart of Darwin.
Cheap drinks and 2 pools to cool off in the heat.
The reception staff are so friendly and accommodating, not the mention the hard working housekeepers.

Overall I would rate this hostel 10/10, definitely better than the other ones in Darwin.

Party hostel, got a pool and cheap bar

Good aircon in the rooms, keeps it around 21 degrees. Big lockers for your stuff. Floors are cleaned regularly. Sheets and mattress are thin. You'll want to block out noise and light.

As always with a hostel, kitchen gets crowded around dinner, but empty rest of the day.

$5 for laundry

Happy with my stay

This was one of the worst hostel I’ve ever stayed. Especially the staff was the worst.
I have stayed here several times and each time I have had some trouble. After staying last time, I received an email with a receipt that I don’t know, so I called to apply for a refund. She said she would call me back by tomorrow, but I didn't get a call. Then I called again and they said would refund to me, but nothing was transferredto my bank. About 2 weeks later, when I stayed again, I talked to them again, and he said he is going to refund, but it was not transferred even after a week. I spoke again and finally got the refund but the amount was wrong so I complained but the manager shouted and said "I'm not interested in so little money". Also, when I made a reservation for a week's stay, there was a change in my work schedule, so I contacted them to ask for a reservation change, but they told me that they couldn't change the reservation because they were fully booked for 3 days out of the week. When I checked online, there were vacancies for the 3rd day, so I made a new reservation online, but even though I contacted them, my previous reservation was canceled without permission and I couldn't stay. I will never come back here again.

Sadly I’m not under 25 anymore, otherwise I’d have enjoyed this party hostel. Now I’m interested in crazy things like cleanliness and sleeping at night.

Maybe it is a good hostel for backpackers but it is not cheap except maybe in the dorms. One thin sheet, 2 towels, noisy aircon. Left luggage room flooded when I was there.

Start off with the good: clean beds, seemed pretty secure, lots of events going on, nice kitchen with plenty of space.

The bad: they had a DJ on blasting music over the entirety of the social area for both days I was there. Granted it was a bank holiday weekend but that meant that the only place to escape throbbing music was in the bedroom which is where I really didn't fancy spending the day. Would have really appreciated some clarity over this being a party hostel. Understandably people want a good time now and then but not everyone.

I stay at YHAs across Australia because I expect them to be quite and clean. This is not one of those places and doesn't deserve to wear the YHA badge. It's a party hostel so if you expect to sleep, good luck. The music may stop at 11p but the club's next door keep going almost all night. The room has just enough space to walk between the beds and feels like your just crammed in. I won't be staying here again

The goal of this hostel is to party hard: thumping music literally 7 days a week until 11pm at the earliest (seriously, i checked in on a Tuesday and the bass carried to every single room in the hostel). If you are 18 to 21 years old and that’s what you want, this hostel is great for it.

For everything else, it is just NOT good. There is no common area other than the area right by the bar/music, so do not expect to be able to sit anywhere comfortable and read a book/watch a movie/calmly talk to anyone. Also, the place is filthy. Bathroom smelled like a barn, kitchen was pretty nasty by the evening each day, rooms were dirty and smelly. The shower doors had gaps so wide that I could make eye contact with people walking by hahahah. Also, NO RECYCLING BINS? What the hell? Is this the 1970s? Unless I completely missed it somehow, I could not find a single recycling bin, so I had to throw away glass, tin cans, etc.

The budget accommodation scene in Darwin is pretty grim, as I doubt the other hostels on Mitchell street are much quieter, and there really are no other options.

The staff at MOM however were great, and did their best. Very helpful and accommodating.

Friendly helpful staff, great location & atmosphere with pool/bar. Cleaners try to keep hostel as clean as possible but understandable it can’t be like that 24/7 with the large capacity they have. I’ll definitely be returning to Mom Darwin at some stage!

Best hostel in darwin! Staff were excellent, if you had any troubles they would always try their best to help you. Chill area outside is so spacious and not one but two pools to enjoy the sun. Kitchen has plenty of stoves and plenty of fridge space so you don’t have to waste your money eating out all the time. Would definitely recommend this hostel if you are visiting darwin for a brief spell or even staying long term. Oh it also has its own bar too!

What can i say? Is like we pay to clean up. Nobody clean the rooms, they just collect the rubbish. First time that i’ve been in a hostel where THEY DON’T CLEAN THE ROOMS! They don’t even mop once a week. Toilets are dirty almost all day. In the kitchen there’s not knives so bring yours if u wanna cook hey.

I've stayed here twice now in the last 6 months. Once for a short holiday for Car Cox and 2nd time living for 6 weeks. The owner Strat is amazing and would honestly do anything to accommodate for his guests. If you're coming during dry season expect there to be parties in the common area. I mean it is literally ON Mitchell Street. Cutlery and placeware can we be purchased for a refundable deposit (for covid safe hygiene and not having 400 people leaving dirty dishes and cutlery everywhere) The kitchen is small yeah, I just managed my time and went during less busy times to prep but there's always room for improvement and Im looking forward to coming back next year to see what the team have worked on to make it even better!
Designated long term rooms or a wing would be ideal for those living and working who don't want to be in a mixed dorm with people on holiday. Bar is great, pool, excellent Wi-Fi and the designated "work room" for those working from home is so thoughtful! Overall Strat, Abi and the team will go above and beyond to make your stay here one to remember. If you're looking for a more relaxed stay. Perhaps don't stay on Mitchell Street surrounded by clubs and bars? Loved it here, will be back next dry for sure!

Had the BEST time at MOMs. The staff are amazing, the rooms are comfortable and the location is perfect. The hostel has a real vibe and everyone who stays there is so friendly. Definitely recommend if you want to meet new people and have a good time.

Love love love, such a great hostel. If you enjoy a bit of fun and party this is the place to be. Perfect location, great bar and pool, with lots of fun DJs and entertainment on certain nights. Staff are excellent, so friendly and helpful. Strat is amazing and will ensure you have a great stay. Cleaners do the best they can with such a large hostel. Would recommend if staying long term to ask for long term room. I stayed here over 4 months and loved it. Great way to meet great people. Can’t wait to return

Had the best time at MOM’s all the staff were amazing so friendly and made it feel like home rather than a hostel! Had so much fun from the parties to the chilled out days, lovely clean environment and would recommend anyone to stay there can’t wait to go back next year!
