Mamukala Wetlands reviews
20 Lovely little walk to the wetlands.
Wasn't too many birds about but did see a Hawks nest near the path.
Great observation deck to watch the birdlife. The walk seemed too far from the water to be very interesting.
There is a bird viewing hut just a short walk from the parking lot, where you can see many wild birds up close. It's surprising that you can see so many different types at once, but it's also surprising that the types you see are completely different depending on the season. There is a simple explanation board. Especially if you come early in the morning, you will be overwhelmed by their numbers and their voices. I always stop by when I come to Kakadu.
Ok place for a bid bird watchers as the hide is awesome. The supposedly scenic circuit walk is a waste of time and NOT scenic. Better stay at the hide.
We just visited the observation hut which was thankfully very shady and large enough to hold plenty of people despite us being the only ones there. One free set of binoculars provided helps, bring your own if you have them. Lots of birds near the viewing area, not hugely active late in the morning but interesting nonetheless. Probably more activity at dawn or dusk. There's one drop toilet near the car park.
Short little walk from carpark to the bird 'hide' viewing area, which was quiet large, you would be able to fit a busloads of tourists in. Informative panels on back wall, however not as much bird life (lots of lillies and reeds) as we saw down at Shady Camp, thay also had a viewing platform (more open), and the wildlife there was amazing. Croc's, birds ducks, geese, finches, Wallabies, fish and Cows!
A beautiful and well-designed viewing platform makes it a very enjoyable visit. Lots of information is provided in relation to the wetlands and its inhabitants, and a few benches ensure enough time to sit down and soak it all in. The no-coin-needed binoculars are much appreciated.
Beautiful and peaceful. There were lots of birds, lizards and crocs to spot. Well worth the short detour and walk!
One of the highlights of a big NT trip. We saw two crocs, heaps of birds and some lizards. Great viewing station and a lovely spot to stop. It was 38 degree when we went so we skipped the walk around the wetlands, but it was nice and shaded in the viewing area.
What coming to Kakadu is all about. Magnificently positioned viewing verandah and an easy 2.7km walk along the wetlands. No, no crocodiles crossed our path.
Very peaceful and beautiful. We can hear the beautiful birds chipping, and if lucky enough we can see Jabiru bird from very close distance
The wetlands bird hide was worth it. We visited at the end of June. The walk was not worth the 3 or so km. Just a walk through shrubs and bushland. It might be nicer earlier in the early dry season.
Great place to see birds. This place is about 30 kilometres before Jabiru on right hand side on Arnhem Highway. Got public toilet. You can see the wetland a d birds from the platform
Great for bird watching. Large bird hide here. We sat and had packed lunch here while watching the abundant bird life.
A natural water wonderland but unfortunately we visited in the heat of the day and the birdlife was sparse without the use of the telescope
So beautiful. The viewing platform is just a quick minute walk from the parking lot. Could have spent hrs there just looking at the birds and wetlands view. Unfortunately only able to stay half an hr and didn't have time to go on the walks unfortunately.
Stunning vantage point to relax (and bird watch of that's your thing).
I felt so calm here. There's a great infographic on the wall that explains the seasons, what animals are around and how the traditional people used the land throughout the year.
There's also a nice flat loop walk you can do.
Just opened up again after the big wet. Great place to look at plants and birds as well as wildlife from a great bird hide.
Unique wetlands with beautiful billabong with great bird and plant life. Has a great bird hide so you can see and not scare the wildlife away.
Not much to do there. Perhaps spot a bird or two if lucky. Flies & mozzies will eat you alive.
