Stayed there in August this year 2022. Great place! Loved the host Des (true bushy) and loved his Johnny cakes. We didn’t have kids with us but all the kids that were there looked like they were having a great time especially with the animals. We didn’t have the camp fire dinner only because we already had food we had to eat but it looked and smelt delicious. Would definitely go back.

We had a wonderful time at Little Roper Stock Camp. From the moment we met Des we felt welcomed. We really appreciated the time Des took not only walking us around the park when we arrived, but also the assistance he gave by providing us equipment to assist us in our search when we lost a very special ring in Bitter Springs. The amenities were beautiful and clean and we loved the additional experiences on offer- from patting the pet cattle and Buffalo, witnessing the snake and reptile handling (we loved watching all the children enjoying themselves) and sitting around the campfire with Billy tea (Johnny cakes too!) We were also lucky enough to be there on curry night and the food was incredible!

Our kids loved the experience of Little Roper Stockcamp. Johnny cakes ($2each) for breakfast with Billy tea, patting various reptiles (pythons, blue tongue lizards, baby turtles) and bunnies. The haystack playground complete with moveable slides and a rope swing. We did the stock man's dinner ($40pp) for the adults and tried the 'bush oysters' cooked traditional style on the shovel over coals. The kids were invited for dessert and got to participate in the squirrel glider feeding. Well situated to be a short drive into town and both thermal springs.

I have never felt less welcome than at the Little Roper Stock Camp. The service was non existent both in person and over the phone. Although eventually meeting up with Des several hours later it became apparent that he had no time for me.

In the morning their was unsupervised reptile handling. I witnessed lots of children dropping and squeezing the animals and showed several of them how turtles and snakes should be handled. (I have a reptile business in Melbourne). Apparently a small crocodile had died months earlier after being dropped.

I had asked fellow campers about walks in the area and how to get to the thermal springs. I learnt that others had been given maps and instructions and I managed to get terribly lost without them.

I had planned on staying 2 or more nights but left the following morning after finally finding someone to take my payment. Following this my travelling companion was asked to pay for me as they were having to leave the office again. No refund was offered for the double payment and no apologies received.

Not a place I would recommend.

Was made welcome and involved.
Had a dinner one night.
Next night we prepared 2 different desert Dampier's.
We all enjoyed the time around the fire.
Thanks Des.

Enjoyed our stay here. Loved the Johnny Cakes and Billy tea for breakfast. Close to both Thermal springs and town. Unpowered sites are big and relaxed. The rooster is a tad noisy in the mornings.

Absolutely loved our 2 nights here! Very laid back, family friendly camp ground with lots of animals. At 9am, kids can hold snakes, rabbits, lizards, turtles & feed the buffalo, cows, chickens & pigs.
Don't miss the 8am Jonny cakes either, absolutely delicious & a great way to meet other travelling families sitting around the long table eating breakfast together.
No bookings at the moment, get in early & wait for reception to open at around 10. Usually a bit of a line up during high season, but you can jump out & the kids can play while you wait.
Easy access to Mataranka homestead for the whip show & thermal pools, plus Bitter Springs is very close by as well.
Highly recommend!

Des is a terrific host. It's different and full of the character of the Outback. Great place for kids.

Best place to stay, super friendly and well look after. The unpowered sites are shady and private.

An amazing experience for adults and children alike. Des cooks us breakfast Johnny cakes at $1.50 each were yum with all kinds of spreads, and free tea brewed in a billy. Des also cooks up dinners some nights for everyone. We all had the choice of holding snakes of all sizes including King Karl who is a giant. The showers were great. There were water buffalos and a pig and one crocodile (a baby one) that you can hold as well. Feeding of the possums at 7.30pm where you can hand feed the sugar glider possums. It was great watching the kids with the reptiles and playing in the haystacks together. Everynight the big kitchen campfire burned and we would all sit around and share stories etc. I loved this place so much my one night there turned into 5 nights. Best place to have an amazing time. Never boring. Thank you so much Des for your wonderful hospitality. Everybody raved about you.

Great place to stop for a couple of days, you won't find two more welcoming people than Des & Telko. Close to the hot Springs and Telkos jonny cakes are great for breakfast. Clean hot showers and toilets and great for kids to get to know the animals and reptiles that Des let's them hold and feed. Not a bad word to say, just a great experience.

Mataranka Little Roper Stock Camp is the best place to stay with children. Shady camp sides, powered and unpowered. Lots of fire places, clean toilets and showers. Reptiles and other animals, my kids had fun. Everything is easy going. Next time we come to Mataranka we will bring the bicycles.

Excellant place to stop.
If you have kids they would love it. The owner works hard at making it a very social place for people that stay there.

We stayed here for 3 nights very peaceful and a great spot for seeing the hot springs only a short distance away. Clean ammenities and a lot of activities available at the camp. Just one disappointment was the drunk grey nomad Nextdoor complaining about everything, to the grey nomads travelling out there if you cannot be happy while on your travels stay at home!
