Kings Canyon Rim Walk reviews
30Theoretically, if it gets hot, it's open until 9am so you can start walking. But it was already closed before 9 a.m. When we arrived.
My friend and I undertook the rim walk and absolutely enjoyed the whole experience. Glenn was an amazing tour guide who was extremely knowledgeable about the area and surroundings. He definitely enriched our experience that much more. For those considering this tour all I can say is that you will not be disappointed.
An absolute beauty.
If it's hot, start early. Not only do you beat the heat but the rangers shut the different parts of the walk on hot days as the day progresses
This place is awesome, make sure your not gonna have a heart attack and are fit to climb the stairs up and don’t look back if you suffer from height issues. Once you get up top the walk gets easier and more n more spectacular. I booked a guide and it was just us too so I was lucky to have him all to myself so got custom knowledge shared about foods n medicines n drugs. We did it in 2.5 hrs and started at 6am best time of the day! Highly recommend you do all the walks if you can and stay at the caravan park at Kings Canyon because they have an excellent menu and wicked vegetarian gluten free pizza
Great walk with some stunning views of the surrounding area. Steep 500 step climb to the top of the rim, but well worth it. We started in pitch dark early in the morning and arrived at the top in time to enjoy a beautiful sunrise.
Bring plenty of water and some snacks. Wear closed and comfortable footwear, bring a fly net and don't forget to use sunscreen.
If you plan to add a trip to the Garden of Eden, allow an extra 30 minutes.
The trip takes 3-4 hours and requires a certain level of fitness as the steps up are challenging.
The AAT Kings tour and walk was incredible
fabulous guide Wills
Highly recommended walk! Need to be able to climb steeply at the beginning though! Poles useful and lots of water on board too
Going up for sunrise is the best way you can do the walk. It's not to hot and wachting the sun rising behind the red cliffs is something different!
Wow! Kings Canyon is awesome. We chose to do the 6km loop which starts with 500 stairs and there's still plenty more up and down to do but the views are totally worth it!
There is an extra lookout and garden of Eden which are both 600m detours so all up, I tracked it as 7.5km for it.
The hotel/caravan park up the road is a great place to stay and has fuel and a great bar and bistro.
Make the time and check the conditions, this is a spectacular walk that should not be missed.
Very intense elevation game at the start but levels out soon after. As with other walks in Central Australia, during the hotter months it'll close if temps exceed 35c / by 11am, so get in early. During winter it was perfect, just take water and some snacks. No bathrooms on the walk, need to go at the carpark.
Panoramic views of the canyon but also great views of the surround landscape. If you start by going the south route (reverse) you will hit a one way door that won't let you go any further so go the Northern route!
You are a fool if you don't do the Rim Walk. There is a few stairs at the start to get to height but after that it's plain sailing. Sooo beautiful. I was lucky, when I did it, I didn't see a single other person. Blue markers are easy to follow and some of the views are spectacular. Keep an eye out for snakes
My boyfriend just jumped of the canyon because i was cheating on him.but actually it was pretty cool
400 million year old sand dunes packed into sand stone. Easy walk with 100m elevation, 6km loop.
Really worth it! The walk does not take 4 hours, only when you take a lot of (long) rests. This was the most beautiful thing we did in the outback. I liked it even more than Uluru.
Our sore knees love us for doing this. The rim walk is tough and the sun will make it much more difficult. We carried like 2 litters of water each and we drank all of it. The view from the top is breathtaking. The it gets very tricky to hike.
What a trek! 6km of outstanding scenery! A big climb but so worth it! We had 4 boys with us - eldest was 10, youngest was 4 and they enjoyed the adventure of climbing the rocks and looking over the cliff edges. It was hot, 36 degrees at the end of our 3 hour trek but we took heaps of water and snacks! The walk closes at 9am to ensure everyone is back before the hottest part of the day. The Garden if Eden is a lovely spot to have a swim and refresh before the second half of the trek.
Don't let anyone tell you it is flat once you get to the top but it was really worth it if you take your time climbing the first time
The highlight of our NT trip! This was such a fun landscape to explore.
The steps at the start might look intimidating, but they're over quickly and then you're in a primarily flat rim with fantastic views. There's a small elevation change when you dip down to the Garden of Eden, but it's worth it.
I didn't have much time to do this walk so I ended up jogging a lot of it, finishing in 1hr 40 minutes. I would love to come here and spend more time.
Thouroughly enjoyed this walk. The stairs at the start are steep and certainly get the heart rate going, though there are some spectacular view of colourful sheer rock cliff faces and views as far as your eyes can see from the top.
Excellent and well marked treck of three to four hours
Better visiting conditions in winter as heat restrictions may limit the access during the other seasons
A wonderful view but this walk is not for people who are not experienced walkers. There are 500 (steep) stairs to start with. After that there are a lot of rocks which you need to either climb up or climb down so you need to be steady on your feet and reasonably fit to do this walk. The Canyon is beautiful and well worth it if you are fit enough to do this walk.
