Karu Lookout reviews
39This valley, which is not a desert and is home to many plants and creatures, offers the best experience.
Beautiful views of both Kata Tjuta and Uluru. Lovely and quiet when we were there.beautiful wild flowers too.
We completed two walks during our daytime trip to Kata Tjuta; Karu Lookout, Valley of the Winds, and Walpa Gorge.
For several reasons, we chose not to venture beyond Karu Lookout, but saw several others continue on. The walk was pleasant and over a well paved track for much of the way.
It’s not the most easiest track as it’s full of loose rocks in places or uneven surfaces however the lookout over the valley is so beautiful. It feels as if it’s a scene from a movie. I feel it’s more picturesque than Uluṟu although it’s quite out the way.
It's a huge rocky mountain, but it looks like the pebbles are made of red mud. Hiking shoes are essential because I have to walk on a rocky field. I went to wear general shoes and my ankles and toes hurt so much.ha ha ha
It's April 2nd and the flies are sticking to it, but not enough to market it.
Slightly more challenging than the Uluru base walk. There are a lot of pebbles and stones on the path so hiking shoes are highly recommended. The walk was a bit hilly where you have to climb up and down huge sloping rocks. I can imagine after rain, it can get very slippery.
Beautiful walk with rewarding views. It's marked as 'difficult', but we found this walk to be quite easy, with very few steep uphill sections. We stopped a lot to take photos and did the walk in about 2.5hrs. Hiking boots are best to use as the path is quite rocky. Also, we did the hike anticlockwise (like the signs said) but I think the views would probably be a bit better clockwise (though fantastic either way!).
Great short walk with spectacular views up close of the beautiful rock formations of Jata Juta.
It's an easy trek on a gravel track with a gradual incline. About twenty minutes one way. Some amazing sights along the way depending on the time and light. We were fortunate to see a lot of wild flowers in bloom. There isn't any shade along the track so be sure to wear a hat and carry water. Ofcourse, keep a fly net handy anywhere in the Outback. We were wearing trekking boots, but some in their flip flops were enjoying themselves as well. Though the sights were great, we somehow liked the Walpa gorge walk better than this one.
Money could be spent here to make it a way better experience shelters for shade, raised walking platform like most NPs have now! Spend some of the money in the bank!
We only went as far as the first lookout. Good walk with a few rough spots but not difficult for the person of average fitness. Some nice scenery along the way and at the end. Not spectacular, but worth while. 1 hours walk to the first lookout and back. I, ve been told it is better scenery further on. All good Jim
Medium sized rocks on the ground so very tough terrain for a pram. First lookout is about 1.5km in so disable to carry a bub. Worth a look! Picnic area (sunset view spot 1km back up the drive) has toilets and a place to sit for lunch.
Good view but there was the heaps of flies. With normal shoes it hurts your feet when your walking on the rock path.
A beautiful hike. Always had something beautiful to look at. Not too difficult, many birds around. It can get hot so bring water and wear good shoes.
Great place to walk through take lots of water and really only one small steep little part where it is slope. Lots of interesting geology. Didn't see any animals. Some of the track was a bit overgrown with grass due to less tourists I reckon. We did the whole loop and the second part is easier than the first part. There are three water spouts along the way. One at the and two along the way.
Don't miss it.
Grade 4 walk for a reason. Take the alternate walk option if you are not a walker or you will have difficulty climbing.
Amazing hike and worth the effort! A couple of water refill sites along the way which is necessary even on cloudy days. Lots of flies though, so take a net if you have one!
Definitely visit if you are visiting Uluru. But start the walk early and take water. We did the walk in 2 hours.
We have been here in January, 45°C air temprature! We walked only 1km into the Wind Valley, amazing colour planying of the nature, highly recommended, should come again!
The full walk 7.6km can be done in 2.5 hrs. Not great for little kids. Very picturesque. Go early to avoid heat.
