John Flynn's Grave Historical Reserve reviews
13Grave of the Founder of the Royal Flying Doctor Service - just outside Alice Springs. Very tastefully done.
Amazing site of our outback history. The resting place of John Flynn’s ashes, and a story about the sacred rock that sits above him. Not going to spoil it, get out and have a look
Mountain looks beautiful and Flynn's story interesting. I was keen to do the walk but it is closed.
Great spot to visit and good view of Mt Gillen for sunsets.
There are also some great nearby walks.
Grave site of John Flynn, founder of the RFDS. Interesting story regarding the exchange of the original memorial stone which was a sacred stone from Karlu Karlu.
Just a rock and mountain to look at
A lot of history to read about
Worth the stop
Interesting place about the story of the stones and how they were swapped. He did do a lot for the Outback people and started the Royal Flying Doctor Service.
Interesting reading about a man that didso much for the outback. The Flying Doctor service and School of the air just to name 2.
A very historical place of a legend of a man. It's a shame that there is so much broken glass all around the site. I thought the council would be more vigilant in keeping the place safe.
I like the location. I can't believe how arrogant the original builders were when they stole a rock from the Devil's Marbles. Nor can I believe how long it took to undo the desecration.
Meaningful experience, especially accompanied by a talk from out guide Gavin. I thought it interesting that he made no mention of Flynn's wife whose ashes are also there. What emerged from his comments was the enormiry of the area Flying Doctors service. The g4ound approaching the gracesite is gravely, but packed.
Great hike, located 10 mins out of alice springs, this hike wasn't on the top ten places however it was definitely worth it. No cost, medium to hard physical difficulty. There are some parts where there are loose rocks but for the most part it was an easy walk. We went for sunrise, it took us just under an hour to climb and we are active people. Looking at about an hour up and 40 minutes down.
To get to the hike the road is paved and there is a small car park, when looking at the starting photo you just head right and follow the path, it seems like it takes you out of the way but it takes you to a narrow path where you do have to climb a little bit but it isn't too challenging. Bring lots of water, old runners or hiking boots and a torch or your phone light is sufficient. We had two other groups with us while we were hiking.
Resting area of the great John Flynn. Many memorials along the Sturt Highway are dedicated to John Flynn, however this is where his ashes are. The original rock was from the devil's marble's area, however was replaced with this "replica". A great spot for a great pioneer of the out back.
