Jila Arts reviews
16Thanks Sam. Great supporter of our school offering discounted paintings to be used for fundraising supporting Purple House. Really appreciate your assistance.
Really friendly service and great selection of art. We looked all through Alice and eventually came back to Jila to purchase our piece for our home.
What a way to spend a beautiful day in Alice Springs and to be treated to exceptional service; by Samantha and Mandy; at the JILA
Indigenous Art store in Alice Springs.
Both staff displayed a sincere dedication to looking after me and were immensely helpful throughout the whole Art selection process.
I would highly recommend a visit to this simply sensational store, to anyone looking to purchase a genuine and authentic piece of Indigenous Australian Art work that will be spectacular in any home.
The extremely professional, honest and knowledgeable staff members; are always friendly and willing to help you. A simply, memorable experience and exquisite art works at JILA Alice Springs.
Our family had a fabulous experience at JilaArts today.
Mandy was knowledgeable and very helpful.
We loved the quality linen used for paintings.
We’ll be back!
To those looking to purchase quality art at competitive prices, check out this place as you won’t find better.
Disappointing to read negative reviews that aren’t disrespectful and not deserved.
Keep up the great work Mandy and co!
Just had the most uncomfortable experience in this gallery.
I asked the owner if she was part of the aboriginal art code, which she is not.
I then inquired what the commission is she pays the artists. I received a lengthy aggressive rant in reply in which the owner went on and on about how tourists do not understand that the gallery feeds the artists and provides them with art supplies. She suggested that this costs the gallery a great deal of money. She then said that if the artists do not like their payment they would not come back.
This very deflective answer just made me wonder even more how much the artists actually get paid and what other arrangements have been made. And whether or not these arrangements are fair.
I would advise against buying from a gallery that shows very little transparency in what the actual collaboration with the artists is.
Jila Arts has the most amazing collection of Indigenous Art for sale from small artworks too very large ones. We couldn’t decide which one too choose so we asked Samantha for advice and we ended up purchasing the one we kept going back too. Samantha’s knowledge of Indigenous Art is amazing. We asked Samantha if she would mind posting it and lo and behold our daughter phoned too say it had been delivered, that was 2 days from Alice Springs too Shellharbour NSW. Thank you so much Samantha.
Jila Art is a highlight of a visit to Alice Springs - the art on display is amongst best one could see - even if not buying, it is inspiring just to browse - the presentation of Yannima Tommy Watson art is breathtaking - very efficient delivery of purchases to Melbourne (only 5 days, including Easter weekend) - a must visit.
I have been looking for an Aboriginal piece for a while now and each time there was always somethings wrong, like the size, hard to tell over the internet etc. Samantha was so helpful. She face timed me and made the whole thing so much easier and streamlined. I don't think I would have finally been able to buy my painting had she not been so proactive and made everything less stressful. I highly recommend contacting Samantha if you are interested in aboriginal art even in these restrictive times. Di
Mandy is a kind, informative, friendly person with a deep knowledge of Aboriginal art and the artists. Would highly recommend a visit to this gallery.

Samantha was very helpful and friendly. She was also able to explain a lot about the art, which was very interesting. We ended up buying a beautiful painting there; which she shipped to the Netherlands for us. It only took about 1.5 weeks to arrive, and it was in great condition. Would definitely recommend!
What a remarkable family business. They were all unique personalities but all so helpful. They care about their artists and community. Thank you for being so patient as I decided on the right piece. Your input Sam was priceless and it looks spectacular on my wall.
We first visited Jila Arts 7 days ago but, while we saw a painting we liked, it was only our first day in the region so we did not purchase. But we were impressed by what we were told was the set up: authentic Aboriginal artists working in a workshop with quality canvases & acrylic paints. We returned yesterday and the friendly proprietor remembered that we had been in previously. She helped us find the painting we had liked (it wasn't immediately visible but we knew where it had been), and showed us two similar options (explaining the symbolism in each). We stayed with our first choice and were assured it could be stretched onto a wooden frame and be ready for us later in the day. We had time on our side, said there wasn't the rush and we could easily pick it up tomorrow. We have now done that, it is safely packed in bubble wrap, hooks included (but not attached yet so as not to be damaged in flight) and complete with an authenticity & information certificate. Thank you, Jila Arts for your helpfulness and great friendly service!
Just received a beautiful painting done by aboriginal artist " Elton Wirri" from this gallery. It is even more beautiful in person! The colors are vibrant and stunning!
Samantha was very helpful in keeping me informed as to when it was shipped and tracking information. It was packaged expertly and arrived from Australia in perfect condition. Thank you!
Would highly recommend any artwork from this gallery and hope to purchase more in the near future!
Wonderful galleries with dedicated and knowledgeable staff. Great variety all round in terms of styles, regions, sizes and prices. The high quality materials used are a testament to the respect of the artists.
I will be back in Alice Springs next month and look forward to seeing some galleries while I’m there.
I won’t be returning g to this gallery after my last trip! The woman at this gallery had atrocious customer service and spent more time running down other galleries in the mall than talking about ‘her artists’ as she put it. She also advised me NOT to buy art from the artists on the town lawns as their canvas is ‘dirty’
I ended up buying a beautiful medicine leaf painting on the lawns and would rather go back there than to Jila. Buyer beware
We wandered through lots of places selling aboriginal art, most of it mass produced for tourists. This was the only place were the artists and the art was treated like art. The lady (owner I think?) who was in the shop is VERY knowledgable about local artisist, how the art is produced and she talks to abhorigibnal art in the language of an art reviewer. She really knows here stuff. If I was going to buy significant (not tourist) Australian aboriginal art from anywhere in Australia I would start with her.
