Ilparpa Swamp Wildlife Protected Area reviews
8 We drove there in an impromptu picnic sunset idea with friends which was quite a nice way to spend the evening. Take everything you need. There are no facilities at all but a dirt patch available all around the water where you can park and set up the picnic gear to enjoy a sunset then sit under the stars and relax.
Rumour has it that during hot days when the water is good there are numerous vehicles "playing in the mud" as well as nutters enjoying some wake boarding being towed by said vehicles. That may not be so relaxing as such.
A great place to bring the kids. When it rains it fills up and is very beautiful. When it is dry the clay pans are a great place to vist or even go four wheel driving.
Great place to take in the sunset, especially when there is water in the ponds, short drive south west of Alice.
Great place to give the dogs a run and explore - remember where you parked if you go for a walk it's easy to get lost haha.
Nice. However it is actually illegal to camp here. Nevertheless every night the cars, camper vans and even Caravans pour in. Makes you wonder where all these people poo.
Town council should send some Rangers, as these campers leave a lot of rubbish laying around. It's a shame.
Great place to get muddy! I enjoyed dunking my wheels into the muddy water pans and slide in the clay too.
This was just magnificent. A very beautiful and soulful experience. Colors totally amazing. Well worth going to see. HAVE UNREAL PHOTOS TO SHARE AND KEEP FOR MEMORIES.
Also simply known as "the claypans" this area is also an important recreational area for Alice Springians for walking, exercising your dog, painting, photography, picnics etc. This, despite the concerted efforts of the "fun police" to take other people's happiness away. The claypans are actually a small ephemeral lake system and only fill after heavy rains. No deeper than 1 metre in the middle of each, when they do contain water they are also popular for swimming and generally cooling off in summer.
