Horizen Cafe reviews
13The reason we went to this cafe, because we recieved $44 breaskfast voucher, which included in our one night accomodation. The environment was nice with harbour view, friendly staff. However, we needed to pay extra $17 for the breakfast & coffee (see photos). The taste of food was okay, but for that price, we can definitely go anywhere else in Darwin/Palmerston for a bigger size of breakfast, even a lunch!
When staying 7 days, included is a limited $22 breakfast or lunch allowance. The first breakfast was 2 pancakes, served cold with half a strawberry, and 4 small blueberries, butter, and syrup The second breakfast a few days later, my daughter asked for bacon & eggs with no tomato (allergy). I asked for warm pancakes with the fruit and syrup, without ice cream option. My plate came out with half a cherry tomato and 1 spinach leaf. I advised staff at the counter what I had ordered. An asian woman standing next to me got involved and checked reciepts. I explained again what I had ordered. The woman used her bare hand to scrape the tomato & spinach off my plate while telling the staff to replace it with fruit. I asked staff to change my plate because she had touched it. The woman then yelled out to the staff to change the plate. It was disgusting behaviour. We did not have breakfast there every day, and some days, there were one or two customers only. The last breakfast option was 1 piece of thick toast with jam with 2 butters and 1 container of fruit (yep, got the tomato & spinich again) One lunch option picked was bruchetta when you're not really having bruchetta, when at least one main ingredient is missing, e g, basil. It was chopped up tomato and onion on sourdough. Fantastic views
I thought the eggs would have been hard boiled fresh off the stove so to my surprise she pulled them out of the fridge. It was a tad bit windy the morning I went to breakfast, so be sure to bring a ponytail if your goal is to watch the sunrise and eat. Careful, its open space outside so it gets cold quickly. Beautiful patio. Basic breakfast options.
Pop in for a coffee! Bit overpriced otherwise, but the views are worth it for a quick coffee. Opens 6: 30 so can be there before the sun rises
Breakfast was terrible! I don't understand how this place is still allowed to operate!
What they served as Breakfast was a joke!
Lowest of the low quality! And they charged top dollar for it, what a shame!
Absolutely disappointing
Gross. $22 for a brekkie that was water logged or out of a can. The mushrooms and beans were cold, the bacon deep fried.just go for a walk to a Cafe nearby instead.
Great view, disappointing breakfast. Great friendly staff, nice confortable clean venue. Targets mid-budget travellers with reasonably priced breakfast. The Eggs Benedict well priced but basic, could do with a little more garnish or extra different sauce. Spinach mushroom muffin served hospital style. Coffee: order the take away version, the hotel regular is smaller in size. Remember this is a mid-budget breakfast. Free Wi-Fi, great harbour views.
The cafe on level 3 at the Zen Quarter has got the friendliest staff headed by Lilly who greets you every morning with a huge smile and great service. The meals are very cheap and they also do great dinners served on the rooftop that has 360° views of Darwin. Highly recommended.
The Cafe has set menus, priced at $18. They seem unable to change from what is advertised, asked for the Zen Big Breakfast with scrambled eggs told I can't do this as comes with poached eggs but if I want scrambled eggs with bacon and sausage (which comes with the Zen big breakfast) I have to order the $18 scrambled eggs and add the additional extra, it seems rather strange that in order to get the breakfast I want have to pay almost double just for scrambled eggs.
Excellent staff and service! Happy friendly greeting from Lily every morning was a great start to our day, her infectious positive attitude made us feel like vip's! Great food with plenty of options. The young female chef cooked our eggs to order every day, and they were PERFECT! Obviously staff love what they do!
Can’t beat the view of the sunrise. In May 2020 the chef was good and food was slightly better they seem to have gotten rid of him and in July 2020 food was a only average. Still worth 4 stars for the view and friendly staff.
The hours here are wrong! It basically only open for breakfast. The Sunday I was there it had closed around 10 AM so don’t expect to get coffee there late in the afternoon!
It’s a café on the third floor of a hotel. You have to go down the hotel corridors to get there.
It's a buffet breakfast, with eggs done in those steamer dishes that look like flying saucers.instead of poached eggs. Cook yr own toast. Not a cafe breakfast. And they weren't expecting non hotel guests. Wanted us to pay cash before we ate-we had to come in from our outdoorsears to pay. Nice view.
