Alice Springs School of the Air Visitor Centre

Great explanation from a friendly lady and very interesting, definitely recommended.
We already knew the story behind this project, but now it's nice to see and hear it for ourselves

Interesting to hear how the School of the Air works. The story on-screen was good but I found the music a bit distracting from the commentary.

Certainly worth going to so you get an understanding and appreciation for what these people do not only for all the outback children and families, but also for those families overseas that will be returning to Australia and stay in touch with the Australian curriculum. A great history from their humble beginnings from piggybacking on the RFDS to now using current technology to stay in touch with so many families. Oh, the teachers also drive out to the various remote locations and visit their pupils a couple of times during the year. We were fortunate enough to have one of their past students who is now an accomplished lawyer, who has written 3 books about her experience living remotely and contributes the proceeds to the School. Definitely pay these people a visit, buy a book, and make a decent donation.

We visited as a family today and really enjoyed the experience. Staff were very friendly, and our guide Diane in particular was great - gave us an informative history of the school and the local area, with a personal touch; we could happily have settled in with a cup of tea and listened to Diane telling anecdotes for hours and hours on end. The videos were interesting too, and as for the service the school provides, it goes without saying that it's pretty inspiring. A v uplifting experience and well worth the visit.

This is a very informative tour of a service that is unique to these areas. The recognition of those that developed the program to where it is today. The video just needs a bit of an update, as well as the information tiles in the gift shop area - the latest picture shows an Apple IIe and the timeline finishes at the year 2000. But thoroughly recommend the tour.

Another great tourist visit. Very informative tour covering the history and current service to the outlying districts serviced by the school.

A unique and entertaining (should I add educating?) experience, made great by the very engaging and professional staff of the facility. Guests are introduced to the history of the school and given the opportunity to see a current class. Many beautifully made artefacts, such as the steel quilt illustrate the close relationship the students and their parents have with the school. An enjoyable time and a must see for Alice Springs visitors.

Unfortunately power went out, also we went on a sunday where you can't watch teachers in action with their students, but amazing setup for education in the outback for children!

Fabulous School of the Air for kids studying out in remote locations. Great teachers, enthusiastic, motivated and innovative. Highly recommend.

Good overview of the School of the Air. There was a nice video presentation describing the history of the school followed by an opportunity to see a live lesson.

The actual service is great for kids who need it. We went there today to ask about seeing more of the centre via tour or donation.
We met Patricia who was very rude and pushy. Not a very nice person for customers interaction. The other 2 staff were lovely.
We didn't want to come back after our experience. But we will come back to learn about the service and to donate funds to the centre, but really didn't like the attitude we met from Patricia at all. Not a very good tourists 1st impression. Hope our next interaction is better.
**Edit. We came back for the tour and met Diane. She was absolutely lovely. A people's person. Great tour and very informative, everything we had hoped for. Great work Diane. You are wonderful. We left knowing alot more about the ASSOA. It's was a great educational tour. Def recommended. For the improvement in our interaction I am giving 2 extra stars.

Great place to learn about outback education, and if you're lucky, watch live classes taking place!

Great insight into teaching across very long distances. And not just in the ages with Internet but long before. Very attractive is the entrance Fee, which is actually a donation to keep the School running. Great to see some live lessons or even recordings if you ask for them. Very supportive staff. Thanks for the lovely time.

What a fantastic insight into educating children who do not have access to schools. It began with radio transmissions, materials and finished work was posted through to modern technology today where there is interaction with the teacher. It was an eye opening experience. All the past technology is on view together with the modern. The school even reaches as far as PNG.

Not a lot to do here apart from see some of the kids schoolwork and understand how the school of the air works. Entry fee does go back to fund the school which is fantastic. Great to understand how it works but there isn't enough to do here to spend over an hour.
