The Homestead Restaurant

Our experience was not as good as others review this restaurant. We were expecting a fine dining experience but it was more cafe style. Parts of the restaurant looked homely and quaint, but we ended up in the bare, lacking in ambiance verandah. Table dressing was non existant at our table. Not sure if it there is some secret system, but some other tables had tablecloths, and or placemats at least. Some chairs had comfy cushions, ours none, very standard cafe wooden chairs. Our table was bare with obvious glass marks, well used timber cafe style table, wet from the leaking roof. Cloth napkins were supplied (thank you), ordinary cutlery. Music was cafe hip hop style. Staff are young and bubbly, attentive, but not great at explaining menu. Food was nicely served, great bbq octopus and chorizo with that charcoal flavour for starter. The meat and fish main dishes were dry and lacking flavour. The much advertised charcoal bbq cooking of this restaurant was lacking in both of these. (Maybe they weren’t cooked this way.) Sides of baked potatoes were dry and overcooked. Lovely fresh tender green salad was lightly dressed. The bread is dense in texture and not warm.
For us a disappointment after all the great reviews we had heard.

Scrumptious meals loved by our group of 11. Classy restaurant, ever so patient and friendly staff (imagine serving a table of 11 excited ladies lol). Totally enjoyed our dining experience here.

Friendly staff and very attentive service, the food was excellent and not to expensive. Would definitely recommend to my friends.

On our first visit to the Island we weren't able to get a reservation due to being booked out so we were stoked to get a reservation on our latest visit. The service was great, the food was ok - there were 5 of us & noone left raving about the food. The drink service was a little slow - we waited a while between drinks, often having to get the attention of wait staff to order another round. Overall it was a little underwhelming unfortunately. I'm glad we were able to try it but after all the hype & reputation of being a "must dine here" place on the Island I wouldn't rush back. There are many other places that have as good, if not better food, and are easier to get a booking at.

What a find. Ten out of ten. Could not fault anything. Food was seriously good. Great wines and just a lovely vibe.

This was by far our best dining experience on Norfolk Island. The menu was extensive, offered a degustation menu and everything we chose was delicious. The staff were attentive and polite. Great ambience.

Somebody give these guys a Michelin Star already! I was bowled over by the perfect texture and taste of EVERY single meal that came to the table. And they are SO beautifully presented as well and that seems to be a hard balance to strike.
It's always great food there and last night was even more spectacular than usual.
The service was also wonderful as always. Of all the restaurants Ive eaten at in the world, I feel so so lucky that we have this one right on our doorstep.
Thanks for us, we'll be back.

We have returned to Norfolk Island after some 40 years.
Julie and were fortunate enough to book into Homestead at the advice of Charisse Clarke who runs Shearwater Villas, where we are staying.
We enjoyed an amazing meal their last night and must congratulate Kurt and his team for giving is a experience we will treasure.
Hopefully we return again soon to Norfolk and a visit to Homestead will certainly be on the menu.

Best experience and meaI I had on the island was at The Homestead.

Lovely property, spacious dining areas. I enjoyed some authentic Thai flavours, comparable to any good restaurant in Melbourne or the streets of Bangkok.

A must if visiting Norfolk Island.

We tried calling to book a table for four but it went straight to a message requesting we book online, we did this and received an email confirmation that the booking was successful. At that point they take your credit card details to cover costs if you do not turn up. When we arrived at 6: 00 as booked they were shut. We then had to try and find somewhere else to eat.a few places we were able to contact were booked out. So the online booking system is useless unless you can call as well and confirm your booking.luckily we were saved on the night by the local bowls club, which had excellent service and nice food. Don't waste your time with the homestead lot.

After being ignored on arrival and our booking being lost, we finally sat down to a table 15 mins after arriving. There upon started the most ordinary meal of our trip. Poorly executed flavours, inexperienced seasoning, a really lazy menu. The Homestead was to be the highlight of our dining experiences on NI, but instead turned out to be a monumental disappointment. I honestly don't understand the hype around this place, there's far better value and service to be had elsewhere.

Delicious food with local flavours. The ice cream sandwich with Hilli goats cheese icecream was truly special. Signature cocktails were unique and refreshing I loved the Green Fairy. Duck, steak, Tahitian fish and homebaked breads.

It has been said The Homestead is the best restaurant on the island.

I haven't sampled each restaurant on the island to determine if this is correct. However, the other restaurants would need to be exceptional to remove Homestead from this position.

On an island where everything is limited.there is an abundance of flavour and experience at Homestead. From the knowledgeable and helpful (local) wait-staff to the exquisite food - Homestead is a must-try on your trip to Norfolk Island.

If you are looking for something special, don't hesitate because the Homestead is popular! Amazing food cooked with love (and some amazing spices!) We will be back for sure

Lovely Dinner. Great service.curious to know what wine we were drinking, wine list did not say, also no decade coffee. Otherwise would return.

Best place on the island. The icecream sandwich was one of the tastiest things I've eaten in Oz!

Homestead is a beautiful island home that Jill and Kurt restored and re-opened the restaurant. They are amazing hosts (and chefs). The place feels so inviting and has several rooms and areas, plus the verandah, for all the guests to be as private or as open as they want to be. And of course the food.it may seem pricy but we've never left feeling hungry. The meals are like tasty creations - pleasing to the eye and tongue:) The staff are so nice - attentive, calm, friendly. Thank you all very much!

Shocking, had the local fish, a lump of, which was overcooked, chewy & full of bone the plastic Bay or Kaffier leaves had not been removed, floating in a Thai soup.
Was no feed back, not offered another meaj, just a free desrrt. I left hungry.
This restaurant was touted as the best, sorry, the club does a much better job and less expensive.

Wow, what an amazing spot, food was excellent and the service was above and beyond. Best place to dine on Norfolk.
