Great little place with everything you need, close to shops and cafes, and possibly the best service I have experienced at any accommodation. All thanks to Tima and the rest of the team there

The pictures of the Spa look amazing.
The staff were wonderful.
The accommodation was “CRAP”
Nothing like the pictures at all.
We must have had a different room.
It was dirty, mould everywhere.
Bathroom and toilet were dirty!
Kitchen and fridge was Appalling!
Walk in the bedroom and felt like I was going to fall through the floor!
Spoke to owner who got the mould cleaned off the roof and walls but still was a huge disappointing stay!
Oh and free hire car witch came as a bonus with the accommodation what a joke no aircon and sounded like a kids toy car as everyone looked at us
whenever we pulled up
Advertisement pics did not reflect our room at all.
Should see the pics I have there a laugh too. But this page does not allow me to post them

Definitely the place to stay. We had a 2 bedroom 2 bathroom unit, great size. Also included a car. Breaky items, really great as a starting. Staff were exceptional. Very clean. The spa/pool was inviting and great to relax in after hours of walking. Location was perfect.

Cumberland were a fantastic choice for our large group of 17 people. Everyone was able to have their own bedroom with ensuite and rooms were immaculate and incredibly well appointed. Tima, Rael and the team were so welcoming and helpful at every opportunity.

The reason I booked with the Cumberland was to enjoy a private spa and to take full advantage of the on site masseur. There was no private spa in my room and the masseur had left the Island 2 years before I was there.

The owner of the Cumberland Resort and Spa is an UNETHICAL, RUDE and ARROGANT man. He should not be in the hospitality industry. We had accommodation booked for early Feb. 2022. Due to the cyclone all Qantas flights to Norfolk Island were cancelled for 5 days so we could not get there for our daughters wedding. It was not our fault but he REFUSED to refund our money? We have since been informed other places on the Island refunded customers. He had people stuck on the Island paying him for our accommodation and still kept our money. Good luck mate because i believe KARMA. So anyone going to Norfolk Island do not stay at the Cumberland Resort.
With regards to the owner of the Cumberland Resort reply to my review of his business ethics.
I was not offered any future credit for accommodation. He was also very RUDE to guests who he refused to refund. He also hangs up on the phone when you try to talk to him.
QANTAS REFUNDED OUR AIRFARES IN FULL so why won't you?

When we first arrived there I quickly found out I had to endure a group discussion and listen to the manager and other guests ramble on with unnecessary rubbish which was just wasting my time. Finally after a painful 30 minutes or so we could actually check in. The manager was fumbling around as if it was her first time checking someone in. I was then over charged for the car insurance, which has apparently been refunded however, I'm yet to receive this back in my account.
Halfway through our stay, the owner turned up and just walked into our apartment with his 2 dogs. I was highly offended. I'm a paying guest and do not appreciate people just walking in nor do I appreciate their dogs coming in.
On the morning of checkout, the owner, once again, came and let himself in at 9.55 am yelling at us to get out now. I have never ever been yelled at to get out of my accomodation let alone prior to the actual checkout time. Then to further annoy me, when we returned the hire car, he then made a comment "oh I heard there was some trouble at the RSL? " We asked him what he was talking about as it seems as though he was implying it had something to do with us. He refused to explain and I quickly let him know that if he is making an accusation then he's wrong because we were never at the RSL. This owner is the rudist and most arrogant person and good idea he's selling the place because he certainly shouldn't be in hospitality.
Furthermore, the spa pool which is their only bragging point is dirty and doesn't work properly. Maintainance isn't a priority it appears. Also, we booked there because it was a day spa as well yet, this service was not operating.
Note to the angry owner, don't bother with a sour response to this as I'm not interested. I see on all the other negative reviews that you really don't like it when someone pulls you up and exposes how rude and arrogant you are. If you think it's ok to treat people like that then you better expect some negative feedback.

Raul and Gaye were always available whenever we wanted them with a smile on their face and nothing was a trouble for them. When we first arrived Raul sorted the paperwork for the car insurance out straight away (and by the way there is no rental cost so this is a massive bonus) and then took us out to the rental house to ensure that we knew how to get there along with showing us how to operate and everything there. They also supply Internet on a daily basis without cost. I suppose my only regret was with such amazing accommodation that we didn't have more people to share it with.

I advise caution as virtually everything being mentioned as advertise by this place is not factual. It states it is a resort and day spa, however it is not at all. The day spa facility is not operational and the spa swim pool is dirty and broken.

The owner is rude, aggrogant and it's just plain disappointing the way they treat their guests. The owner should not in this industry as he has zero hospitality experience. He is quite possibly one of the rudest people I have met.

I would HIGHLY recommend staying at ANY OTHER place on this beautiful island as this place is a complete let down.

The owner should not be in this industry, he is rude, nasty and a very inconsiderate person.
Not only was this place wrongly advertised online, but even once we got there everything was out-dated or just completely wrong information.
We stayed here because they said it had a day spa which was not even operational anymore.
The only thing that makes this place remotely a spa resort is the fact that they have a "spa swim pool" which by the way has mostly broken jets.
The unit I was staying in had 2x spa showers, which neither worked.
Our rooms also had SO many cobwebs on the roof and mould on the bathroom ceiling.
On our day of checking out, the owner literally let himself into our unit at 9: 50am, yelling at us in a very aggressive and rude tone of voice that we needed to get out immediately, even though check out time is 10am! Most places give a little leeway to the check out time so I thought if we were 5-10mins late it would be okay, but nup not here!
On our way out at 10: 10am, he then in a very catty tone said to us "I heard you got into some trouble at the RSL last night" when in fact we were never at the RSL, ever. So I was really annoyed by the fact that he was trying to imply something to us.
This owner is so completely unprofessional and rude, it honestly surprised me.
All of what I have said here is 100% true, accurate and factual. The fact that the owner has responded the way he has I feel really does show his true colours and to be honest I believe perhaps at one point this place may have been really nice but not anymore with this current owner and his terrible hospitality skills.
I have left this review not to be malicious in any way, I am stating my experience and that I do not want others to be disappointed as well.
If you stay here, do not have high expectations and if you experience the rudeness of the owner you should also leave a review so the rating is accurate to the present time.

Very disappointing, Our flights were Cancelled because of a cyclone Dovi.we were only going for a long weekend Friday to Tuesday, we couldn't get a flight in the 4 days, so we called the accommodation and told them the problem, hoping we could change dates or get a credit for a later date, no they were happy to keep my payment $1049 and said call your insurance, great service guys

Can't fault this place, especially considering it is on Norfolk Island, it is remarkable how good it is.

We had an unexpectedly extended stay at Norfolk due to a nearby cyclone when our 4 night stay became 9 days, but manager Tima and her team went out of her way to help us out, keep us in the loop of local gossip about flight delays, find us things to do and places to go, keep us well fed with fantastic restaurant tips. The spa pool at 36 degrees is also very nice to unwind in!

The Cumberland resort and spa is a fantastic place to stay on Norfolk Island. They're very accommodating and extremely friendly. The staff goes above and beyond and always willing to help. We went with a 2 year old and 4 month old and it went very smooth. The kids loved the jets in the bath and shower. We had unit 2 also known as the romantic suite, with a king bed and a separate rollout bed for the toddler.
There is also a heated outdoor pool with a sunshade sail. Bananas were ripening and free for the taking. Plus there is so much to do, I really recommend taking 2 weeks for Norfolk instead of the typical 1 week.

Couldn't ask for better hosts while visiting Norfolk Island. We stayed in the beautifully appointed 1 bedroom romantic room with spa bath. It had everything you need for a comfortable stay, including full kitchen, picnic basket and thermos, plenty of towels. The Cumberland is just a short walk to town and car rental is super easy to arrange through the resort (and cheaper than the car hire places too). Picking fresh bananas was a memorable highlight, and the snorkel and beach toys to borrow were much appreciated. Thanks Rael, Tima and the team for making us feel at home!

Nine friends stayed here and it was beautiful. Plenty of room in a variety of areas around the house, well appointed kitchen and extras like games and picnic gear including a cooler bag on wheels.
Less then 10 minutes drive to Burnt Pine to top up supplies at the supermarket. You'll need a car if you stay here though. Linked to Cumberland Resort in Burnt Pine and Tima was fantastic, organising tours and anything else we asked her about.
Locals are friendly and helpful. Great place to visit.

Amazing people, fantastic facilities, and a wonderful location. Our family booked for one night, and extended to 7! Highly recommend.
Excellent value, and wonderful to be able to self cater.
Thanks very much,

Lovely place and such friendly staff, the refund policy is a little harsh - but that's to be expected during these times

Stayed here for our 1st trip to Norfolk Island. Friendly staff to help our stay. When we stayed there Tima looked after us well:) Location is not too far from the city centre and shops and cafes. Walking distance to petrol station, you can also hire a car for you to go around the island. Once Covid restriction is gone, we want to stay here again:)
