Trial Bay Gaol reviews
61 Have been here several times over the years and still find something interesting on every visit.
The intro video (continuously running in the room in the right-hand corner after entering the entry gates) gives a great description of the gaol that puts everything into perspective as you walk around.
Signage around the site is pretty informative if you have time to read it. Don't forget to have a look at the museum on the way out (through the left hand door as you exit the gates). It's over 2 levels which may not be accessible to everyone as there is a narrow staircase.
Interesting history. People who don't know the history of the past are doomed to make the same mistakes again. Get out there and learn the history of our past of our great nation
Worth the detour from the freeway. Inexpensive entry fee. Interesting detail of inmates and the life they endured
Great family experience. There is a 10min intro video with the history. You can enter the cells and lock them etc, they make a great iron clashing sound. There are story boards everywhere as you go, I especially liked the bath house. Parking is direct out the front. Cost was $40 2A1C.
Amazing location, stunning views.
The fascinating and un nerving part of this goal history relates to how poorly the guards treated the early convicts and indigenous inmates, really worth a read into.
Wow, what an incredible piece of history! So well preserved. Great stories and information to help imagine the people kept at the gaol. A highlight of our trip to South West Rocks.
A place to visit if you are on Pacific Highway and need a break if you're after a scenic and an archeological escape
What an amazing spot! So rich in history and some of the cells done up to give you a look and feel of what the inmates of the time were living in.
Excellent little slice of Australian History.
Kids loved reading about the prisoners, and what the different buildings were used for. There is a very small entry fee, but it's worth the spend. The location is stunning now.but must have seemed like the end of the earth in the 1800's.
Grounds were full of Grey Kangaroos, and we even glimpsed a tree snake sunning on the wall near the guards tower!
An experience that was spoiled by a very rude un accommodating lady at reception. Very disappointing.
Pretty cool place to visit lots to see - pay to go into the jail
The information ladies are fantastic
Walk around the outside
Look out to sea
Apparently you can see whales at the right time of the year
A bush walk or two if your into that
If you like history then this is the place for you.
As you walk around you will be captivated by what it would feel like to be a prisoner back in the day.
Don’t forget to have a look in the little museum just as you go through the entry on your right.
And take the short walk up the hill to where you will find the graves and an amazing view of the goal.
Historic landmark with picturesque view.
A must visit place if you are near to Kinchela.
Awesome to visit and learn a piece of our history that doesn't get taught in schools.
The whole area is a wonderful place to see
Second time I've visited, and the kids thoroughly enjoyed the experience both times.
There's a wealth of information posted around the site; well worth taking the time to read it all.
Great to see the kangaroos around.
This is a must see when in the area. A well preserved piece of Australian history. An amazing structure with a slightly dark past. Worth the $10 to get.
Visited the jail whist staying in the caravan park. Perfect base to explore around south west rocks area. Beach Front. The amenities at the park were pristine and great helpful staff at the jail which was fascinating in it's history and very well documented. Great walking tracks from the park.
Highly recommended.
