35 A very well run centre in my opinion. Spoke to a lady on the phone yesterday and she was very helpful. Patrick in the Centre today was also very good.
We thoroughly recommend the Heritage Bus Tour that runs from the Centre 6 days per week.
I popped in to get some suggestions on what to see and do on our way from Armidale to Tamworth. I'm so glad I did! I was armed with brochures, suggestions and recommendations. The lady I spoke to was really knowledgeable and helpful. They also have driver reviver from here. Given we were in for a drive and I hadn't had a coffee yet, I grabbed a cup. Highly recommend visiting here to find out all the inside knowledge on how best to spend your time in the area.
The Armidale Visitors Centre really is a must! We were warmly greeted by Faye, who has lived in Armidale for a very long time as we found out, and who is a wealth of information in and around the area. The experience was very much like discovering treasure with what we were provided. Not just on what to see but the history as well. We were able to tailor our own touring experience with the information provided and can not thank Faye enough! I heard locally about the council possibly replacing people in the information centre with machines. I hope this never happens. We have had experiences with information machines, they never give you exactly what your looking for, they can't tell you about the treasures you might be interested in but don't know there there, or which way to go to get the maximum visits in areas depending on when they are open. Faye made it a breeze, and we will have to come back as there was far too much to do and see in one day. Thank you again for the experience, education, information, and your warm, friendly nature Faye, you are a gem!
Staff inside the centre were welcoming and very informative, answering all our questions. We rook the guided bus tour, learning all about the rich history of the area. A definite must do for visitors to the area.
The ladies in the Centre were very helpful. We did the guided tour the following day. Norm the driver and John the guide gave us such a wonderful incite into the heritage of Armidale. It is a very unique tour that should be on top of the list for all visitors to Armidale. Highly recommended.
I really want to thank the lady who helped us plan our two days stay in Armidale. Five star service. Her knowledge of the area, the attractions around was very thorough!
We were welcomed warmly as we entered the info centre by Patrick who was very helpful. He helped us decide how to best spend our time in Tamworth. We did the Heritage Bus tour of Tamworth and it was 3 hours well spent. Congrats to the volunteers that work there.
Seems strange that I stopped at the visitors centre but had to use the toilets at the nearby service station. No toilets open at the Government sponsored visitors centre. Thanks to the private enterprise servo for providing clean toilets to ‘visitors’ Pathetic really.
One volunteer was helpful here, however I have to say our Armidale experience was less than enthusiastic. Although natural beauty surrounds the area, which we enjoyed, we found the town to be rather a wee bit pretentious for what it actually is, in all honesty. It has a university, but that doesn't make a town's folk better than other people or towns in their region, which so many Armidale folk seemed to take so much pride in telling us. And why do Armidale people bag Tamworth so much? I found it really quite rude, I have to say. We have great friends in Tamworth and have enjoyed day trips to fantastic places like Nundle while there. Don't Armidale residents actually have to go to Tamworth for medical treatment, due to its very large base hospital? And, Armidale, we also have to say, your university is actually only ranked 800-1000 on an international index, so it's not exactly Princeton. We found people to be a little too elitist for our liking, and the town itself seems to be filled with city relocation these days. It's lost the country mentality. The town most definitely isn't Oxford, so maybe come down a peg or two in attitude. We really enjoyed Uralla, Walcha, Manilla, Inverell, and Gunnedah to be truthful - people were down to earth, kind, and genuine. By the way, I think there's a lot more money in the Gunnedah region that Armidale itself. So many shops down Gunnedah's main street, bustling with people. Armidale seems to be half closed these days, and the weather was just a wee bit unfriendly as well.
You just HAVE to go on the free (donations accepted) bus tour - starts at 10am from the visitor centre, but get there 15 minutes earlier to book your place,
Carolyn was an amazing tour guide, giving us lots of really good information and gave a great running commentary. Norm our driver / tour guide backed up Carolyn with other useful information and gave us a great tour of Boomloominbah House.
In the visitor centre itself, really friendly staff and lots of relevant information.
A female employee came from inside to the parking lit to complain at my support worker I was with and had the nerve to say my support worker was wrong when they didn't agree on caravans not parking into designated caravan places and parking longways across several car parking spaces, saying it was legal, kept pushing the issue. She was so rude, and I hate I had to be around to witness her rude attitude.
It's not, it's been verified with the council and was told it's not legal regardless of caravan length. She should call the council because she clearly doesn't know the law.
The lady at the tourist info centre was supper helpful and so passionate about all that is to do and see around Armidale. She gave us maps and showed us the best places to go. We enjoyed the wax museum too. Thank you so much
Great info centre with heaps on information for what to do in the region, covering all interests!
Fay was such a great help deciding what to do with a week in Armidale. Her suggestions have been spot on and we have really enjoyed getting to know the area.
Very helpful & friendly. The guided Heritage Tour is a must do. Very informative staff. So much history in this city I didn't know about.
We throughly enjoyed the tour - Norman and Bill were extremely knowledgeable and friendly- the tour was the highlight of our time in Armidale - thank you to all the staff at the information centre especially Tony.
The knowledgeable delightful woman on front desk is so enthusiastic and informed. What a joy to visit this area and find this centre. Thankyou very much
Marvelous people. Thanks Bruce. Good to have you around. Just don't bother so much of war history. I.t's been a long time ago. Younger generations don't always likes to be reminded. In particular Europeans which have experienced all the trauma a war leaves a lasting bad memory. All good otherwise
The ladies who run this information centre were so very helpful. My car had broken down, no hired car to be had in town, buses services very scarce but yet these lovely ladies made the experience bearable. I was amazed at the warm hearted help. Country city, kindness of the best kind. Thank you so much
Lovely park and EV charging. Unfortunately the centre was closed on Xmas day when I came through
Faye is amazing, so helpful and knowledgeable. Definitely the place to visit for all local knowledge. Ill be back.
