I can highly recommend Unlocking Creativity. I’m just so happy I made the decision to commit to a four-week course that could prove to be life-changing. I have learned some of the fundamentals of fiction writing (put pressure on your main character! How does that pressure change them?) Getting a story out of my imagination and down on paper is so liberating! Now I just want to learn more.

June 2023 has turned out to be one of the best months of my life. I signed up for the ‘Unlocking Creativity' writing course at the Writer’s Studio in Bronte. Oh, what a game-changer! In a matter of just 4 weeks, I’m amazed how I’ve gone from no writing to writing at least 15+ fiction scenes. It was truly incredible to see how well the entire end to end process and the story writing framework works. I’m thrilled to continue with my writing and apply all the principles I’ve learned in this course. Totally recommend it!

I am so glad I did this course. The Writers' Studio took me from noodling in notebooks to writing several short stories that I was happy to share with others. The step by step guidance was peppered with insightful information and snippets of inspiration. The ‘Unlocking Creativity' course quickly moved me beyond my initial fears and got my imagination off and running. A few months later I returned to do the 'Short Story - Genre' course and learnt the defining qualities of several popular genres.
The ‘writers board’ was an invaluable feature providing interaction with tutors and fellow writers in a friendly environment. I found it illuminating to give and receive structured feedback. The class tutor Helen was excellent. She offered advice and encouragement in such an engaging and entertaining way that made the experience fun and rewarding.
I never hesitate to recommend ‘Unlocking Creativity’ as a great jumping off point to anyone who expresses an interest in creative writing and I look forward to exploring more courses in the future. Thanks to all at The Writers’ Studio for a great learning experience.

It’s been inspirational to see my fellow writers grow and it’s pushed me to keep up. Everybody’s writing has been astonishingly enjoyable to read, it’s amazing to think about how many talented writers are out there. I still have a lot of work ahead of me but the infectious positivity from my tutor and fellow writers has motivated me to keep hammering away!

I think the most important thing I’ve learned during my time here is to keep things fun. The moments when I’ve felt the least productive are when my inner perfectionist is the most vocal. Easier said than done! With so many things to work on, there’s never been a more exciting time for me to keep writing.

I’ve always wanted to write and at last, I’ve encountered and experienced a course that for the previous 4-Weeks has really connected me to that dream. I can’t tell you how amazing and transformative this course was for me. It showed me how to quieten my inner critic (and I hadn’t even realised how strong it was). It allowed me to access a side of myself that I’d lost, or perhaps had ever thought I never had. I have recently taken the 4 week Unlocking Creativity Course and I thought it was excellent. Totally Re-energized my love of writing and got me moving toward a writers career again!

Did this course with the intention of completing more in-depth courses on writing.
It was extremely disappointing and definitely not what I expected in a course that was not exactly cheap
Not at all personalized. Very generic content.

What put me off completely was the constant pressure to read and critique other writers. Whereas feedback can definitely be beneficial to peers, I feel that more tutor involvement was necessary.

You are basically given clips to watch and short articles to read and then topics to write on topics such as Mother, Love hurts, Life Sucks…
You have to offer feedback for 2 pieces of work before a tutor gives you feedback on your own.

It was absolutely disappointing and not at all a motivating class that explores creativity in the individual.

I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS COURSE.

I completed Unlocking Creativity (UC) online, which does exactly what it says in an encouraging and supportive environment, and found it to be so empowering that I immediately enrolled in and completed the six-week Short Story Genre online course. If you had told me before UC that I would be able to produce four stories in six weeks, some in genres that I have zero interest in, I would have been sceptical. But the Writers Studio courses, and their processes, will get you putting pen to paper successfully. A big thanks to my UC tutor Alyssa, and for Genre, the extremely generous and supportive Helen. I’m starting First Draft Online in March 2023 and cannot wait. But until then, it’s daily writing all the way. You will not regret taking your first, or next, steps on your writing journey with The Writers’ Studio.

I fell behind early on with this course, which is my own fault, but beyond the course content (mostly long form written and image quotes) and the group discussion board there wasn’t really much in terms of tutor contact or support. It also had a lot of focus on “overcoming fear of sharing” which I found a little overstated for a writing course. If you’re happy with a pure content + peer review methodology, then it may be for you, but it didn’t work for me.

Have completed the First and Second Draft courses. Both so good and well worth it! The First Draft uncovered a story I didn't even know I had inside of me, and the Second Draft turned ideas and possibilities into a story filled with drama, action, reaction and emotion. I can't believe I actually have a novel! Literally couldn't have done it without these courses, I've learnt so much about the writing and myself in the process. Highly recommend!

What a mind opening experience! Having never done any kind of formal writing, I was keen to learn some structure and planning skills. The course not only delivered on those skills but also had fabulous exercises to get squeeze out the writers creativity and imaginings! Posting to for real life people to read and comment was initially terrifying but was by far the best part - getting feedback on what other's read in my stories. The tutors are excellent - suggesting different ways to write and offering their praise! Highly recommend the Unlocking Creativity course if you want to stretch your writing capabilities.

This course changed my life and turned me into a fiction writer - well, almost, as I have yet to undertake the second draft course. My tutor, Elise, was fabulous, really encouraging and insightful. I learnt the discipline of writing in this course. I was also thankful for all the steps and exercises as they helped me to understand my main character and her adventures at a deep level. I began this course with an idea for a novel and ended it with a full first draft. Thanks to everyone who facilitates this course. I'm very grateful I enrolled and then stuck with it for ten months.

I recently completed the 4 week Unlocking Creativity On-Line Course and it was one brilliant!
One of the most wonderful parts of the course was how we all posted and gave feedback to each other through the weeks. What initially felt like a daunting and harrowing affair, putting yourself out into the world like that, became a trusted place of positivity and openness which had value beyond measure.

I had such a great time over the four weeks that I have committed to the ten-month writers course. A really great delivery method and overall outstanding learning opportunity to let your creativity fly!

The course Unlocking Creativity is brilliant and will change the way you write and truly unlock the writer in you!

The course was well structured, building weekly with achievable goals and realistic deadlines. The feedback from our tutor, Rowena, and fellow course participants was valuable and encouraging.
