The Whale Restaurant / Queen Chow Narooma reviews
47Very nice ambience. Relaxing and chic restaurant with an excellent view. Staff were friendly and helpful. Dessert was good.
Highly recommend Queen Chow Narooma. The food was delicious and the staff were very attentive. A special thanks to Leah (our wait staff) who was a delight and her dish recommendations were on point, she's a real asset to this establishment. Looking forward to trying Queen Chow in Enmore and hoping it lives up to Narooma.
Queen Chow hits the spot in so many levels - an atmospheric and beautifully refined dining space with consistently good food of interesting complexity and flavour (the tuna sashimi in an orange and chilli oil vinaigrette was a particular stand out this time but the dim sum and the duck pancakes never fail to please). It’s a cut above most places in metropolitan Sydney let alone regional NSW. And to that end, it met all of our expectations and we had a great time. But the disappointing feature of last night was the service - it was friendly enough but there was a point when we waited nearly half an hour between our “entree” and “main”. Clearly the influx of guests at that time had caused some calamity in the kitchen but rather than acknowledge the delay (even after we’d asked), it was fobbed off with a response of “it’s coming in 5 mins”. We all understand that things don’t always work to schedule but an organisation of Merivale’s maturity should have dealt better with this.
Service is really really good. Outstanding actually. Very friendly and engaged team. Easily some of the best service you'll find on the south Coast.
Food is also quite good. Some dishes amazing. It's definitely on the pricier end of the scale. Nice view over the harbour too.
5 star for Services and 1 star for food.
The waitress recommended us to order Lobster with egg noodles in Garlic & shallot. It was the worst lobster egg noodles we've ever had. They used the pre-cooked lobster and quickly stir-fried it with egg noodles so the garlic & shallot sauce wasn't absorb into the lobster. We still have the "fishy smell" after eating the lobster. Seriously, my 15 year old niece could cook a better lobster egg noodles than them! They charged 15% surcharge on public holidays so our bill came to $165 just for a lobster egg noodles, an entree, a beer and a bottle of water $12. We were still hungry after the dinner. We wouldn't recommend Queen Chow Narooma to anyone.
It was an unusually humid evening so the air-conditioning was struggling.but it's a first world problem.
Amazing food!
5 stars simply isn't enough to rate this amazing restaurant, seafood was best we have ever had, such generous servings we honestly struggled to eat, the staff were absolutely 1st class in service and communication of the quality of food while looking over the beautiful Narooma inlet at sunset, we loved the dining experience that was relaxed so we could enjoy our dinner at our pace, this is without a doubt one of the best dining experiences you could go to on the NSW coast if not all of the country, thankyou everyone, we will definitely be back when in Narooma next visit.
So lucky to have Queen Chow in Narooma! Delicious Cantonese food, amazing cocktails and wine list matched with friendly service
Wanted to love it, but poor service and argumentative staff completely ruined our evening. After a 45 minute wait for my main meal, after my husband had received his, it was clear tne kitchen had forgotten mine. After asking three times it finally arrived (long after our wine was finished). Staff said that was how we had requested it. Sigh. Just be honest guys. That’s all we wanted. Not a “free” dessert as compensation. Never again.
Expensive. Food was no better than an average chinese restaurant that would cost ¼ the price.
I dont underatand the high ratings of this place.
Great food, presented well. Very attentive and friendly service done in a very professional and not overbearing manner
Fantastic food and the service is great, but it does not have the Merivale decor as the other QC’s have.
Awesome Food!
Awesome Ladies!
Cool Retro Jazz Music!
Highly recommend this place if you drive down south
Banquet #69 highly recommended
Attended opening night of the whale since new management. I was really impressed by the food and the service will definitely come back again. Sword fish was a stand out!
Average, average! My $39 slow cooked lamb was tough and chewy not even close to anything slow cooked.you can get better food in a pub. We were there celebrating a friend and all the dishes were a big disappointment.
The only good thing was the staff, they were very attentive and friendly. Place is clean but it is sooo overpriced for the food they offer. Some of the people ordered the fish which they said it was bland and overcooked.
The place is overrated. I was part of a small group. Paid for $39 for an average duck dish. A big disappointment. This is one of the many cases where they use fancy descriptions for their food and actually is a food court quality. Not even! Staff friendly. Don't recommend!
Our meal at The Whale was the 2nd night of our annual holiday & it was amazing! We had yellkw-fin tuna for mains & it was demicious! Desserts were especially yum! Service was very good & staff were friendly.
Epic views from the restaurant and lounge. Delicious food made with local ingredients plus a great list of wines.
My partner and I had an amazing night! Superb cocktails and extensive wine list. Beautiful food with great vegetarian options. The staff were amazing at making us feel comfortable and well looked after. Wonderful view from our table. One of the best nights out we’ve had in a long time!
Amazing views food was excellent but a little overpriced with a restricted range. Service was a litle tardy. Overall a nice place but we will not be rushing back.
