The Rail Journeys Museum reviews
17 Excellent museum on large working NSW Railway station.
Beautiful building, well presented exhibits and very friendly and knowledgeable volunteers.
Well worth a visit.
Werris Creek Railway Station is very old and steeped in rich history. If you have a history buff or steam train enthusiast in your family, it's well worth the visit.
Only $5 entry for adults, and children are FREE. The railway museum was an interesting exhibit, with very friendly, helpful and knowledgeable volunteers who share their genuine passion for the area with you as they show you around the museum.
See how the station operated from the early 20th Century, from the staff and track workers, to the station masters and cooks providing refreshment to weary travellers. Lots of artifacts on display from communication equipment, old seats, uniforms, lots of photos and plenty of stories from those who worked in the rail industry throughout the stations history.
Werris Creek is a beautiful, quiet village with stunning country scenery. It's not hard to find a good quality bite to eat, and there's a great children's playground built by the local Lion's Club.
If you fancy an adventurous way to get there, take the modern day XPT going through to Sydney that leaves at 10: 27am from Tamworth train station and take the 40 minute train ride to Werris Creek (just make sure someone picks you up or you make plans to stay the day in this beautiful village otherwise the next train doesn't come back through from Sydney until 3pmish).
Great place to visit and enjoy the history of the railway in nsw. Staff are voluteers, some having worked all their lives on the railway. Well worth seeing.
We happened upon the museum accidenatally whilst passing though Werris Creek. We spent 2 hours thoroughly engrossed in the large array of railway memorabilia housed here. There is absolutely too much to take in during a single visit. This place is a credit to the community at Werris Creek in celebration of their rich railway heritage.
Great for those that love trains.
Very well done and worth a look if only for the history of Australian rail
Great railway museum and memorial for the 2700 people who've lost their lives working on the railways of Australia since tge 1880s
A museum that is worth the time. Is centred on the railway workings but done in layman's terms. Most carriages are open with items that would have been used in that time. All the volunteers we met were friendly and helpful.
It’s with much sadness I need to inform you that my father John lennon passed away at the age of 92 on 12 January at 11: 45 am
If you're into railways history or just history in general, then this is a must! For just a gold coin donation you can see an amazing collection of photos, railwayanalia, information and models. You need to at least allow a couple of hours or you spend most of the day if you read everything. Run by the most friendly volunteers. Highly recommended!
Loved it. Helpful staff and the displays were educational. Outside there were statues and names relating to past railway staff
An amazing place. And that spectacular working model of 3801! Wonderful display. Well done, Werris Creek.
Great place to catch up on rail history. Uniforms, tools, pictures, multiple movies going and a model HO train running layout. Beautiful things to buy, lovely station.
Never knew this place existed what a wonderful piece of history. Volunteers were wonderful as well
Great experience, heaps of memorabilia of days gone by to do with the rail industry, good operational model train setup & adjacent to live railway station.
Amazing to see all the bricks with so many workers names.great to find the family heritage of railway workers.
Terrific museum staffed by some great volunteers. Gives a good insight into the significant role railways have played in the development of regional and rural NSW. Well worth a visit.
It's a beautiful museum in such a small town. I have been and seen the museum and the railway platform very carefully, as j spend one whole day and night in the railway.the museum is beautiful, not only that the people in the museum were so kind and lovely voluntaring for the museum.
