The Newport reviews
43Fabulous location for drinks, sundowners and phenomenal pizza. Many other dishes too and Bert’s a first class establishment, up there with Mimis in the East.
We stopped here for lunch, enjoyed the fish schnitzel and classic burger. Though, we would recommend the venue only on sunny days since it lives from the nice (and huge) outside areas.
We will come back on a nicer day for sure and check out their outside spaces. But also good-wise we would recommend this place.
Fantastic location, staff, vibe, music & entertainment for kids. Really need to add some vegan options to menu.
The water view is breathtaking. The food is tasty and fresh. The service is a little slow, especially the cocktails.
Place was huge! The place was divided into different sections. You order food from one section and drinks at another, etc. There's also a gelato cart and play area for kids, so definitely family friendly. Lots of seating, good for grouos. Great service, but food and drinks are a bit pricey. Very laid back, casual vibe. Parking can be tricky during busy times as expected.
Crowded. If you like to queu come here. There is a line for drinks, a line for pizza, a line for fish & chips. Impossible to eat a meal together. Tables held for Hendricks and Paul for 1pm still vacant at 2.30pm! $9 for a glass of Chandon & about $40 for a dozen oysters. No complaints about the quality of food & drink. Try a day other than Sunday.
We used to come to the Newport when there was table service. But lately it’s given me a headache going to each section to collect drinks and food especially with kids. Outlook is nice. Food is average so maybe I’ll give it a miss.
Enjoyed a belated Mother's day and my son's birthday with the family. Great service and such friendly staff. The food was amazing and even though we had a cloudy day the wonderful atmosphere of "The Newport" lifted all of our spirits.
Meh. Great location with some good views but very busy. Has several bars and kitchens to cope with numbers. Can be a hassle to get a table.
Awesome place for any occasion. Spectacular view, great atmosphere and nice food and drinks.
Stumbled across this gem on a spontaneous trip with friends. We were all impressed that it was dog friendly too!
Visited on a Monday evening ~ Beautiful sunset followed by good food, a complimentary toasty warm firepit and a great ambiance. Highly recommend a cozy winter visit.
Simply the best beer garden in Sydney perhaps the world. That’s a big statement but I have never seen better in all my travels. What Merrivale have done to the gardens is a work of art and should be applauded. The food is acceptable but nothing to write home about and their system of multiple venues to order the food is painful although inguess it helps with the shear volumes that they would produce on a sunny weekend.
There are many Karen’s complaining that it’s not family Freindly and they don’t serve coffee. It’s a pub not a playground and if you want coffee see the last sentence and find a more appropriate place for your mothers group meeting.
Very pretty view but:
1- Took us 15 minutes including asking the bar tenders to find someone from the staff outside to tell us where out booked table was.
2- Pretty chalkboard on our booked table saying the name of the booking yet the table itself was so dirty.
3- Some heaters were not working and they ran out of heaters fast so not enough heaters.
4- The way the food was served made it become cold so fast.
5- We brought a birthday cake and gave it to the staff with the booking name but when it was the time for it the staff could not know which one is ours and had to give some information about the cake box and what kind of cake it was to get it.
Picturesque location overlooking Pittswater. Options of fresh cooked pizza or burgers section. We just enjoyed a wine and the view. But plan to go back for their pizzas next trip.
Really great place for the whole family. Good selection on the menu, relaxed vibe and play area for kids too. And the view is pretty special too.
One of my fav places in Sydney! Opposite our fav dog beach too. The Newport is a Merivale venue is best described as an alfresco marketplace with a kiosk, pizzeria, shack and seafood market. All dog friendly!
I’ve eaten at the Shack and the seafood market. Lots of variety on the menu. Food comes pretty quick even when busy. Grab a table, look out at the view and enjoy the Newport.
Chicken Wings - generous portions and super crispy and yum! These are actually my fav in Sydney
The Newport is a great Pub that is exceptionally family friendly. They certainly know how to charge for the privilege of attending the venue! $$ Beware of holiday surcharges (i.e. Approx $22 for 2x schooners of draft beer). Other than that, ensure to avoid the general marketplace kiosk and order from the Pizza stand: the Pizza was perfect and came out quickly. Other members of our party waited ages for their meals which did not have the same wow factor.
Really enjoyed our time here - service is a little inconsistent. Great concept, although they say there is 4 different outlets but the menu really feel as if they equals one full menu and then a pizza menu! Great music and vibes - will be back!
Atmosphere is great and beer selection is pretty good. Food is a bit too expensive for what it is but I guess that's what you have to do to attract the young crowd.
Amazing location, great vibe if the weather is good.food is average for that price, you'd expect better food especially the burgers menu.
