The Lock-Up reviews
14It's a very interesting art gallery set up in an old prison. It's worth a visit! Entry is free, but you can donate $5 at the entrance if you like. I think the art is for sale as well. The prison cells are interesting to see, one cell was padded and had fingernail scratches on the door. We visited on a Sunday afternoon and it wasn't crowded.
Beautiful but eeire gallery, was super interesting to see both the exhibit and the history of the building.
Recently visited this place. The prison itself is not big. The art pieces are usually displayed in prison cells. The particular exhibition on display wasn't that great tbh but nevertheless it's fine to visit here if your in Newcastle.
The lock up is an amazing performance space by the way Catapult is an amazing company to watch.
Very interesting venue for an art space. Interesting exhibits, and friendly curators. Former penal colony jail. Cells and exercise yard to explore. An eye opener.
Amazing art glass installation - referencing Kurt Vonnegut AND Mark Twain AND white Australia's head-in-the-sand about our horrific history and currency with Aboriginal Australians...
What a fascinating piece of history to explore!
It was very interesting exploring the maze of lockup cells, including a padded wall cell & a very tiny cell.
This would make an even more fabulous tourist attraction with the option to sleep in one of the cells for a night, & a history tour of the Lockup & cells.
Just saw a modern dance "Fault Lines". Incredible performance, creative choreo, set design and costume. Well done! The venue really added to the ambience and intimacy of the performance. Love the wall color and textures
Always something interesting and stimulating on show. And then there's the history of the building. Well worth a visit.
I have loved every exhibition I have seen here. Always such an excellent use of this very unique space.
Always very interesting. Sholes were amazing. Definitely worth the time yo see this exhibition.
Harrowing yet beautiful exhibition featuring the work of two artists. Free entry and definitely worth a look!
An interesting if not unsettling location. A unique backdrop for some thought provoking art installations.
Thoroughly enjoyed this exibit.
Great venue for an evening drinks and small live music.
Was there for the 70s fundraiser and it was a perfect space for a great cause!
