The Golden Sheaf is a vibrant and iconic venue that holds a special place in the heart of Sydney's social scene. While it tends to be a bit on the pricey side, the overall experience justifies the cost. The diverse menu caters to various tastes, and the quality of the food is consistently impressive. The pub fare, especially the burgers and share plates, stands out. The atmosphere is lively, especially during weekends, making it an ideal spot for socializing and enjoying live music. The service is generally efficient, and the extensive drink selection adds to the overall appeal. Whether you're there for a casual drink or a more indulgent dining experience, The Golden Sheaf remains a go-to destination for those seeking a vibrant and entertaining atmosphere in Sydney's Eastern Suburbs.

I thought it was a nice bar, visiting from Singapore. All of a sudden the security is shouting in the bathroom and I had to pause mid stream. I was so alarmed and shocked. Apparently this happens in Sydney?

This is my favourite pub in the world, wouldn’t come to Sydney without a visit. Great atmosphere, beautiful surroundings and friendly staff.

An FORMER icon of the Eastern Suburbs, used to have a great vibe, but the food has become too expensive, and dare I say it, the service arrogant
Long queues on Friday and weekends are diminishing as patrons find other venues

Popular spot for lunch and dogs. Huge pub with a relaxed atmosphere. Great selection of food and drinks, classic pub food.

The vibe is friendly and welcoming. Super popular this place can pack out!

The service is minimal contact, no table service etc.

I ordered the salmon for lunch, which was cooked perfectly and served with a delicious lemon butter sauce. The salmon was flaky and moist on the inside, and the skin was crispy on the outside. The lemon butter sauce was tangy and creamy, and it complemented the salmon perfectly.

I also brought my dogs, and they were welcome to sit at our feet while we ate. The staff were very accommodating and made sure that my dogs had plenty of water.

The Golden Sheaf is a great option for a casual lunch with friends or family. The food is delicious, the service is excellent, and the atmosphere is relaxed.

Review of Golden Sheaf Hotel, Double Bay, NSW:

I recently had the pleasure of staying at the Golden Sheaf Hotel in Double Bay, NSW, and it was an exceptional experience from start to finish. This charming boutique hotel exceeded my expectations in every way, making my stay truly memorable.

Upon arrival, I was greeted by the warm and friendly staff, who made the check-in process quick and efficient. The lobby exudes an elegant and inviting ambiance, setting the tone for the rest of my stay. The attention to detail in the hotel's decor, from the tasteful artwork to the cozy furnishings, immediately made me feel at home.

The room I stayed in was nothing short of delightful. It was spacious, immaculately clean, and beautifully designed. The bed was incredibly comfortable, providing a restful night's sleep after a long day of exploring the nearby attractions. The amenities in the room were modern and convenient, including a flat-screen TV, a well-stocked minibar, and complimentary Wi-Fi, ensuring I had everything I needed for a pleasant stay.

One of the highlights of my visit was the dining experience at the hotel's restaurant. The on-site eatery boasts an impressive menu that caters to a variety of tastes. Whether I craved a hearty Australian steak or a delicate seafood dish, the talented chefs at Golden Sheaf Hotel delivered exceptional culinary delights that satisfied my palate. Additionally, the restaurant's stylish and cozy setting made dining there a pleasure.

The hotel's location in Double Bay is undoubtedly a major advantage. It's nestled in a charming neighborhood with plenty of upscale shops, cafes, and restaurants within walking distance. I enjoyed taking leisurely strolls along the picturesque streets, and the nearby public transport made it easy for me to explore the rest of Sydney's attractions.

Another notable aspect of my stay was the outstanding customer service provided by the hotel staff. They were always eager to assist with any inquiries or requests I had, going above and beyond to ensure my stay was as enjoyable as possible.

The Golden Sheaf Hotel also boasts a rooftop area that offers breathtaking views of the city skyline and the nearby harbor. It was the perfect place to unwind after a day of sightseeing, sipping on a well-crafted cocktail while enjoying the sunset.

In conclusion, my experience at the Golden Sheaf Hotel in Double Bay, NSW, was nothing short of exceptional. The hotel's elegant ambiance, top-notch amenities, delicious dining options, and attentive staff combined to create an unforgettable stay. One of the best pubs for a meal in Sydney, the schnitzel was cooked well and chips were perfect. Also one of the best of only a few pubs in sydney for mussels!

The standard the security department holds themselves to is appalling. They're extremely rude and hostile. I Was kicked out 30 minutes into the night because of suspicious behaviour in the bathroom and when I gave the security guard permission to search my pockets or remove my belongings in my pockets I was aggressively escorted out of the establishment and threatened that the police would be called if I didn't leave. When speaking to the manager outside he provided me with zero clarification and received nothing but threats from everyone including the manager on the 4/02/21 Wednesday.

Absolutely ridiculous behaviour by management and staff. Not only did we have a table booked for a function and we went to the bar at around 7.30 and then all of a sudden people started going to our table. No mention of a time warning no mention from any staff members or manager what was going on. Poor communication skills and poor customer behaviour for everyone one that works there. After that we moved into the main bar area even though we shouldn’t have the communication between staff, managers and technology so poor. We saw they had a juke box available put 2 dollars in, then be met with a security guard telling us that the juxbox even though fully functional, wasn't going to change the song due to the DJ on. I then went to the bar and was talking to what looked like the bar manager on duty her name perceived to be as “maya” told me nothing could be done.

Honestly appalled by the lack of customer service or care at this venue. How you continue to operate with such disrespect and absolute disgust towards customer feedback. Pretending that they aren’t hearing what consumers are saying is not only inconsiderate to the needs of the consumer but also just rude plus inappropriate!

Sorry to add to this the manager on duty then approached my other friends claiming that she didn't hear me and then she could then give me the refund, this was after i asked for her name. Honestly save your money and go else where or just be careful of awful communication and scam like behaviour.

Worst service I have ever experienced. Rude non-acknowledging staff, do not listen to orders, disrespectful when you query the order.
Never again

Nice in the daytime great food+ staff. Then late night its a different place with one rude bouncer in particular. A vastly different place emerges!

One of Sydney’s traditionally pubs nestled in Double Bay, with a huge beer garden out the back and a couple of areas upstairs.

The food, well the steak and grilled salmon, and skinny fries were excellent, restaurant prices but well worth it. Great place for food or just a beer.

Dog friendly pub, great place for a casual lunch with lots of different spaces. Food is always good, as is the service.

Sheaf has always been a good place to have a night out or relax in the courtyard on weekends. Reluctantly I have to explain what happened here last Wednesday as I tried to discuss the matter with the Hotel discreetly but received no response in the last 6 days since Wednesday night.

I was minding my business at the bar when someone next to me accused me, to the bartender, of spiking their drink. Instead of consulting the cameras the bartender parroted the unfounded and unsubstantiated accusation. In the service industry you don't get much more insulting and unprofessional. Is this what the Golden Sheaf thinks is appropriate -people are guilty before being proved innocent. And then no one contacts me to apologise or discuss the matter? You have my phone number - it's on the email I sent.

Disappointing! I went yesterday with 2 friends and one of them was barred from entering because he was out of the "expected standard" but he was dressed as half the party people. As we tried to argue with the manager, who was extremely rude, a guy behind us felt discriminated, all his friends were allowed in, except him, who was clearly gay. Sad to see such a situation in 2020.
It was my First time in the sheaf, probably the last.
