The Cottage Bar & Kitchen

The setting is in a beautiful heritage building on the main drag of Balmain. Service was ok, though we had to wait a while to get menus after getting seated. The food was ok too. Had the roasted cauliflower and vodka rigatoni. Not the most flavoursome dishes, a little under seasoned. The pasta was quite small in size too, given it was under the substantial part of the menu.

Food was really good. We shared a calamari starter and the Bisteca Fiorentina with a side of brccolini for our main. They were cooked really well and tasted great. The cashew paste with the broccolini was divine. Service was attentive without being OTT and the little garden courtyard was lovely and made you forget you're sitting on a busy road!

I had the most wonderful lunch at The Cottage today. The place is a hidden gem right here in Balmain! The atmosphere was so relaxing, making it the perfect spot for a beautiful afternoon meal. And let me tell you, the food was absolutely delicious—I was so engrossed in enjoying it that I forgot to take a picture! Highly recommended for a special dining experience.

Georgina the manager was so lovely. We sat at the bar and chatted all night to the staff. Very welcoming and warm. You have to try the Moreton bay bug!

Went to lunch here with some friends and enjoyed it. They allow dogs in the outdoor area so we sat outside in the sun. It started off slowly as the waitress did not see us apparently, albeit, she walked by tables next to us at least 3-4 times. Hard to believe 4 people sitting at a table were not visible. In any case, we ordered a few things and then the service improved quite a bit.

Aperol spritz was great and the food was very good. The polenta bites were amazingly good and moreish. The cauliflower roast was also very good and I enjoyed my pizza with truffle and mushrooms. The sticky date pudding was ok not great, the butterscotch sauce was a bit thin but nice.

Overall a great meal and I would gladly come here again for a meal. It’s priced at the upper end of Balmain restaurants but it has a lovely ambience and a bit outdoor space.

We ordered the tuna tartare and the spanner Carb tagliatelle.the tartare was pretty nice but the spanner carb tagliatelle was a big disappointment.the size of the pasta is quite small and like 60% of the pasta is not cooked properly. The last picture shows that one of the tagliatelle is still sticking together and it’s hard to chew. It’s really not worth $39.not recommend

I booked a table of 8 for a reunion lunch. The food was fantastic and the staff was very attentive and lovely. Everyone was impressed and vowed to return! Thankyou!

Lovely ambience and setting in the heart of Balmain. Service was great along with the food and drinks on offer. I attended a client lunch with the personal suggestion provided by them. They were locals themselves and had put The Cottage forward as a recommendation. It really was a delightful way to spend a Friday business lunch.

I came here for my first date with my boyfriend, and food was amazing. Service even better. Drinks were also delicious in creative. We both really enjoyed the food here and there was like three years ago. Can’t wait to come back and visit this place. I’m so excited to come back here again

This place is popular one so I was expecting tasty food. The steak we ordered was burned and not so nice. Atmosphere is lovely

Fantastic place, good food, decent selection of wines.however, the highlight of the night was our server (short blond hair girl) which made the night really pleasant and enjoyable! It's very hard to find such a good service around Sydney

We dined at the Cottage for a special occasion as a group of 8, and thoroughly enjoyed our evening. The food was excellent, and the staff were really pleasant and helpful.
It was as good as always - we’ll be back again soon.

The venue is great, just a shame you can't book outside and we are really missing oysters on special like you did last year!

Simple menu, good food (chefy yet inviting), good atmosphere (mostly ppl from the local area in casual clothing), nice surroundings (trees, lights on a terrace)

We had a fabulous Christmas lunch for a party of 7 and chose the set $75 menu, which was delicious, and the service was great.

Lovely place for brunch yesterday- friendly efficient waiter and food was delicious. Definitely recommend.

The Cottage is wonderfully relaxing - everything from the great service and ambience to the delicious menu and cocktails. A great place for catching up with either a friend or two, or a larger group.
