The Cellar Restaurant reviews
67Staff very friendly & surroundings very nice. Meals were delicious & at a fair price for the area. Great location to shops.
Went here 9 months ago was lovely. HOWEVER made a booking 4 weeks advance called 3 hours b4 booking to confirm reservation on the advise from a local shop only to be told by owner we are closed due to termite infestation! I mentioned it would have been wonderful to have been given the courtesy of a phone call to advise they were closed. Thanks so much. Don't rate at all now. Last minute meal at McDonald's due to late notice was much better thankyou.
We have done this before. New menu and even better the second time. Food was superb with excellent wines and great warm toasty fire. Loved it.
We came for lunch and the menu is completely different from the dinner menu. The food was cafe food at best but the staff were lovely.
Food was well prepared and presented. Good value. We had a table by the fire which was welcome on a cold day.
Had a lovely family dinner at the Cellar Restaurant twice during the Easter long weekend. The food was delicious, beautiful scenery around the restaurant and lovely staff. A must if you’re in the area.
Amazing food, Great service the waitress was very nice and friendly and very knowledgeable on the food.
My husband and I really enjoyed the evening.
Highly recommend this Restaurant.
Definitely coming back!
Beautiful food, wine and exceptional waitress thank you so much for the service that you gave.
Last friday we went there for dinner with my mates family. We were expecting some good wine and tasty food. But I felt it was a let down by the quality of service and food.
1 of our guest was not hungry and wanted to settle with an entree but we were informed a main is a must or 2 entrees per customer, no probs
Then comes the entree, not all the same time but not much time difference between each plates, so can be ignored. While we were having the entree 2 of our guests were done and I was still having with half a plate still remaining, the waitress cleared their plates and there comes the mains. At this point we were looking at each other. Shortly she comes with my steak while I was still going with my entree. Annoyed at this point I told her Im not done with my beef cheek. The lovely wait staff goes to me like “Chef likes to send the food quick”. I was upset and I told her “plz take it back and bring it when Im done with the entree”. I was a bit rude to the lovely lady at that point, but she just took the plate and brought it back with a smile. I felt we were being rushed given the fact that there was no 2nd seating or we chew up their time. We entered at 6.30 and out by 8.30 or 8.45.
In regards to food, the market fish felt frozen for days and the lamb shanks was pulled lamb curled up in a roll. I’ve had better fish at fish and chips joint and lamb shanks not felt rite.
I can understand hospitality can be stressful at times, but people go with family to have some quality time and management could have been much better with their timings and providing fresh produce.
We decided to dine at this restaurant, as it had a good menu. However, when we were seated, the menu given to us did not have many dishes that were listed on the original menu. They had a special menu for Easter Sunday and then a Lunch Menu. On asking the wait staff, how big the portions were in the lunch menu, we were told they were mostly for sharing i.e. 1 dish would not suffice 1 person. So, we ended up ordering 5 dishes (which was an overkill). Whilst the prawn penne tasted good, the penne was over cooked. The roast chicken was a weird looking square block of minced chicken with tortilla chips on the side (totally unrelated combination) and it was tasteless.
All in all a disappointing experience.
I came in last Saturday for some lunch while in the Hunter Valley and I was thoroughly impressed with The Cellar Restaurant. As I walked in, I was acknowledged right away and asked where I would like to sit.
I ordered the sirloin steak and grilled vegetables. The steak was cooked perfectly the way I like it and the vegetables were absolutely delicious. Also the prices were reasonable for the quality of food served. The staff and owners were very accommodating and made sure everything was to my liking.
I will definitely come back again.
I’m long term pokolbin restaurant goer and frankly the cellar is lucky to get 2 stars. The service was pretty good but the food was mediocre at best. The lamb shank meal wasn’t very nice. It was pulled lamb you can buy at coles made in to a roll? !? My partner left a far bit of her beef meal as she could have done better at home. Won’t be going there for a while.
Quite disappointing… starters were over cooked and I couldn’t finish my main as it was unbearably sweet. The service wasn’t really there either to check whether everything was ok with the food. My partner’s steak was good (but maybe shouldn’t have been served with a cold frittata) and we had a decent bottle of wine
Food wasn’t nice, was waiting forever in between main and desert, overpriced. I’ll be generous and give 2 stars
I understand that the small print in the email was not read correctly, by us, i take that on board The food was not bad, but the degoritary way the head sherbang spoke to us and about another couple at a different table spoilt the whole atmosphere of our outing. Would not recommend this place at all.
The service was very good. The only problem was that my sirloin steak, which I’d ordered as medium, was undercooked. It was medium rare, with parts of the last quarter (which I didn’t eat) looking raw. My wife’s 12-hour Black Angus, also ordered as medium, was perfect. The Cellar is our “go to” restaurant in the Hunter, and will remain so despite this.
The restaurant is aesthetically very pleasant. The service was very good. The food was, for the most part very good, however I was served the duck with bokchoy which was almost impossible to cut into with cutlery provided.
A minor issue.
Our biggest problem was the obvious desire to move us on. We had a 2 course meal (entree & mail) with a bottle of wine and had only just finished our 1st glass when the main course arrived. If we hadn’t had to finish our wine we’d have been finished up in less than an hour.
Put a dampener on what should have been a lovely evening
The only bad thing about The Cellar is that we do not live nearby. Every little thing was perfect. Almost worth moving to the Hunter so we can visit more often. I have never experienced better anywhere in Australia or the UK. A very few UK restaurants are the equal but The Cellar is the best in the Southern Hemisphere.
We made a reservation for 4 tonight (6 January 2022) and utterly disgusted they are still requiring proof of vaccination. We will never support a business who discriminates against anyone.our money has been better spent elsewhere, where there is no disgusting practices followed. This is NOT the Australia we want to live in and you should be ashamed.
We had the most delicious lunch here. The wait staff were very friendly and extremely accommodating. I had informed the restaurant of my dietary needs upon booking and the chef had prepared a special dessert for me to suit my allergies. We will definitely be back.
