The Cellar by Gilbert (Gilbert Family Wines) reviews
60Wow, what a great little winery with great, personalised service! Delicious wine tasting, good value for money and wonderful atmosphere. Highly recommend.
Gift was absolutely lovely for our tasting, she was exceptionally accommodating and made our large group feel welcome.
The wine tasting here is really a delight especially when you have someone who is cheerful, knowledgeable and passionate about their job. Overall like a couple of their wines and got a couple of bottles. Thank you to our host (a Asian origin lady) who was simply fantastic. Sorry we did not get your name!
The atmosphere is fun and relaxing. It was out last stop for the day and it was just nice to sit and relax here
Wonderful tasting, Jeremy was so friendly and knowledgeable. The wine is beautiful and the Lamb Harissa we ordered was perfect. A lovely setting.
Stopped by for a wine tasting and had an amazing experience. Great wines, excellent food and very good service. Plenty of seating inside and outside and dog friendly. We will definitely be back and would highly recommend stopping here
Service was outstanding. The wines are well worth a try with some really beautiful wines particularly the Rose and Riesling. However it is the service and staff that make the difference and you will end up buying more wine than you expected.
The setting of this cellar was lovely but I wouldn’t go back. Wines were not to my taste and the naturally sparkling wine was not drinkable. Lunch options were very limited. We were in a big group and our food came out at very different times.
Great place. Great platter, platter is a great combo with the sparkling and a brew.
Oops wife ate the platter before I had time to take the photo.
Good wine and that’s it. Not a great place to hang out with friends and family! Was handed the bill in 40 mins even before we finished having the drinks and food we ordered.
Glad we made a reservation as it was busy at lunch time. Really good selection of meals. Great staff, knowledgable and friendly. So good to experience these lovely wines in their home environment. Definitely visit Mudgee, and definitely go to Gilberts.
Very disappointing experience with one of the staff and reading the other reviews we clearly aren’t the only ones.
I wouldn’t put yourself through the experience, plenty of other very good cellar doors with friendly professional staff nearby.
Lovely place and the service was ok. They were very polite with us.
We did arrived the day before at 4 pm to be told the kitchen was closed (the website says they close at 5pm).
We were wanting to use our dine and discover vouchers and were told they were not taking these.
Just fyi if you were hoping to use these.
The cheese platter was nice but a little $$$.
Unfortunately I would not recommend.
Sorry to say.
Squeezed us in last minute over Easter. Amazing customer service, really welcoming and friendly. The home made platter and beer was tasty.
Beautiful setting but the lady greeting and serving shouldn't work in hospitality. Couldn't even crack a smile and her tone was appalling. There are so many other wineries and cellar doors with friendly and accommodating staff that you can visit.
My partner and I booked a premium tasting online and paid ahead of time. So many people recommended Gilbert that we left it to last on our trip thinking we would buy the most at our last destination. When we got there the lady serving us spent no more than 30 seconds pouring the wine and giving us 1 sentence about the wine before walking off. We arent masters of wine but we like to hear about the winery and winemaking process - just a little more so we know more about what we are drinking. It was all very very rushed. When we got to the last wine, she gave us a Shiraz instead of the Zinfadel, and when we asked whether we could try the Zin she insisted that was what she served when we saw the bottle and she herself had said it was Shiraz when she was pouring it. We didnt argue. I was the worst tasting we had and we didnt buy a thing. If you want a proper premium wine tasting experience I recommend De Beaurepaire, they could Gilbert a thing or two.
Had a wine tasting session here, would say the wine tasting arrangement is pretty steep compared to other wineries in the Mudgee region. $10 tasting pp for 5 wines which is only redeemable when you purchase 6 bottles of wine. The wines themselves were nice, but not my personal favourite. It is very much conviniently located next to a hotel/motel so can walk over if staying there.
Love the wine tasting experience and taster board. The staff served us very well, informed us of each wine we sampled and were very courteous. We had some kids with us and they were fine with that, the kids love the food and we love the wine. Great experience for the whole family, young and old.
I don't know what the wines are like because we weren't able to try them. Do not arrive with children. Rude lady greeted up by asking why we were there (her tone not at all welcoming) and when we said we would like to taste some wines she said to us that we could only taste wines at the bar, and that children could not be at the bar. No problem. My husband or I could have tasted wines while the other stayed away from the bar with our children. But it was clear from the staff member's tone that we were unwanted customers - so we left.
We went for late luncheon.
Gurwertztraminer was gorgeous. The platter was a full meal, everything fabulous.
Easy parking. Easy COVID check-in. Great venue.
We were told all their wines are dry. We enjoyed the wines so much we took home a couple of bottles. Nice cosy place but our wine tasting session felt a bit rushed cos they were about to close. We suggest booking 2 hrs before closing maybe for a good experience
