Tathra Bakery and Cafe reviews
32 Proper old school Mum and Dad bakery.
Dropped in and grabbed a pie and a pastry today. It was good.
Service was a bit slow but they were trying to train someone and it’s a family business so cut them some slack.
Would definitely visit again.
Ok food. Young guy being trained was good, but the overly micromanagement training style was uncomfortable. But I guess in the end, everyone's just doing their best. Coffee was pretty good.
My husband came in the shop to get some cinnamon donuts today they charged him $18 for six donuts when I called and asked for the right changed to be given they said it was his fault that he left the shop and started abusing me we are locals and have never had this kind of service
anywhere

Stopped at Tathra Bakery to buy lunch today. Despite being friendly and polite to the woman behind the counter, neither the friendliness nor the politeness was returned. She asked me prior to ringing my order up on the till "am I paying cash or card"
After replying "card" my order was quickly rung up to a total of $23.90. Assuming that the same amount was entered into the eftpos machine, I tapped my card and continued on my way. After returning home later today, I happened to log on to my online banking only to find that she had charged me $24.30.
People like this don't deserve to be in business. I definitely won't return.
We asked the guy if the apple turnovers were freshly baked today. He replied “yes we bake every day”. Guess what? Our apple turnover was stale. Don’t recommend
WOW! I just loved this bakery. Beautiful HOT pies, and I strongly recommend their Marsbar Cheesecake! It was so good, I had to go back again the next day! Friendly Staff also!
The standard meat pie was very tasty, hot and held together well. Able to eat it with one hand and not have the contents drip out of it. Cold drink. What more do you need?
Coffee hot enough for a pensioner, watery cappuccino that tasted burnt. Way way too hot. Cheesecake like some kind of gelatinous tofu. If it wasn’t for the topping no flavour at all. Base was horrible. Threw the coffee and the inedible base in the bin. Not worth the stop IMO.
We had pies and drinks and coffee.over expansive for a bakery.like 5.50 for a small bottle of lemonade.terrible coffee.cannot begin to say how unhappy I was with everything. Sorry not happy
Pie was average the vanilla slice was nice.rude service from the Asian lady they sell sandwiches and rolls i tried to purchaced a plain bread roll as well for my 2 year old son, she refused to butter the roll how hard is it really
Today was the second time I had been here in the past week but based on the way I was spoken at, will not be going back even though I am local. Rude service from the lady making my coffee.
Very average customer service and not willing to make a coffee as she had turned the coffee machine off.
Best baked custard tarts on the coast. Every time we come to Tathra we stop in. The owner and her staff are fantastic?
Friendly and neat little bakery selling everything you need plus good coffee opposite Tathra beach. Note it is cash only.
If I could put 1 star I would, the lady there is absolutely rude, for a holiday spot one would think you would get friendly service but not here avoid, NEVER AGAIN
The "hit & miss" that destroys the faith in small local businesses.
Curry pie and chicken salad wrap were sub-standard / disappointing, customer service was blunt and we felt unwelcome as travellers. NO EFTPOS in 2021.
Nice spot. They are cash only though. A good range of traditional bakery items. Tasty rock cakes
Wonderful doughnuts! But there are all sorts of goodies on offer, the staff were very friendly, there were plenty of locals enjoying the outdoor seating and such a beautiful location.
Very nice salad rolls for $8. I had the chicken then decided to try the ham. Well worth it. The best rolls I have had for a long time from a bakery. They also had a good selection of sweet treats not just the run of the mill slices most “bakery” shops offer these days. Only downside is no EFTPOS.
Local bakeries can be a lottery: you never quite know what you’re going to get. In Tathra, the local guy, Tathra Bakery & Cafe, is a pie shop, a sandwich shop (they make three types of sandwich, and they all involve salad), and a bakery. They turn out a range of different breads plus a collection of classic Australian treats running from custard tarts to apple pies to vanilla slices and glistening chocolate eclairs, with nothing much over the five buck mark.
The cheese and bacon pie ($5.50) with a smear of tangy tomato sauce ($0.40) is a good, honest pie with hunks of steak in its thick gravy. It comes without a pie tin, but is blessed with pastry firm enough to contain the piping hot contents. I was pretty delighted with it until I tasted the even better potato pie ($5.60). The crusty golden dome hides the smoothest white-pepper spiked potato mash you can imagine, making for a truly wonderful pie.
While the sourdough here didn’t quite win me, the other must-eat is the kalamata olive baguette ($6). I suspect the hidden hand of another South Coast local business, Contadino olives, in these big juicy kalamata olives, kept nice and moist in the baguette’s soft white interior. We enjoyed ours with cheese from Central Tilba that was flavoured with Mystery Bay kelp, keeping it all in the NSW South Coast family.
