Taste of the Country reviews
82Horrendous service. Over an hour for food. When received it waitress accidentally slipped poached eggs on me. Accidents are fine but they both walked away without saying sorry or bringing napkins. Not going to wait another 1.5 hours for poached eggs so walked out with refund. That was the easiest part of the mediocre experience.
The Minestrone soup was excellent, and the coffee was very good. The service was both friendly and efficient. Many interesting knick knacks for sale.
The food was average as it lacked much taste. The portions were also small and overpriced for what you get.
Went to this restaurant as part of a wine tour. Paid $25 for a BLAT, chips and a ginger beer.
I went with a group of 12. Everyone, ages range from 21-40+ years old, from different ethnic backgrounds, said the food was tasteless and could not finish their meals. I felt bad to waste food, but there were about 10 potato chips. We were actually meant to get curly fries, the burger was so bland and the bacon was so dry and tough to chew.
Overall the food was overpriced, completely tasteless and not worth visiting.
My friends also ordered a garden salad and a "spicy" burger, neither of which was finished or had flavor.
The location and view were great. But food is disappointed. We ordered scrambled egg and toast with bacon, and chicken sandwich. They comes with the toasted sandwich bread (the soft sandwich loaf). Maybe local residents prefer this bread rather than sourdough or crusty bread. Bacon is probably pre-cooked and left for dry for too long, which some parts is too dry, some parts have not touch the fry pan at all. Besides i feel the bacon is smelly same like the discount bacon in the supermarket.
Staff were very friendly service was good. The food was very nice with more than expected in a serving.
The two lovely women bussing tables was the best thing at this place. Thank you for your service!
A mice little Cafe, but when ordering savoury mince, never expected to have grated cheese or a slice of bacon, the mince was only hot in the middle, my friend's poached eggs were cold, think the sauce was kept in the fridge, it needed to be heated. Even so the meals had taste.
Worst customer service ever. The front lady staff was rude (one with the scarf) and the other staffs were very unwelcoming. The food was ok but the staffs can do better with their behaviours. Ruined my mood and day.
The perfect country cafe. The staff were friendly, food was reasonably priced and served quick. Very cosy especially near the fireplace.
Lovely staff and service which is becoming harder and harder to find these days! Thank you for your kind attention. We enjoyed our scones and tea.
One of the best cafe foods I ever had. Unique decorations and good portion of fresh food.amazing home cooked style food
Breakfast here was a delight. Staff were very friendly and happy to accommodate changes in the order. The food was a large serving and delicious. Everything came out fresh and hot. We sat outside as the weather was nice. We went on a Saturday morning and it was fairly quiet and easy to find parking and get a table without a reservation but I can imagine in peak times it would be very busy. I would definitely recommend trying out this Cafe whilst in the Hunter Valley region.
This cafe is a gem - the decor is super cute, and the menu is awesome and the serving sizes are massive. Loved it so much the first day, we went back again the following morning! The Eggs Benedict and Big Breakfast are both 10/10.
Nice coffee, we were persuaded to have scones as well which wasn't a bad thing. Only downside is the pesky birds.
Food was delicious (yum yum yum), i thoroughly enjoyed it! I devoured my plate, the food also came out really quickly so that was cool. Overall staff are very lovely & it’s a great place! I’ll be back here next time i come to the Hunter. MOOOOO
Food was nice, service was quick.
Only issue was the lady taking the orders. She was a bit all over the place. We went to place 2 separate orders on the same table. After the first order - we were about to place the second order, but she took a phone order, then sat a table, then came back to take our order. When we mentioned we were on the same table as the person who ordered a few minutes ago, she became a bit irate and very frazzled. Things went from manic but pleasant, to cold and frustrated.
Aside from this, the place was great.
A truly wonderful lunch with excellent serving sizes, a great kids menu, delicious food and amazing service! Louise has run Taste of the country for over 23 years and her customer service is exceptional!
We will definitely be back!
Stopped in just for a coffee but ended up having some delicious scones as well, they were so good I'll stop in for more next time I come by this way. Yum!
The ploughman lunch was generous and delicious. Would highly recommend the Taste of the Country for their homemade meal good for 3 people
