Taronga Zoo Sydney reviews
67 Worst support service ever!
We had gotten cashless card for 50$ and didn’t use it because it was already empty when we came to food market. We tried to solve this situation with stuff but they told us to write to support.
We have gotten only 1 answer from support where they didn’t even tried to understand what was the point of our problem. They just told that we spent money and that’s it.
We kindly asked to check cameras and wrote few letters after all but there was only SILENCE instead.
I’m really disappointed about your service. It’s almost 1 month after first letter.
The zoo was a nice experience (took the ferry from downtown Sydney to the zoo directly) and was a large layout to walk through. I have been to better zoo’s in the past, and I expected to have more interactive experiences with the kangaroos for the price tag ($90 AUD for 2 adults). But this was nice to see the koalas up close!
This is by far the best zoo I’ve visited. We did the koala close encounter and it’s something I’ll never forget. The animals are all housed in lovely enclosures that feel natural. It feels like the animals have a good quality of life here.
If you're looking for a Zoo to visit while in Sydney and not travel to the outskirts, this is it.
Taronga Zoo was a great experience for me because I love going to zoos (there are 0 good zoos in my country). They have a good selection of animals endemic to Australia/PI (e.g. Platypus, emu, cassowary etc) and popular in other countries (e.g. Giraffe, tiger, lion). Most of the animals had good enclosures but I think the animals in the Africa section can benefit from bigger enclosures. Upon research, I found that Taronga Zoo has been trying to improve their conservation and animal welfare efforts so that's good I guess. I could be wrong though but hopefully the animals are taken care of well. I also thoroughly enjoyed the free Seal show as they teach the importance of positive reinforcement and cooperative care for taking care of their animals. They also have a great view of Sydney CBD.
We spent around 5 hours there and brought our own packed sandwiches and snacks. Ended up buying drinks though because we were thirsty from all the walking. They have promos if you book online so best to do that. Went there via Ferry from Circular Quay.
EDIT: For context, I'm from the Philippines and I've been to Taronga Zoo and Featherdale Wildlife Zoo just outside Sydney. Featherdale is farther, much smaller, but more intimate. Taronga is bigger with more animals but less interactive and educational.
I had an awesome experience. Highly recommended.
However the map provided at the information desk is a bit confusing.
An excellent park that requires some means of easy access, and the ticket price is expensive and exaggerated
It's normal for a zoo, but the ferry access from Circular Quay and the scenery are outstanding.
Always a great visit, good variety of animals.
Both the bird show and seal show are good fun, and the few times we have been they have changed little things to give us something new every time we visit.
Thinking about buying a yearly pass now, as we as a family enjoy it so much.
Lovely family outing but food/coffee places not open til 10am/11am and not alot of choice.
Nice zoo, not really huge, but well laid out. There are some hilly bits which might be harder for older generations.
Views over Sydney are tremendous.
Animal exhibits leave a lot to be desired. Bush Turkey's galore but can't say any animal enclosure was a hit. Poor form for a World Class exhibit. It's an Aussie embarrassment
I visited taronga zoo 13 yrs ago. I must say things have really changed not as good as before. Less animals to see more concrete and glass. The animals either hidden away or just not there lol.
It's a great zoo in an amazing location! Really annoyed at the supposed limited numbers due to Covid. The place was packed and on arrival we were told we could not get on the cable car as it had exceeded capacity? That doesn't seem like the numbers were capped to me.
In my 18 years, I have never been to Taroonga zoo and my opinion about the price of $49 is way too exorbitant and really not worth that kind of money and there are far better places where you get that worth of a true Zoo or a Safari Lucky there's a gondola that' takes you to the top and this is included in that price of a ticket which is a saviour and it's a nice experience in my view and a map without which you will be lost and just be going around in circles Not to forget another $22 for the parking which is for all day another joke and can't justify that
Really bad customer service we couldn’t visit the zoo because of the pandemic and the zoo wouldn’t extend the tickets.
Amazing experience, lovely views of the city amidst the zoo animals. Love the zipline tour, which was a 1st time experience at a zoo taking across different encounters.
I have always been a fan of Taronga Zoo since I visit it the first time in 2010! With Covid 19 times there are no value for money! The only nice thing about the Zoo is the seals show, due to covid they have canceled some of the shows and even arriving early is not good enough to catch the sky safari! The number of empty enclosures is really very high. Very few animals probably the lowest number of animals I have ever seen in a Zoo of this size in Australia. No sun shade for the families and elderly, also some of the staff at the food store are very very rude!
If the Zoo wants to comply with capacity limits because of Covid which I support they should not over sell the number of tickets per day! It is unfair to leave it to peoples luck if they are able to line up for more than 30 minutes before every show to be able to get in or turned away if capacity limit reached. What also disappointed me was the bad design of some enclosures specially the African lion! You could barely see any animals and the glass parts are small in size with so many blind spots!
Not recommended until changes to the way they manage visitors during covid pandemic!
Great place year round to visit - kid friendly, lots of animals birds and reptiles to see, also helpful staff
Its great for staying over at the retreat. It allows to enter the zoo anytime while the zoo is open. From sky rail to the bottom and using ferry services to go anywhere around the harbors, bays, beaches. Great time for kids and and young family.
Honestly disappointed at the amount of animals not in their enclosures. Views are great and it was a nice walk. Price is fine but don't expect to see any animals you may have come for. Also.no sunscreen for sale? Not like skin cancer is an issue in Australia or anything.
