Sydney University Sports & Aquatic Centre reviews
68"New" since I lived and studied nearby a long while ago, I've visited a couple of Sundays recently to watch my youngest kiddult play basketball
Rude, very unfriendly and unhelpful font desk staff. Locker rooms are not properly ventilated/cleaned.
My friend walked in today and was stopped by staff! They told my friend over the phone that the pool closes at 5! Really disappointing!
The facility is fine. But I came here to complain on Sydney Uni’s communication over who the courts are allocated to. Last time our Kendo regular training, always upstairs indoor, was changed to the tennis court when we got there without any notice in advance. Turned out it was a miscommunication that none of the staffs there know why we weren’t told that we are moving to tennis court that day. I thought it was a careless mistake and one SUSF guy with suits came to apologize to us.
The thing is it’s not a rare mistake it seems. This is the second session of our social volleyball scrims starting at Week 10 semester 2 2022, and twice in a row we come here at SUSAC (the venue we are told to use), have people using the courts, ask them if we are using SUSAC here for volleyball, they say yes and we stay, wait, and then it turns out again we are moving to Arena (the other gym). It seems like SUSAC staffs confused two volleyball trainings together, one is the social one the other is a girls team one. Happening two weeks in a row is unjustifiable and very frustrating and left us all feeling disrespected.
That one time with Kendo club I thought they learned and believed it due to their superficial apology. But it seems they are treating different groups differently? Just because we are casual volleyball players doesn’t mean we can take this thing every time. Do better, USYD.
Everything else here is good except for the desk staff. Kellie the aquatics manager is very rude even when I tried to sound friendly with her. She sighed, seems very reluctant to help and arrogant.
It's a good gym but very busy around 5pm, used heavily by students sitting and catching up on their social feeds at that time (best avoided). Towel use enforcement by staff is slack at busy times too. 7am it's no towel no train. Consistency appreciated please.
The pool is closing at the time I arrive and no one tells me until I'm already at the pool and about to start swimming? I thought the pool was open til 8 pm when I was kicked out at 7: 30 pm for water polo. I booked this in advance. This has happened twice where I've booked and called as to opening hours and arrive just to go back home. Terrible service and a TOTAL WASTE of my time.
Very friendly and knowledgeable Gym staff. Excellent equipment in a very clean and tidy environment
This is specific to the group fitness studio. They still have carpet in the studio and it often smells as it collects sweat and I honestly don't know how often it gets a deep clean. I mean you'd think since COVID, they'd be looking into ripping the carpet up and replacing it with proper flooring like all other gyms. The studio often isn't ventilated well and leaks when raining. So, extra gross! The instructors are great, just a shame they have to teach in such a gross and derelict room. This place needs a serious upgrade.
I love this sports centre.one stop shop for all kinds of activities in a nice and vibrant atmosphere with coffee shop and sporting gears mini market.highly recommend for young and middle age people.
Great selection of facilities for reasonable membership prices. Took 1 star off as the gym equipment is a little old and need some maintenance. However plenty of free weights and cardio equipment. Never have to wait for a cardio machine. Monday evenings are always packed in the weights section (as with most gyms) so may need to wait a bit for a cable machine if that’s your preference.
Very impressed yesterday at 5pm when the young female staff instructor who was on duty approached at least 3 different members working out without the required towel. She advised them politely they could hire towels, 2 listened respectfully, finished their workout at that point and left. Two more, both young guys, listened, one went and hired a towel, but the other didn't. Tonight at 5.30 he's here again on his own. No towel.
Syd U, pls keep asking members to use and hire towels, and pls put the more obvios signs back up.
Excellent pool. Gym staff are heaps friendly and helpful. Everyone goes above and beyond to help.
Remember to bring a towel. Towel hire is $5 unless you have the gold membership.
Special recommendations:
The treadmills, cycling machines, and elliptical all have TV's on them. You can apparently watch Netflix, but I prefer to watch the awesome visualisations of nature hikes all around the world. It's fun to try to guess where you are in each one.
They have great classes here. I love the spin, yoga, and core strength ones particularly.
If you are on fitness passport, you need to pay some additional fees to go to this gym, but it's totally worth it!
Great gym - joined while at uni and still a member 25 years later - relaxed atmosphere, knowledgeable and friendly staff.
Good range of well maintained equipment/ facilities. Staff are helpful, friendly, practical and always looking out to assist where they can. Started using both the pool and the tennis courts, equally well maintained.
Just joined a few weeks ago. The indoor Olympic pool has a depth up to 2.6m. Heated but still cool if one isn't moving. Staff are friendly. Class fitness room smells like feet but it has easy to use weights and straps and the smell goes away when one is trying not to die from the activity. Spin room is good and bikes are basic and easy to use. Weights room is large and although the equipment has seen better days, it still does the job. Lots of stairs but also ramps if required. No private shower cubicles in the gendered bathrooms and the lockers are a bit annoying. The team sport areas look like they should, but I haven't used them, so no opinion here. The cafe food is a bit disappointing- I was hoping for more healthy options but it's pretty much your standard uni cafe. The staff are friendly there as well, though.
Place is huge and seems clean. But the customer service and front desk ppl are all really rude and never answered my questions with every new enquiry. They are clearly young and entitled USyd students. Really rude and they kept misunderstanding my enquiries over the phone and email. You guys are the face of SUSF and should know better. Don’t bother with this sport and fitness centre.
Great indoor sports facility. Indoor Futsal and basketball courts, pool, squash, tennis and more. Parking can be tricky depending on time but got a spot in car park around 5pm on a weekday.
Excellent facilities but the woman on the desk letting people into the pool has a serious attitude problem. Very rude and angry. I won’t be coming back.
Very inclusive space, Wheelchair accessible. Had a great time playing wheelchair basketball will be back every Saturday.
