Sydney Theatre Company reviews
21The subject matter has varied, as does the quality of acting and production, but It's always an interesting night out. It really helps that it is in such a beautiful location.
Amazing, everyone should experience an STC play, in a great location and love the bar and restaurant as well.
This was a treat I shared with my daughter on a recent visit to Sydney. Wasn't enthralled to see the Australian Theatre company production of Fences but oh my was my mind changed. It was an excellent production. And the theatre was an excellent venue, wide comfy seats. A must see and a must visit.
We saw Madama Butterfly there.it was raining, but everyone mostly wore poncho raincoats. It will be great to have a covered venue one day. However, it was a fabulous venue with a difference and spectacular views over Sydney Harbour and Opera House. We got aboard a water taxi, which apparently is cheaper at $15 (2023), just for these shows, to go across the Harbour to Circular Quay. A long line for taxi's, but they coped well under the circumstances these days with staff shortages, etc. The volunteers helping for the Theatre Company did a fantastic job. Thanks.
Very nice theatre that is clean, has scenic views and with helpful staff. Floating on the wharf, there's a bunch of other theatres, studios and things to watch.
A quck snack at the bar prior to a show was very ho hum. Very dry, unpalatable prepacked sandwiches and minisculue vietnamese rice paper roll. Come on STC the punters deserve better.
Saw The Goat in Adelaide then saw HUBRIS & HUMILIATION in Sydney.such excellent production
We go here regularly and I really enjoy the atmosphere before you even enter the theatre. Staff are always incredibly helpful. The box office is quick and the bar at the end of the wharf has probably one of my favourite views of the harbour
Very nice facility / Auditorium, The seats were comfortable too.
The performance was also great.
Went to Sydney to see RBG: Of Many, ONE at The Wharf. It was a wonderful production. A beautifully crafted theatrical experience. Heather Mitchell was a Tour de Force. A great evening. Thank you
Just need to say how easy it was to buy a gift voucher! It’s so refreshing when things run so smoothly.
Thank you.
And a long time fan with consistent quality shows.
Loved coming to a show at the STC. The staff were all fantastic and friendly. We parked easily on the street and had a lovely meal.
Arrived this evening and was brusquely told two steps out of the Uber as I was taking my mask off that they were mandatory in the theatre “to protect the actors”. Of course I don’t mind putting it on but the request can be made respectfully. Treating people like criminals when they are behaving in accordance with government guidelines and your organisation has decided to do something different is a poor way to treat your patrons. It really detracted from the work of those involved in the production. The staff involved should be counselled on appropriate behaviour.
Saw White Pearl Thursday night. Highly critical of speech clarity. Dialogue substantially incomprehensible to me. Girls shouting unable to be understood. I was in the second row from the stage. Why was there no PA operating that would allow the actors speak more normally, forcefully but not shouting. Articulation I would consider to be essential to our being able to understand dialogue. Attempting articulation while shouting I would consider a particular skill. Indeed very difficult. I think I detected accents in some actors. The only section I heard clearly was the toilet scene where the two actors spoke loudly but more normally that ended with them breaking out in laughter. I would end my remarks by honestly admitting that I am 81 yrs old. I wear hearing aids but I have no trouble understanding normal human speech for example i have no trouble understanding speakers on radio without my aids in. I think that this is an issue that any director of stage production must take into consideration. No stage production is enjoyable if the speech cannot be understood. White Pearl could be heard but not understood.
Beautiful modern theatre on a historic wharf. The facilities are clean and minimalist. Seating is fantastic, tiered so excellent uninterrupted view to the stage. Parking available on Hickson Road. Elevator access from the wharf to the elevator. The box office located near entry point at street and the theatre is located at the end of the wharf.
With staff shortages the cafe was overworked, and late serving food, but the show was good, though started late. Hopefully next time will be better
Came to STC to see Julius Caesar. I'm sure it was a great performance but due to the terrible view from full-priced seating with no mention of obscured view, I didn't see most of it. Discussed the matter with the box office team, who were polite and understanding, however very little was offered to compensate. Buyers beware!
Terrific venue, great performance in Julius Caesar and just a very pleasant ambience all round.
Excellent theatre located in a gorgeous part of Sydney. The Julius Caesar production was well produced and the round stage enhanced the emotion of the audience towards the show.
Had tickets booked to two shows that I had to cancel due to new restrictions on overseas visitors (I was going to see the shows the day after my arrival).
The box office staff who responded to me were polite, helpful and approved a refund immediately. The quality of customer service from the STC has been outstanding and will ensure I buy tickets again to future shows.
