Sydney Observatory reviews
34Many people come just in time for sunset. If you bring a mat, you can lie down and watch it comfortably. The sky over the Harbor Bridge is really cool at sunset^^
Even in today's technologically advanced world, when I saw the observatory's 1880s telescopes, I marveled at the science and rigor of the foundry industry of that era. Many related information came from a girl called Khushi; she was warm, polite and attentive. Her style of presentation was very lively and interactive. It was an unforgettable memory.
Most fascinating tour I had recently. When the dome opened, I started to understand why the astronomers can spend whole night there.
A great experience for the whole family. Plenty to see and very informative. Lots from a historical and scientific point of view.
Incredible views of the harbour and it wasn’t too busy when we went on the weekend and the staff are great. Free entry and open from 10am to 5pm
If you are looking for a unique date night, this is it. A cheeky drink beforehand, a night of staring at stars and looking through telescopes, and you have yourself a winner.
Awesome place in the city. Perfect for a picnic with a friend. Also a great place to read a book. Picturesque view. Visiting this place makes me very happy. It is so beautiful, quiet and peaceful. Love it so much. One of my favorite spots in Sydney CBD.
Night tour. If weather changes suddenly, which can happen within an hour of the booking that you normally make a few weeks or so prior to the night. You can’t cancel under 24hrs, and get no refund. Rude Customer service.
We booked about 2 weeks before was very expensive for 3 adults and a child, we drove over an hr to get there the day came, it was clear all day so we didn’t cancel. The night came and still clear. Within an hour of the tour clouds came in. The tour guide just showed us a few Sydney buildings and the bridge with the major telescope. You normally have to book weeks or days in advance as they sell out.
The tour guide just laughed it off the the clouds and that we had to now do this, like it was nothing, probably because he was getting paid and had seen the planets with the major telescope 500 times before, so was no big deal for him. Unlike us who first time there and were really looking forward to see them.
It was sooooo disappointing as we were really looking forward to seeing the moon and planets.
Little nephew was really into astronomy and was very disappointed and not happy like all of us.
We rang the next day asking for a refund or just some replacement tickets as we didn’t receive what we went there for and did everything we could with watching the weather etc prior. The lady on the phone at observatory bluntly refused and said no for a refund. We said “can we get a manager or managers phone or email to ask them? ”
She just scoffed at the idea and said “yeah, good luck with that, that’ll never happen”. Very rude she was.
We were always polite throughout so her manner was very inappropriate and unprofessional.
So upon a very disappointing night, driving far, costly for us, we aren’t rich. To then get that kind of rude customer service the next day asking for a full refund or another set of tickets even, to be scoffed at like that. Definetly would not recommend this place at all. Customer service is horrible and non existent.
One gets to see the amazing view of Sydney Harbour Bridge. The uniqueness of this place is you will be at the same height as the height of Bridge.
A nice and tiny museum where you can see many valuable equipments and pictures. Maybe it's more suitable to go at night for star watching.
Sydney Observatory is an incredible, smart and amazing place with lots to do and great photo taking opportunities. Top spot!
Fantastic place for travellers to Sydney and locals to. Right near the fantastic Sydney Harbour Bridge.also. >>>

The S. H. Ervin Gallery is a major public art institution housed in the historic National Trust Centre in Observatory Park, Sydney. "The gallery's exhibition programme is designed to explore the richness and diversity of Australian art, both historical and contemporary, and present it in new contexts. ". "Unquote"
Interesting place to visit. A great viewpoint for Sydney Harbour. The park in front of the observatory is worth the walk alone. Interesting history, but a lot of the exhibits were undergoing repairs and there were not many staff there that could help answer questions, but that is understandable considering that there is no cost to wander through and look at everything. An absolute time warp building that looks like it has stood still in time.
Interesting museum that recounts the story of the astrologist and their development in Australia's lands, although is very interesting it's only one hour tour.
We went during the day and it was lovely. Heaps to look at including a Astro photographic competition. The grounds are well kept and our young kids were well entertained for a long while. It’s a bit of a walk from The rocks but honestly not too far. The staff were really friendly and helpful also.
Long time wish to see the Observatory. Entry is free but you need to register to enter. Can be done online easily. You have access to the grounds and the buildings which is a sort of museum for the Observatory. There are no shows in the nights due to covid 19 and you are required to wear masks inside the buildings.
This is a must visit location for anyone interested in learning about the history of Observatories and how they operate. There are plenty of educational resources available for anyone interested in gazing up at the heavens.
Did not visit the observatory itself but the views of the harbour are amazing. Perfect spot for a picnic
What an interesting place in the heart of the city! Amazing historic building in good conditions. We watched the ball on its roof top going down at the time.
You have to walk on agar stairs to get to this building.small exhibition center but free of charge
An excellent but slightly out of the way Sydney treasure. Some wonderful bits of history, astronomical models and paraphernalia. Can't wait to get there for an observation night.
