Sydney Fish Market reviews
60First, my wife invited me here, thinking this was just a market selling fish, but it turned out that inside it was selling fresh fish that could be cooked straight away and some were already cooked, we just had to enjoy it, at that time I was also confused about where to eat because it was crowded, turned out to be out, next to the market, right on the seafront, there was a place to sit to enjoy our food
Love the food and interesting enough no smell like the usual fish smell.careful of the birds
Very busy, incredible place.but beware some items have been cycle frozen, i've eat a king crab who was only mush.
A Genuine Experience: 7.5/10
Our day started at a comfortable 9: 30 AM, taking a short taxi ride from our stay on Haymarket Street to the Sydney Fish Market. The trip was quick and we noticed there was plenty of parking available, which was reassuring for those planning to visit by car.
As we stepped in, we were greeted by a fresh oceanic aroma, a clear indicator of the freshness of the seafood available here. The place had a vibrant yet easy-going atmosphere, with a wide variety of seafood options that seemed to be freshly caught, ready to be explored by both locals and tourists alike.
We ventured to try a variety of dishes, including pre-cooked options and those prepared to order. While the seafood was undeniably fresh, we found that the taste didn't quite reach our expectations. The presentation was simple, perhaps too much so, leaving us wishing for a bit more flair and flavor in the preparation.
A highlight of our visit was definitely the Sydney rock oysters. They were a treat to the palate, offering a fresh and authentic taste of the ocean. It's a must-try for anyone visiting, a true standout in a place that felt welcoming to tourists and seafood enthusiasts alike.
Yes, it is a popular spot for tourists, but it maintains a genuine and lively vibe, making it a great spot for everyone. It's not just a market, but a place where you can experience the true essence of Sydney's seafood culture.
In conclusion, the Sydney Fish Market offers a straightforward yet rich seafood experience. Whether you're a local or a tourist, it's a place where you can enjoy good food without much fuss. And don't forget to try the Sydney rock oysters; they are indeed a highlight not to be missed!
Great place to go for buying or just looking at the amazing variety of seafood. You can also grab a quick lunch there.
Of course this is a wonderful place still. Even the exorbitant parking prices don't entirely put me off though they do reduce my visits. Great fruit market also. And of course great restaurants.
Lots of yummy food!
Prices are not that low but you can find lobster, salmon and other interesting things to try!
The big problem here is finding a place to sit! In addition to the birds that are flying over the tables outside and taking food from the unsuspecting! Lots of tourists around here and parking is tricky.
A place where you can eat fresh seafood,
There are many stalls to choose from,
Different types of seafood can be found here
Would give negative star if possible. Very hard to find parking around there. Their seafoods are overpriced and not very fresh. Yall need to realize its a tourist destination. I rather get my seafoods from cabramatta.
Still one of the best Seafood hubs you can eat at. Shop around as prices and quality differs. Eating outside means you are at risk to be swarmed by birds.
So fresh, tasty n cheeper than fish shop. U can buy soy sauce but own soy sauce n wasabi would be better I think. And take a seat, enjoy sashimi.
If you like seafood this is THE place! There are enough shops to make sure there is a lot of variety and prices are competitive. The bonus is there are some really nice walks/picnic spots closeby (Darling Harbour, Potts Point, Glebe Foreshore etc). A great way to spend a weekend morning.
Had a great few hrs walking around the market and tried a few of the meals available. Got some great fish for meals later.
I’ve been a local for a number of years.
The transformation and the relocation of Sydney Fish markets is very exciting!
It is long overdue for an overhaul!
But I have a lot of meaningful memories growing up, as a child would go down on the weekends early in the morning grabbing chicken from the poultry store, grabbing a croissant from the bread shop and fish and chips from Nick’s seafood.
Would finnish off with a gelato and grabbing a few fruits from the fruit & veggie shop!
Great experience. Food was literally out of the sea. Good vibes for a casual day out. Check out Peter's for the Salmon, the salt and peppers sqiud and the fresh as oysters
Always a must in Sydney. Always the best fish at great prices. You can even get Zucchini Flowers
at the Fruit & Veg shop.
It's the best that Sydney has to offer for Seafood. The birds are annoying when you sit outside whilst you eat the yummy seafood, so I highly recommend to sit inside.
Great place to eat seafood and sashimi. You can also find wine, beer, groceries and dessert here.
Fresh oysters, sea urchin, fresh bread, a bottle of dry white and sitting outside - what more do you need for a perfect lunch.
Busy place, full of visitors and, sadly, more expensive than it used to be. God knows how much they'll charge when they move across the Bay. Only for very patient and well-off seafood lovers.
