Suzuya reviews
72Excellent Japanese restaurant on a good location - just in front of a Surry Hill light rail station!
Really great spot, huge servings, extremely helpful staff and an overall really nice vibe. The sashimi salad was so fresh and delicious and a really generous serving size, one of my dining partners got the banquet which was great to try a variety of options and not too expensive at 45 dollars. I would highly recommend this spot if you’re after a BYO japanese moment
Family friendly restaurant serving Japanese crowd pleasers. Food is pretty average, but they have a decent range of hot and cold sake.
The serve is generous. We have ordered 2 tempura and 1 katsu with 1 gyoza for 4 person. Complimentary agetashi was given. The overall waiting period is around 30-40 mins. A little bit long for first customer to arrive in the store at 1800. Reservation is recommended. The restaurant location is just across the Lightrail station. A must to visit if you love katsu and tempura
The first time I came here I was so shocked it’s amazing.
Taste is better than Japanese restaurant in Japan and they are very kind and professional.
All chef are Japanese experienced masters.
I recommend 100%.
Thank youuu.
Definitely the worst Japanese restaurant I've ever been to. Don't go there.
The fish was really low quality, the fried chicken was disgusting and the beef teriyaki smelled as tainted meat.
Enormous serves of excellent food friendly service but so noisy almost impossible to have a conversation
A standard Japanese restaurant with a variety of selections in hot and cold dishes. Would highly making a reservation, or else you are likely not getting a seat walking in. We ordered the sashimi, tempura, salad, beef, and udon for share. The most memorable was the tempura corn as it has a corn tempura, which I never tried before.
The food is definitely very good. Portion sizes are pretty decent too. The staff are really friendly and service is great. Definitely need to make a reservation ahead of time. It's very crowded
If I could give a negative review this would be -5 stars. From the beginning to the end it was an awful dining experience. If you like japanese food, simply don't go there. The service was also the worst, they just throw you the food at your table without asking if things are alright (surely because they know they serve disgusting food but won't do a thing about it).
Note to the restaurant: you are a shame for the whole hospitality industry and for japanese gastronomy.
This place was ok. It is authentic Japanese food but for me, it didn’t quite hit the spot. That said the portions are fairly large. Pricing is around mid range. Staff were friendly are tentative. Very easy to access too as it’s located right in front of the Surry Hills light rail stop.
Very generous portions and the quality of the food is excellent too. The service and ambiance were great. A must-visit place
Great Japanese food. Sashimi salad was amazing. Friendly, fast service and casual but hip vibe. Get there early last orders are around 8-8.30pm. BYO wine only (they have beers, wine and sake on the menu too).
Compared with any Japanese restaurant in Surry Hills, Suzuya beats them all as you get your money's worth. It's not overpriced, the serving size is substantial, the dishes are tasty, and the vibe of the whole restaurant is just chill - not pretentious like other fancy restaurants in the neighbourhood.
Highly recommend this place to any of my friends. Don't expect any fancy presentation and pompous marketing trickery- this restaurant serves you good food without burning your wallet.
Dining tip: For dinner, always make a reservation- as they get swamped with new and loyal customers. As for what to order, I highly suggest going with their dinner course. Experience Suzuya, that's all I can say.
Come here and get the $22 lunch special. You get a large portion meal which is great bang for your buck. Had the sushi set + teriyaki beef and it came with miso soup, rice, and agadashi tofu. Had to take away some for later as it was just too much. Fresh sushi and the beef was amazing!
I come here once a week.
You get so much value out of amount you pay for.
Sure, you can find better japanese restaurant if you are willing to pay more but I find it incredible how they can serve food at that price.
I love this place.
I ordered combination. The price is reasonable and Sashimi was delicious. However, poke katsu was overcooked and really hard to chew. I left some. That's the reason for -1 star. Staff were friendly.
The Lunch special is amazing for the price. High quality ingredients, really authentic flavours. You won't be disappointed.
The service was amazing and the food was delicious and full of flavour. Exactly what we needed on a cold night and, I, after a long day of travelling.
Side note: The servings are really big so if you don't eat much I'd suggest ordering an entré.
Lunch on Tuesday’s - Fridays are made better at Suzuya. For $20.90 you will get a feed that will give you a food coma. My favourite is the chicken katsu + sashimi lunch menu set.
It is just amazing value and is delicious.
You *MUST* try the lunch set menu for yourself.
