What a fantastic Private Hospital.
I'm a military veteran with 17 years service.
I was a nervous wreck before my admission however the staff were wonderful and quickly put me at ease.
Anyhow what I love about the program apart from being busy is the education you receive on how to manage your illness and I couldn't be more thankful to the Staff.
At the end of the day it's up to the individual and I'm living proof it works.
Thanks Team
Steve

I was a patient at St John Of God in Richmond in December 2022, participating in their 21 day inpatient detox for methamphetamine addiction. Fortunately for me, the entire cost of my stay was funded by the Department Of Veterans' Affairs, so yes, DVA White Cards are accepted here for payment. Finishing this program is a realistic and achievable thing - smoking is permitted in a smoking area outside, mobile phones are allowed, leave is permitted after 1 week, and most importantly - you are permitted plenty of free time to relax, unwind and clear your mind. Groups only run for 1 hour per day Mon - Fri so you won't be overly burdened during your stay. Unfortunately for me, the social worker here at SJOG (Harveen) failed to assist me with my request for a reference letter post discharge stating I had completed the 21 day program - this would have greatly assisted me in providing evidence to NSW housing services whom I was hoping to get assistance from. Failing to assist me by providing this letter meant my opportunities for community assistance were limited and caused me to struggle unnecessarily. Therefore I think it's pretty obvious that St John Of God offers next to no post treatment support for its patients. For this reason I would not consider staying at this hospital again as I believe that post-discharge support is of high importance, yet certain staff at St John Of God, in particular both the social worker and group psychologist, both completely disregarded.
Lastly - St John Of God hospital in Richmond is a Catholic run organisation which means it is indelibly stained with the multitude of horrific crimes that Catholicism has committed against humanity and God over the years. This alone is a very good reason to want to avoid staying here, and instead choose to stay at a hospital that's not only free of Catholicism but also provides you with some good support for when you actually discharge and go back into the community.

I was a patient a few years ago, been travelling well on the meds. Recently I had a manic episode (I'm out of it now THANKS TO MY GP) But still need a med adjustment and old Dr J Singh said he couldn't help me now, nor in a few months when I asked his waiting timeframe.really disappointed.
Hopefully I find another place to go, no wonder mental health issues in the Hawkesbury run rife.you refuse to help PAYING clients.

Took 2 weeks after sending my referral to be told no psychiatrists could see me, via email.

I stayed here for a month a few years ago. Still kinda traumatised by an incident that occurred so thought I'd leave a review. I was groomed by one of the security guards who lead me away from the cameras and touched me innapropriately. The hospital did nothing but feed me valium to calm me down and refused to do anything else about it. I had to call the police and report it myself. Hopefully things have changed since then and that people have more support when issues arise rather than feeding people heavy medication to shut them up.

If you love being judged, unsupported, abused and blamed for your mental health problems then come here! Really not acceptable to end up in an emergency department due to 3 days of blatant negligence from ALL staff. Completely unacceptable treatment of patients. If you want to be worse off in your mental health be sure to go here! Feel free to contact me regarding my appalling experience

SJOG Richmond is the fourth Mental Health facility I’ve admitted myself too in the last 11 years, and my experience here was the best by far.

I can only speak of the nursing staff in my particular ward, but the level of care, compassion, and attention I received is miles beyond any nursing support I’ve had before. Their duty went beyond our medication and obs. All nurses in my ward proactively checked in on me to see how I was doing, if I needed anything, while also researching resources for support for myself and my young family outside of hospital. If I need to head back to hospital again I’ll be asking to be in this ward.

The facilities are starting to show their age a little but this is a moot point as the new wards are currently being built, which, once finished, may turn SJOG Richmond into the best facility in NSW, if not Australia.

Do not consider going if you are a self funded patient and accessing your superannuation (no PHI) to receive support. There is no follow up, unless you do the following up. The psychiatrists appear to have a God like syndrome and do not care to support any patient who is trying to access their superannuation.

Thank goodness I found another facility which is interstate that had me assessed, supported and helped me lodge all my paperwork to the ATO within 72hrs. SJOG get your act together. You are meant to be supporting patients and throughout the entire process. It’s a big enough step to even ask for help when someone is so vulnerable and your procedures, lack of accountability and empathy only adds to the distress of patients. Thank goodness I withdrew myself from progressing any further.

If anyone from the complaints department actually wants to see the email trail please let me know. I would be more than happy to speak to someone so this doesn’t happen again to any prospective patient consideration attending your facility.

After being messed around & ignored for over 6 weeks by (The Hills Clinic) I called St John of God and was amazed at the difference immediately. I was spoken to straight away by an intake worker who gave me clear information on wait times and the intake process. I was treated with respect and felt important. The Hills spoke to me like I was scum. Within 2 weeks of that initial call I was admitted to St John of God at Richmond and from the 1st second I walked thru the doors I was supported & cared for to such an excellent standard!
Every professional there treated me with kindness, care and went to great lengths to ensure I was safe & comfortable to recover and heal. The entire program, including referrals for further support and ongoing outpatient programs on departure are second to NONE and ensure your care continues even after you go home. Honestly can't say enough about how wonderful this place is and give it the highest recommendation possible - would give it a million stars if I could.
Special mention to ALL the nursing staff on Xavier ward, who treat each and every patient like royalty and go above and beyond to ensure you are treated respectfully and with care, kindness & dignity. They work so hard yet are always available for you if you need them and do all this with a smile and a warm, beautiful attitude that makes your stay wonderful. Love you all

This facility has done more for me than any other place, I came here after being rejected from every eating disorder facility and even though it isn't within their scope of practice they do their best, the staff on each unit, the admin, gym instructors, therapists and kitchen staff have treated me with such kindness. I'm afraid as the care I need may be beyond the facilities capabilities but they still try and welcome me back even when I'm a complete mess.

I had an appointment with dr madugula today. Im 45 and have struggled with my mental health my whole adult life. I've never been really listened to. Not only did dr madugula listen he took me seriously. He took seriously where I was mentally and that I needed help and support. I've never felt the sense of relief I felt after seeing him. For the first time in a long time I feel like things will get better.

I tried to update my 5 star review and the whole thing got wiped and would not re-post. Another try with another account.

The facility is about to have a massive update with over 100 private rooms. It's just going to be amazing.

I've had several stays and acknowledge that there is much potential for things to go wrong in hospitalisations and in the mental health landscape generally. This upgrade signifies a new era for the hospital, an amazing and special place with many features of great beauty and historical significance.

Single rooms will give nurses the chance to better have quality one on one time with patients. So many positives.

While I hope I never need to be a patient again, there are events such as tours of Belmont House and the annual Art Day (which would be in hiatus at the moment) which means former patients can visit.

Well, I'm finally calling it. St John of God Richmond is private psychiatric hospital heaven. Or will be. With announcements this year that the facilities will be updated with over 100 single rooms (and the lack of single rooms was the only thing wrong with it), SJOG Richmond will become the greatest mental health facility in Australia.

As someone who has been banned twice (once was for trying to kiss the Andre Rieu lookalike nurse unit manager in Unit 2 and the other time was for confiding a sinister plan to tip an entire bottle of orange juice over the equine therapist to an unsuspecting psychologist), it's time for me to start mending those bridges. Because when that new building opens for patients I will be THERE!

I'm so excited! I do sympathise with the writers of the negative reviews and in no way negate their experiences. So much can go wrong in the hospitalisation process and mental health care landscape generally. But I want to feel the Hawkesbury country air in my face, wander through the stunning old mansion, sit in the groups run by the talented and insightful psychology team ONCE MORE!

We have had positive turnaround to what had started off to be a lacklustre experience in admitting my husband to SJOG. We are extremely grateful that the staff responded to our initial feedback, escalated it to the attention and care of experienced staff, suspended all judgement, intently listened to our concerns and efficiently worked with us to find suitable care for my husband. They were also very understanding and provided guidance throughout the entire treatment so that we could feel comfortable being a new experience for our family. As an inpatient, my husband found the staff, facility and activities very soothing in accomodating his recovery and as he comes to grasp with acknowledging and learning about his mental illness (bipolar). We are continuing outpatient treatment with SJOG and have never regretted persevering through the initial hardship in getting him the right help. Thank you!

Appalling service at emergency
No communication about being bumped shown the list multiple times
Aggressive staff at the counter
Possible broken ankle but told child’s injury wasn’t important
Will not be returning to this hospital!
It’s sad this is called healthcare

I am very disappointed with this hospital, my brother did the assesment and was accused he didnt want help with one substance but only the other. He is not mentally clear and obviously needs help he was only in hospital not long ago and was clean for 2 weeks.but because he didnt say what the assesor wanted to hear he was wrongly judged. Is the assesment done by a qualified person?
He should of been reffered to a Psyciatrist or an alternative or asked more information. Fortunately he was asessed today by another reputable private hospital and was accepted.
If someone is reaching out for help its important that they should be recognized obviously he made the first step to call St John of God he just required at least some steps or a program.

I recently spent 3 weeks here on recommendation from my Psyciatrist. From the moment I arrived till my discharge I was treated with kindness and respect from every staff member. The programme was manageable with daily classes and also meditation and yoga, craft and gym. The psychologists were kind and empathetic, and the meals provided to us were simply wonderful. I was naturally anxious about being admitted to St Paul's unit but all the nurses there were so warm and welcoming, I can't thank them enough. This hospital is a centre of excellence and I cant recommend it enough. Thankyou St John of God and Dr Jaspreet Singh for all you're doing to assist me.
