Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation - Amazing results!
And no cost this is a bulk billed treatment for depression.

I ask for a assessment to be made to my mental state to be told that my referral has been declined by your doctor. Pathetic excuse when we have so many mental health issues in our community. To be turned away when you are struggling mentally is pathetic. Not even worth a one star.

I'm not surprised by these reviews. I can't even get a person to speak to to ask a question. I can see the response is always that private doctors have the right to refuse service based in qualifications and needs of patients. 100 percent true, though I bet those people would love to know they need to look elsewhere, and possibly some direction on how to do it, rather than being ignored,

I’ve always told people I could handle my issues and just deal with it. Saying I’m fine or I’ll be alright. I finally worked up the courage to get help just for this guy to spend the whole session trying to discredit my issues. Didn’t offer any support or alternative reasons for what was happening. Just happy to cut the meeting short and get my money

Booking for an appointment at this practice was fairly easy and no trouble. The psychiatrist seemed very nice however he just basically told me everything I already knew and strayed away from the topic at hand.after this 1 hour appointment which I was told was only $200 before hand.cost me $433. It stated on the form that additional costs may apply, but $433 for an hour of nothing is utterly baffling. I understand that psychiatrists cost more due to more experience, however I will not be returning as this is ridiculous.

I have been seeing Dr Burhan for a while now and my experience with Dr Burhan has been different to other psychiatrist. I am used to psychiatrist not really engaging in the actual core of your problems more about writing scripts and sending you on your way. Dr Burhan always turns his chair and is completely engaged the entire time, he has taken time to explain how medications work he has opened my eyes to the root of my issues, because of him I went steps further to deal with my issues with counselling that he recommended. He genuinely cares about the therapeutic relationship and it took me a while to get used to that as I have not had this experience with other psychiatrists. He is honest and cares about his patients well-being. He thinks outside the box and thanks to him we finally found something that works for me after years and years of battling with depression. The receptionist are so lovely and always are so accomodating and quick to respond and do so much to help with appointments and queries.

Couldn't have asked for a better psychiatrist.
I was hesitant to go at first, but I have found it extremely helpful in steering my life in a better direction. I would recommend Dr Burhan to anyone.

Had an appointment today with Dr Burhan, he was great! Listened intently and gave great insight to why i was dealing with my mental health issues the way that i am. He gave me medication to try and deal with these issues and i got everything i was hoping for out of my first initial appointment. Will be happy to go back in 6 weeks to update and see progression. He showed extensive knowledge about my issues and was very helpful.

I have seen a few specialists psychiatrists and psychologists and can say that sometimes its not easy to find someone you click with. I have found a fantastic one here easy and to the point direct, no messing around which suits me perfectly.

Probably the biggest problem is the wait for a first appointment, that’s a sign of how good they are I suppose. Any psychiatrist around here worth seeing has a wait list to see them. But the wait is worth it for sure.

I know some people just want to make demands and get what they want from Drs, going around multiple Drs until they get what they want. When I get medical advice, I want to know what the specialist recommends not tell them what I want and try and make them go along with me. I don’t think the Dr at Shellharbour Medicine goes along with requests that are not appropriate so my suggestion is if your looking to just get tablets no questions asked then this isn’t the place for you. If your looking for a really experienced psychiatrist who knows their stuff and get help you get healthy and well, then all good.

Oh and can’t not mention how lovely the receptionists are. I’ve met three different receptionists at Shellharbour Medicine now and they’re all lovely and so helpful, they get busy though and sometimes you have to wait on the phone for an answer. I tend to email them now instead.

Thank you to all the staff, my life has turned around since I've been on the right treatment and it's all done with no drama and no stigma. Celebrating mental health and wellbeing, life can be tough, it's not like I would expect everything to be all good all the time in life, but mental illness on top of life is so often a resolvable problem, thanks for helping me. Great job!

At first when I was referred I thought it would be easy to make an appointment, well it was, expect the wait time was longer than I thought. The receptionist explained how the whole thing works and I got an appointment earlier in the end by being flexible with my availability - turned out good. I felt like my issues were urgent but since checking out on other forums I realise that other people's problems are much more serious. Anyway, I was happy to see an expert doctor who got to the point really quickly and didn't waste time telling me what the options were. Not always what I wanted to hear but it's better to have an honest opinion that is better for you than just getting your own way. I don't see the point of doctor shopping until you just get whatever you want. These guys know what they're doing, they're all experienced from what I've found out and my doctor has been a specialist longer than most. This isn't somewhere where you just get what you want because you've read on the internet that you have whatever condition. Since covid issues have hit hard I had to rearrange a bunch of times and I have to say, the receptionists are so good. I think the phones are crazy busy when the covid lockdowns happen and that's understandable. When you get through to someone they just sort things out and tell you what the options are. I found emailing was a lot better too, no waiting on the phone at all that way. The fees are annoying but every medical specialist is expensive and at least the appointments don't have to be very often, not like the other therapy with weekly or fortnightly talking costing a fortune. It's actually really good value when you can have a medication updated a few times a year and get completely better. It's better value than a lot of other health providers I seen over the years. It's a bloody shame that the Medicare rebate for rural has been dropped. With COVID and telehealth I used to benefit from that, but that's nothing to do with my doctor, medicare or some pen pusher bean counter in Canberra cutting services for rural folks is my beef. Highly recommend this place if you really want senior experienced psychiatrist medical advice and not some pushover doctor that will give you whatever illegal drugs you want. Appointments can be late but it's the same almost everywhere with doctors, actually this much better than most are. Recommend you contact them if you need a psychiatrist input, saved my life

I would only attend this practice if you would like to leave feeling worse than you what you did going in.

After years of mental struggle and finally finding the courage to follow through with the arduous process of being referred (including a 7 month wait list) I was left feeling belittled and ashamed of myself.
It made me feel defeated. I was in tears explaining my desperation for help he showed no duty of care. There were times where he actually scoffed and giggled at my concerns.

The Psychiatrist insisted that "people like me" were nothing but dramatic and refused to listen to what I had to say, he also stated that I just needed an attitude adjustment and to "try harder" while also cutting my appointment short. I was still expected to pay the full $200.00 of course.
He reluctantly agreed to write me a prescription for a medication that he deemed "A waste of time". If I wasn't worthy of being diagnosed why would I be offered medication? When I tried to fill the prescription the pharmacist pulled me aside and advised that the Psychiatrist had put it on a "private script" which made a $30.00 medication over $180.00. Which just shows how petty this man really is. Upon seeking another GP for another referral I was told that this particular Psychiatrist has a reputation for this behaviour.
I have since seen a MUCH more competent Psychiatrist and received the diagnosis, care, compassion, help and medication that I really needed.

I have also lodged a formal complaint with the HCCC. This kind of non-compassion is what results in people taking their own lives.
This is supposed to be a service that provides help and care to people in need and I saw nothing a-like.

I NEVER leave reviews, good or bad but this is totally necessary to save people the time, money and emotional damage that came with my appointment.

Heed this warning and ask to be referred elsewhere.
Such a shame.

A choice of senior and highly experienced psychiatrists and psychologists, I am very happy with the treatment. Much better, and no stigma or shame in getting treatment for a mental health problem.

Really lovely and good advice. Perfect medical care and efficient receptionist admin ladies. Haven't seen the psychologists here, I think they're good too from what I hear from others.

Thank you thank you thank you!

My only regret is that I didn't take my child to see this doc sooner. Changed my family's life. My son can finally function without ADHD getting in the way of his ability. So proud of my boy, and so thankful for the no fuss approach to treatment. Medication might not be everyone's thing, but it has changed our lives. Thank you!
