The ambience was pretty good, it’s a great area for young adults but being from Brooklyn New York and having a strong Caribbean background I did not taste or see an authentic Caribbean dish. I order a roti and out came something that doesn’t resemble a Trinidadian Style Roti at all. My girlfriend order a curry dish and she being from Australia was disappointed and embarrassed. I’d like to give this place another chance, because I can see it improving.

I’ll be moving to Sydney this June but I feel like the chefs needs to be either be Caribbean or at had to live there at some point in their life for you not to get these type of vulgar reviews I’m reading. You’re a business and should definitely take pride in trying to get that authentic taste and authentic Caribbean vibe that you guys are pitching and not just write it on a menu. Enough of the Afro beats and hip hop that’s played out…you need more or mainly SOCA, 90s Reggae, Dancehall, Trinidadian Calypso, Kompa, Reggaeton, Dembo etc.

Collab with the West Indian store on Renwick Street.

Much Respect and Stay Blessed

In town visiting from Hawaii, came in to try this place because we love Caribbean food, we’re a Caribbean family. Rude from the time we walked in the curly haired “black” appearing girl told us we had to leave in an hour since we didn’t have a booking and that she had someone else booked who will need our table, we hadn’t even ordered yet. The food was very mediocre. The service was tactless and slow. The drinks were mediocre as well. This was Not Caribbean food at all. As someone from Miami, Seattle, St. Thomas, and Jamaica you will not like this food. It’s Aussies pretending to know Caribbean cuisine/culture. I do not recommend if you’re looking for authentic Caribbean food! Worst Beef Patty I’ve ever had, Mac and cheese season-less, just trash. The jerk wings were edible but mediocre. I will never return here!

We don’t get too much chance to try Caribbean food in Australia, but this type of food has a depth of vibrancy in its flavours that will set your taste buds alight. We’re glad to have found Rosie Campbell’s for an authentic Caribbean experience!

If you want a fun evening with live music and a huge menu of rum based cocktails that will surely see you had a mighty good time. Perfect for a catch up with friends or a party, and on the weekends they also have a bottomless brunch with 5 courses and bottomless daiquiris to keep you going.

Located on the corner of Crown and Campbell street in Surry Hills, you’ll spot the yellow and blue exterior and outdoor seating. Though we recommend booking indoors to get a close table to the music! The indoor tropical vibes provides a taste of Jamaica with its on theme decor, pineapples, and palm trees and the live music, (reggae on Thursdays) further elevates the whole experience.

We like that the Carribbean food is so varied in its flavours, use of seafood, meat and veggies, drawing its influences from multiple migrants, creating a really multicultural and well rounded offering in its dishes.

The jerk chicken is a staple for the restaurant; a signature dish on their menu. It really packs a punch with its spicy and sweet glaze over the moist chicken thigh. A dish that had its origins in Jamaica, and the diverse flavours of this dish reflects the array of nations that settled on the nation over centuries. It is vibrant in appearance with the handfuls of spring onions and chilli topping the chicken. This is a must order.

They also have a goat curry, drawing it’s influence from the Indian migrants settling in Jamaica. The slow cooked meat perfectly falls apart in the sauce that has a depth of flavour to it, with small diced cuts of capsicum and potato. It’s served with a charred roti that is perfect to mop up the extra curry sauce.

Prawns are a popular choice here, and their Kingston coconut pepper prawns come served basking in a coconut sauce, with chimichurri, chilli, coriander, garlic and a coconut pita. Heaps of sauce that is so delicious, you’ll keep going back for more.

Another seafood choice is their Ocho Roos ceviche, made with tuna, passionfruit, chilli, coconut, lime and the plantain chips make a perfect match with this dish. We also had some jackfruit Patties, rice and ‘Jamaican festivals, cigar shaped sides made from fried flour and cornmeal dough with a spiced capsicum salsa.

Their cocktail menu is extensive, most of which are rum based. But there’s something for everyone, with sweet, sour concoctions and a few on the rocks. The cocktails are illustrated on the menu with its respective glass. They’ve also got a special old fashioned list and a a full rum list. We tried the Archane, a banana flavoured rum, straight up, and it was some hard stuff but super good.

The Jamaican Jungle came in a large parrot jug mixed with plantation dark rum, campari, pineapple, passionfruit, lime and cherry bitters. This one was a sweet and refreshing drink.

Another choice of ours, a really good banana flavoured drink, their Rummin Banana Milk punch came in a short glass with a cube of ice, made with arcane banana flambée, bacardi oro, sesame and cacao infuse orgeat, coconut water, lemon - milk washed. So smooth and we recommend this highly.

Staff were fun and friendly, very efficient and helpful. Ivana the host especially made it a memorable experience and was extremely hospitable.

It’s always full and on weekends, be sure to book and avoid disappointment. Check out their website to see the live entertainment schedule.

Don't choose the $69 menu, it's a rip-off. 1 small plate for 5 people.we were still hungry afterwards

Cocktails were okayish. But most of the food seemed like it was pre made and was very soggy. I saw this on social media and it looked decent but this is not the place to go for food. We ordered around 3-4 dishes for 2 people and the flavours in all dishes was very mild and all our food was soggy and cold.
Gave 2 points only because the drinks were average.

The music and vibe at this place were spot on, and the food was very tasty. You will especially love this place if you like spicy food. Highly recommend the curry goat and chargrilled octopus.

Only just tried this place out after hearing great reviews about it and was not disappointed. Very lovely staff, fast service and great decor and sounds in the building. Only had cocktails but I can say the rum jug and spicy mango margarita were both amazing and decent value! Would love to try the food too as it smelt amazing in there and looked great!

The atmosphere here was great, the Mai Tai cocktail amazing and the food wonderful. I especially enjoyed the jerk chicken and goat curry. Highly recommended. My only complaint was that they squeezed six of us into a booth better suited to four people.

Perfect example of what makes Sydney food hospitality great - the true genuine diversity it offers! Jamaican themed restaurant with a fun and tasty menu. Be sure to check out the long list of rum selection too! Live bands on site with friendly staff and a warm welcoming atmosphere. Get the couch seat against the wall of you can. It’s soooo comfortable? Slightly pricy but your guest will appreciate it.
