Rice Pantry - Marrickville reviews
44Super delicious bao and bowls that were super quick to be served. A little on the expensive side but the quality and taste made up for it.
We had the pork belly and chicken bao, papaya salad and vegetarian gyoza
Gyoza was flavourful but too crispy and crunchy for my preference. The texture of the skin was uncomfortable in contrast to the soft filling. The sauce it laid in was tasty. 3/5
The pork belly bao was preferred over the chicken. It was well spiced and balanced. It was delicious but didn’t stand out from any other bao bun I’ve consumed. 4/5
The papaya salad was disappointing. It was fresh but the fish sauce was too sweet.
Overall, the flavours catered for a western pallet. As someone who is SEA it left more to be desired. Additionally, it was quite expensive for the portion size and cuisine although the pricing in this area of Sydney makes sense.
Great menu here to explore!
We started with the crispy roast pork baos and curry roti before a delicious signature beef pho soup.
I'll be back for the same or maybe just a platter of the pork bars as were the best I've had!
I had the best meal in two weeks here, and my Asian stomach was so satisfied that I burst into tears!
Super meticulous processing of ingredients: the pork has no peculiar smell and the shrimp lines have been removed
Large portion: three people ordered two main dishes and two main dishes, which was quite filling
The taste is also great: the Vietnamese noodles are fresh and sweet, and the beef is tender; the shrimps are Thai sweet and spicy, and the meat is elastic; the pork is just the right amount of fat and lean, and the non-stick sauce is also very fragrant; I actually ordered fried rice, which tastes okay, but is a bit oily
Before I picked it up, I ate such delicious Asian food near Sydney Airport. I was so happy that it was better than many restaurants in Shanghai!
Note: Four dishes cost less than 120 knives
We ordered the $49 banquet last night which listed 10 items on the menu. The first 6 courses were delicious. However, we were suddenly told the 2 main courses (lemongrass chicken and Asian greens) were no longer part of the banquet towards the end of the meal. We were shocked to pay $49pp for 8 items (not 10 as advertised) with no compensation or alternative. We left feeling very disappointed and misled by the experience.
After I posted the above experience, I was contacted by the restaurant manager to apologies the confusion made by their staffs. I praised their customer service. Will come back again to try more dishes.
Long wait for food despite the restaurant being half empty, approx 45 mins, with a long interval between the buns arriving and main dishes. Food was flavourful but real salty. Overall, feels like it could be a 5* experience with these small tweaks.
Very nice and vibrant restaurant in a good location. The cocktails were great and the food was delicious, especially the bao buns.
WOW. We were visiting Sydney from down the coast and were looking for a Vietnamese restaurant locally to have dinner before a show and stumbled upon Rice Pantry on Google. I have to admit, when we pulled up and found it was part of the new eatery section of the shopping centre, we were a little cautious. The preconceptions quickly disappeared when we saw food being delivered to other diners. It looked incredible! We ordered 5 dishes across the menu for sharing and a couple of cocktails each. This is brilliant food! Simple, but fresh and oh so delicious. The roti with curry, lemongrass chicken and the short rib are a must!
The food is actually quite average, mostly fried with some interesting sauce. Not much of technical cooking. It’s a bit over priced on the serving in sizes and flavour is average too. A bit disappointed, thought this restaurant was special.
I came here for dinner and tried a number of dishes.
We kicked off with some net spring rolls that were crunchy, I just wished they were longer. The roti came next and was perfectly charred, accompanied by a dipping curry sauce that had the right intensity. The crispy pork belly bao had the right mix of textures and was really delicious. Our main was the super tender fall-off-the-bone lamb shank massaman which was also jam packed with flavour. We got some rice so that we could mop up every last drop of sauce.
I tried the pho on another visit that came with rice noodles were not the usual kind. While the broth was good, the smooth texture of these noodles did not let the broth stick which slightly compromised the flavours of each mouthful if I only used chopsticks.
Overall, I was really impressed by the quality of food, and the combination of textures and flavours in the menu.
Don't make any assumptions about its food by the decor and shopping centre location. Every dish is thoughtfully conceived and put together; some are truly inspired and unique. I learnt that each element of each drink and dish is house-made from quality produce. The chef clearly has a real passion for celebrating Asian Australian culture through culinary art.
Fantastic food and service, workers were easy to talk to and very polite. Will definitely go again!
Super delicious food that's well presented. Love the Wagyu, pumpkin everything and kataifi prawns. Great service and reasonable prices too. Had a great night.
Terrific staff, terrific food and fantastic atmosphere. The staff were very accommodating and friendly. Will highly recommend and will be back.
A lovely asian restaurant that serves fast clean and fine tasting food. Flavours are rich and wholesome and food was very innovative and smart.
Definitely recommend!
I usually do not leave reviews however the food and the service was really amazing. The food is innovative and really tasty. The team was so friendly and accommodating. Will definitely be coming back and letting everyone know about this gem!
Hi!
I am a regular at this restaurant but yesterday I popped in for lunch
I ordered the bao buns, the crunchy chicken yummmmm! And a drink
The young lady that served me was so good and friendly
When I left she remembered my name from the order and asked if it was ok using my name
Such a nice touch
Thank you
I’ll be back
The perfect atmosphere when indulging delicious food! I would definitely recommend the Braised Wagyu Beef Short Ribs which immediately melts in your mouth. Pair that with the Suddenly Lychee cocktail and you’ve got the best combo!
We had takeaway from Rice Pantry before and this is our first dine in. Everyone is super friendly, just makes me smile and the food is once again AMAZING delicious! Love everything we ordered, hard to pick a favourite still! Totally recommend, will be back!
Great food and nice atmosphere - had the pork belly, mushroom specials, fried chicken, soft shell crab, crispy shallot roti and eggplant baos. If there was a personal favourite, I think the soft shell crab with Singaporean chilli sauce was perfection. What a good idea on the subtle deep fried curry leaves. Others on the table loved the miso-butter mixed mushrooms. It was so good that we re-booked for another meal later this week!
