Queenscliff Rockpool reviews
13 It’s so cold and beautiful there, the rock pools are always better than beaches in my opinion. Personally I think Avalon does it better but this one’s a lot closer.
There’s usually lots of people tho: (
The eastern guard rail is broken from the force of the waves. It’s not enough to stop three slender brown boys from clinging on to it, turning to free fall into the 1937 concrete sea pool when the white spray hits. The sea pool’s location—Queenscliff—becomes apparent when one boy swears, only to be sharply rebuked by his mate: “Language! ”
You’ll find this sea pool by either crossing the golden sand from Queenscliff Surf Lifesaving Club on Manly side of the creek, or by a stairway down the cliff from the Freshwater side. Be warned, this was a moderate surf day, if it is pounding with a south swell, this northern hook location might not be the safest place to swim or get to from either direction.
The rocky outcrop has a great bench seat to watch the young boys jump from the rock into the pool, but be warned, some waves will reach your perch. Defaced signs tell you—of course—that this is forbidden. I liked the big briny smell, wildness and choppy pool waves here, that one surfboard rider was also enjoying.
The Sydney Rock pools experience is always an outstanding wonderful encounter with Nature.
The pools are kept clean through Nature itself washing in the fresh ocean waves of exhilarating salt water energy. The Council cleans out the pools regularly as well.
There is parking across the bridge from Queenscliff Surf lifesaving club.
There are shops there as well for food and beverages. There are toilets by the pool as well as at the car park.
The actual pool area is not totally accessibility friendly for everyone (YET)!
Pool wasn't very crowded on a Saturday afternoon. Conveniently located on the north of Manly beach.
A beautiful pool by the ocean with a great view of sunrise and the ocean.
Parking may be a challenge, but if you are early, you get it without any hassles.
An easy accessible ocean pool in Queenscliff. The facilities weren't as good as other ocean/rock pools that I've visited. Pretty views across to Manly from the rocky outcrop near pool accessed by stairs.
As president (20yrs) of the rockpool swimming club it a family swimming club with a million dollar view where kids learn to swim join the nippers across the and grow up to be responsible teenagers and then adults who then bring their children to join the club.it is a great life. COL ROWLAND PRESIDENT QASC SWIMMING CLUB Come and join us.
There is a literal hole in the wall place to explore nearby! A nice walk but difficult for those who are less mobile. The walk to freshie along the rocks is beautiful but would be challenging for some.
Pool water was green, murky and kinda funky. Never really been to any other rock pools aside from Clovelly so hard to know what to compare to. There's no actual path to get to it so you have to cross the beach which might be hard for some to manage. Length was a nice 50m but no lines so I ended up swimming diagonally though it was a good reason to practice sighting. Will keep exploring.
Love this little piece of manly. Walk past the pool into the rocks and explore the tunnel through the headland.
One of the cleanest shady pools on the beaches, Queenscliff is so easy to access from Manly, albeit with no flat hardstanding route. A quick jaunt over the beach and lagoon entrance or steps down from the headland get you down there.
The pool is a good 50meters with plenty of lanes for lap swimming. Can get a little rough during big seas but generally a very calm pool.
I swim in most of the pools throughout Sydney and this one has to be one of the cleanest I've had.
The groups of boys brazenly unlawfully bomb jumping off the high rock into the pool ruins the swim for me as a lap swimmer as it makes you so tense - one time they jumped less than a meter away and so frightened me and one lady said they actually hit her, and I know of several swimmers who have now swim at Freshwater rockpool due to these young men - I don't go swimming there on school holidays or after school as they often they take over the end of the pool.
It is also a pity that the Council does not invest some monies into the pool and put at least some lines on the base of the pool for lap swimmers, like the Freshwater pool which is now so overcrowded. I at times go to Wollongong and they have a magnificent immaculately clean 2x 50 m rock pools plus a kiddies pool, monitored by alert attendants, and the lap pool has lanes with ropes and lines. The pools are free to all - makes our Sydney rock pools look tacky and ill kept. With the high rates home owners pay and the fame of Manly beach, I don't know why Queenscliff and Fairlight rockpool are so far behind that of Wollongong rock pool.
