Pioneers Memorial Park reviews
45It's based in Sydney's Inner West in Leichhardt. I went to a Christmas Lunch through Vinnies Rozelle and Redfern, a really helpful charity organisation and one of the best in Sydney, they had great food, plenty of drinks, and lollies and Santa Claus came to give presents to the kids and babies of peoples families as well. I even bring my Flatmate and other mate from Auburn and we had a fantastic time for an hour. It was a cloudy and humid day not as hot as the scorcher the day before at around 40'C it was much cooler at least. PIONEERS MEMORIAL PARK has been there since it was built in 1868 as a cemetery and the cemetery was closed in 1912. That's the history of PIONEERS MEMORIAL PARK in Sydney's Inner West in Leichhardt.
A quaint park on Norton Street, Leichhardt. It has sprawling fields, a nice playground and many interesting features, including well-maintained garden beds and rose gardens. There is sufficient variation in plant species and ample shaded space. Although the play equipment is very fun and unique, it is certainly not built in a way that accommodates for wet weather. Overall, the park is unable withstand heavy rain and just needs slightly improved drainage. Despite this minor disadvantage, Pioneers Memorial Park is an expansive green public space with numerous paths and garden beds to walk around on and explore, a fairly interesting park in a great central location.
A nice park with lots of green space and a newly renovated playground. The playground is pretty good, with a water play and a variety of equipment for a range of ages.
On Norton Street, this is a great meet-up spot for a picnic or for kids to recharge before a dinner.
This park is the centre of the local community and an oasis of fresh air. The green space is well-maintained and it's even got its own water park now.
Loved the Festa and cars and the pasta from bar Italia with eggplant was like Nonna's home cooking very fresh
A good open space for the busy Norton Street. Plenty of big trees offering lots of shaded areas.
Good park for a short walk or to relax and eat lunch. A few more seating locations would be handy. Otherwise a nice, clean and tidy park
Great park close to restaurants on Norton. There's a new playground that has many parents up in arms (too unsafe!), but my grandkids and I find it a little lame compared with the area's best parks.
The new playground is great! We visited just after is opened and our kid really enjoys the sand pit (small rocks instead of sand are a big improvement), swings, and rope climbing. Lovely for both younger and older kids.
Great place to take the children plenty of playground equipment or just sit yourself under a tree and chill out
Great green space in the middle of town. Lots of winding pathways to stroll and grass to sit and relax. Popular with locals and their kids.
Used to be a big cemetery now a beautiful park in the middle of Leichhardt. Did you know that they only make a bed the headstones? Generations of inner west residents are sleeping peacefully beneath the ground.
In 1868 this site was originally known as the Old Balmain Cemetery. The site was 3 hectares and had 10,608 burials from 24 different religious denominations all but 126 burials took place prior to December 1908 the cemetery closed permanently in 1912. The area was declared and named Pioneers Memorial Park in 1941.
Walked around here today nice park it has a play area for the kids, bike track, memorial arch and statue, public toilets a rotunda building, rose gardens and benches.
Great park with a playground for the kids, and lots of nice green grass surrounded by trees for picnics and gatherings.
The family all had fun in the playground, it is not a big party area but a range of equipment. There are also toilets nearby
Great small park in Leichhardt with a popular children's playground. Good mixture of shaded areas and sun drenched spots. Lots of park benches to rest on and toilet facilities including accessible toilets
Great place to hang out with the kids, there is a place for dogs off-leash also a separate kids play area (opposite sides of the park)
Pioneers Memorial Park was formally the Balmain Cemetery. The site received over 10,000 burials of 24 different religious denominations. All but 126 of the burials occurred before December 1908. The Cemetery was renamed Pioneers Memorial Park in 1941 as a lasting tribute to the pioneers of the district and as a place of quiet recreation and enjoyment for future generations. The park has a memorial to the service people of Leichhardt who lost their lives in World War 1 (1914 – 1919) and the Bicentennial Rotunda.

A gem in the centre of leichhardt. A nice place to meet for a coffee and let the children run wild. A great little play area for kids young and old.
