Service and food was fast. Portions could have been a bit bigger on the rice dishes. Overall good experience

This is a Pho honours degree, not a PhD. The flavour was lacking in the dishes we tried. A strange alarm continuously went off in the background and the shop front was dirty. However the service was quick and the portions were decent.

An amazing restaurant for Vietnamese food. Price is amazing for the high quality fresh ingredients. I highly recommend anyone to try this restaurant. All the food was delicious however the rice paper rolls were a bit disappointing.

Main dishes were absolutely amazing, loads of flavour and large, generous portions. In comparison, the entrees were a tad bit disappointing, but still good.

I love everything. The salt and pepper tofu unexpectedly delicious and spring roll vermicelli, shaking beef were also the best we've had in the area.

Do not recommend takeaway laksa. Lacks flavour and truely tastes like budget coconut cream with some chilli oil added. Cheap noodles seem to be used with limited veggies. Cost was $25.00. I’d recommend the many other local Vietnamese restaurants (or heading to Newtown) before trying this one. My mistake on giving this one a go

It's on the main street and Saturday lunch proved popular. The sizes are reasonable. We had pork pancake, around $19, and combination vermicelli, around $21.

Thought this might be a nice place to eat tonight. Sadly. Not so. Food heavily salted, very small salad portions to add to the soup, plastic plates right out of a prison kitchen. Plates slide around the table and food slides around the plate. I think the staff here are from the north of Vietnam, and showed some disrespect to some one who came in to fix up their order. Then after she left, they laughed about her. I say North, because their accents and speech can be stronger than the south and the can be curt!

I get the feeling this place caters to tourists, and not VN people or those who love VN food. This means. You can get better food elsewhere.

Just had the worst Vietnamese pancake of my life. Ridiculously oily and crisp like a potato chip, inedible. Maybe some other dishes are better, but this was so bad I can’t return.

This used to be one of my favourite places to go for Viet noodles. The pho here came in a dark strong broth with a great variety of beef, fatty belly meat slices, balls and raw lean slices.

Another one of my go-to dish here was the bun bo hue, a spicy noodle soup with a variety of beef and pork, served with a range very vibrant vegetables on the side.

UPDATE: The original PhD shop has closed so I am hoping that the chef has also relocated to this location (what used to be a branch) to continue producing tasty noodle soups.

Caught up with our besties and decided to go to PHD. Had the salt and pepper tofu, salt and pepper squid, salt and pepper eggplant, spring rolls and vermicelli spring rolls. This restaurant is super busy however food came out super fast! All dishes were absolutely amazing! The salt and pepper eggplant and salt and pepper squid were so delicious that you really can’t stop at just a few. The texture and taste were spot on and probably the best we’ve tasted. The tofu was also very delicious. The vermicelli rolls had the perfect balance of flavours and the dipping sauce I could have drank! …. It was that good! The portion sizes were very generous and the staff were all so friendly and hospitable. We will most certainly make PHD a regular spot now …. Defs worth the drive!

Terrible pho, dry chicken and tasteless broth. Disappointing considering all the great places in Marrickville I could have ordered from. Satay was terrible too

Value wise, considering all of the modern pressures, and the current inflation woes, this place is truly one of the best places to eat in Sydney. If in doubt keep it simple and get the pho, and maybe the rolls, but trust me you will be stuffed! Look around and you see smiles and full bellies, or locals deep in conversation, most wanting to finish but stuck half way through their soup.

Encountered this Vietnamese restaurant while going on walks along the heart of Marrickville and decided to have a go. On Friday night the place wasn’t that busy but lots of deliveries though. The food came out super quick after we placed our orders. The beef pho tastes okay but not quite flavourful and the broth actually lacks a depth of spices and beef bone. The spring rolls and sugarcane prawn are good but the lemongrass pork is overly salty in the vermicelli bowl. All mains are at $20 price mark but personally I think it’s not good for value as of small portion sizes. Service is just okay - the serving ladies aren’t that friendly and kept clearing up our bowls as soon as we finished which I found quite disturbing and impolite. Also after coming home, I felt the surge of MSG building up inside and didn’t feel great at all…

Amazing food, more on the expensive side, but portions are great and huge selection of gluten free and vegetarian food. Always a winner with friends.

Pretty good, just not that consistent and the only pho place ive ever been that will charge you for the sauces and Chilli after being the most expensive pho you've ever bought lol

We used to go average once a week until they served raw chicken in pho and bad beef balls. Told the staff and they just took it away like nothing was wrong.
