Peacock Gardens reviews
57 I have been coming here for close to 30 years now and it is an all-time favourite.
The prices are edging up a little bit so it is unfortunately not something I can do too often but it is a classic Australian Chinese Restaurant Experience.
The servers are always friendly and efficient and the wine list is good.
Great food and exceptional service. Very nice high quality food, not greasy like some other establishments. Service was fantastic - they even gave us the option to cancel some mains after we over-ordered on entres, which was very good of them.
Such a shame to see this place being run by people who don’t like customers and would prefer to be anywhere but in this restaurant that means so much to so many. I’ve been coming here for many decades with dozens of Melb Cup and Chinese New Year amazing memories. My recent visit I just watched sour and energy draining service which of course effects the whole experience and the food. There was only one saving grace in a room that lacked any atmosphere and that was Davida
Fast service. We were served all our food within an hour. There was access without stairs for the elderly amongst us.
The friendly service is magnificent and the food is fantastic. Banquet price for the volume and quality of food is reasonable. Will come back again.
I remember my dad taking me here when I was 5. Met Matthew Chan and he gave me the chop sticks to take home. I am now 50. Its still a great place to meet and great. One of sydney's old school business lunch establishment. Well done for all the years ;)
Always hear that this is supposed the be a top quality Chinese restaurant. It was just OK. Can get much better food at a quarter of the price lots of other places.
If you like 80s decor, bad and indifferent service and exorbitant prices then go for it.
Service is awful, food is mediocre at best. There's a plethora of far better restaurants within walking distance. Don't waste your time and money dining here.
Dined in for a birthday - food was good but not enough staff - they tried their best but overworked
Worst birthday dinner ever! Ordered Half Peaking Duck and when it came the waitress argued with us and said no we ordered the roast duck (although the other waiter brought a trolley over and said “ I’ll leave this here for your Peaking Duck”) The Mustard Prawns we’re so souped in mustard and cold, they were inedible. The fried rice was also cold. No one ever came and asked us how our meals were and when I complained about the duck when leaving the MD took the waitress’s side. No customer is always right in this place.
Disappointing fried rice.oily … and not tasty.not the best sadly … will go somewhere else in future. … honey prawns were quite nice.
We had such a fantastic time! Staff are knowledgeable and extremely professional. The level of service is superb, they were silver serving a lot of the dishes which gave a special touch. Food and drinks are outstanding, especially their wine list offers a great range. Such a gem in the neighbourhood. Seeing some comments about staff not smiling under their masks is just ridiculous and unnecessary. We should be glad they are taking our safety seriously. Thanks for doing such a great job!
Thank you Peacock Gardens for a lovely family dinner. The staff were so kind and thoughtful, making suggestions for dishes our kids might enjoy, and getting their meal cooked quickly. Another staff member kindly spent some time chatting with our kids, making them feel welcome and helping them improve their chopstick skills:) Beyond the excellent service, the food was fresh and tasty - we all enjoyed our meal very much.
Peking ducks pancakes were delicious! Except the dumplings could have been smaller. Overall really nice staff.:)
A long time staple of the lower north shore. There's nothing fancy about it except the taste. Consistent and excellent food.
I took my mum along for a Lunar New Years Day lunch. The restaurant and staff were very nice however the food we ordered was not great. We only ordered steamed dim sims and a house specialty called chow sam see, but both were tasteless and salty; not even salvageable with soy or chilli sauce. In fact I began to wonder if I had covid. It was a disappointing experience
My fav Chinese Restaurant.
Great menu and fabulous staff all been there for years
Menu is different to most restaurants and alwzys delicious
Have been coming here for most of my life. Amazing team, amazing cuisine, should be three Michelin stars!
We had very bad experience for our first visit to this restaurant. When I rang them to make reservation, I requested to pre-order Peking Duck, but they told me no need to pre-order it, as they always have the dish available. While we were there, they told us the duck was sold out. Overall, the food was average and expensive. We were all very disappointed.
I know others have raved about their service and from some magazine articles they say their success is because of their service and that customers feel welcomed like family, but that was not what we experienced.
We went last night for my husband's birthday, as their Peking Duck is a special treat for us and we went last year as well. Whilst their food was fantastic, the service isn't matched. Even with masks, I could tell there was absolutely no smiles by our waiter and the new female owner. Service was cold and we were almost a nuisance, from the start of dinner till when we paid. I can't say the service was 'poor' because what needed to be done was done, but it certainly wasn't warm nor welcoming.
Perhaps because we weren't regulars, or that we didn't spend enough money or order seafood, but I don't think that should matter.
