Opal Cove Resort reviews
74Overall, opal cove resort is what it is, a family friendly resort that seems to focus on being average to maintain broad appeal.
Good site. Although cancelled my booking without my consent and I spent hours trying to fix it on Boxing Day - arrived and they did zero to try make it better. Didn’t service the room the second day. But still a good site and a great pool
Paid for ocean view room, if the give u room 330 and beyond you get no view just trees and a big wall, stayed here before and had no trouble with view but all end rooms no view
I stayed here with my 2 children for the weekend, kids enjoyed the pool
Bad points: Staff were not helpful at all (reception staff) told them first day we were there that the phone in the room didn’t work so when I needed to call reception I had to use my mobile phone. Wifi non existent and tv didn’t work (reception staff didn’t care and didn’t come to room to check it out). Air conditioner did not work and called reception again telling them that my children were freezing and there was no heating (once again no one come to check it out and no one offered to bring up a portable heater or extra blankets) raised this issue checking out and I was told this would be looked into and have not had any follow up.
The bed I slept on was like it had bed bugs because something was biting me all night and the noise coming from the room next door all night kept me up and had 2 hours sleep before a long drive home
Restaurant staff were nice and accomodating but don’t expect this from Reception or the managers I spoke to as they did not care
Fortunately or unfortunately, I should've put 3 stars. Our room was to be a garden view, but it was at the end of the building, showing the end of a tree lined garden I suppose, but you could see the car park beyond and old excavated building site.
The internal ceilings are showing their age with many water marks showing within the main area of the resort. The staff were fantastic as was the restaurant, their staff and their food.
Our room had automated air conditioning, that was supposed to "auto" adjust to be warm in winter, it didn't matter how low you turned the fan speed down the temperature remained chilly. We enjoyed our break, but would have second thoughts returning.
Restaurant food far below Resort standard.
They are better at Hungry Jacks. Sorry!
Would be good to have a talk to the Chef.
A better variety is recommended.
Loved, loved this resort. Excellent presentation, staff make you feel valued, dining wonderful, food fantastic, rooms clean and inviting, lots of car parking, open reception area that feels inviting to relax, water feature beautiful. Highly recommended
Room was very nice and clean. Position great. Nice view from the room. Staff friendly. Check in and out easy.
The reception was beautiful, with a huge waterfall.
The hallway was kinda dark and old fashioned.
The room was nice and modern, although the bathroom was dated.
I loved the arcade.
It was pretty cool to see a buffet during covid.
Overall nice stay, but I don’t think I’ll be back
If I could give them zero stars I would but 1 I will have to do. I have stayed here over a dozen times and tonight I checked in and conveyed that I’m an essential worker and that I have a Covid test every 7 days and my latest test being yesterday was negative. I basically got into my room and was just about to head to get something to eat when my hotel phone called to say that my booking was now rejected because I had been to greater Sydney within the last 14 days. Needless to say I am less than happy and will never spend another cent here ever again.
Nice rooms provided you get one that has been updated. I got an old room bit it was very Clean and tidy. Rooms are very large. They are in the transition of changing the aircon from cool to heat so check if your allocated room has been done. If not they provide you with an air heater which does the job but is noisy. Restaurant staff very friendly. No public transport is accessible but I used Uber or taxi so no problem getting to coffs then just bussed to areas of interest. Bus is great but don't run that often to outer areas.
Awesome huge reception area, in a very choice location with direct access to the beach.
Was in room 219 which offered a nice spacious room, with many extra comforts, but the amenities are very old and tired, and whilst you have individual temperature control of the air-condition, you don't have the option to select cold or hot.
Friendly service, good big rooms with good amenities, lovely decor, beautiful gardens, good value.
BOOK ELSEWHERE!
RECEPTION STAFF VERY RUDE AND UNHELPFUL
RESTAURANT STAFF RUDE AND ARGUMENTATIVE
MANAGEMENT STAFF ALSO VERY RUDE AND UNINTERESTED IN MY COMPLAINTS
GENERALLY ALL STAFF NEED TO MOVE ON AND GET OTHER JOBS, THEY ARE STALE AND TOTALLY UNINTERESTED IN PROVIDING GOOD CUSTOMER SERVICE
THIS HOTEL USED TO BE GOOD, I HAVE STAYED HERE MANY TIMES IN THE PAST FOR AN INTERNATIONAL MOTORSPORT EVENT THAT LASTED OVER A WEEK AT A TIME BUT WAS MOST DISAPOINTED WITH THE CURRENT MANAGEMENT AND STAFF LIKE ANY ROT IT STARTS FROM THE TOP AND WORKS ITS WAY DOWN TO THE BOTTOM
TAKE MY ADVICE. KEEP DRIVING PAST
For an older resort the place has a great feel to it. Staff were friendly and very helpful.
Rooms were more than adequate and all have an ocean view.
Great food. With a buffet and other options. Will stay again for sure
Building internal is very dated.
Horizon restaurant food is very nice & reasonably priced.
House keeping staff were very friendly and attention to detail in the rooms.
The bed is comfortable, the bathroom shower is a nice pressure.
The view on the western side was facing houses & adolescents in the ground on the southern side of the motel.
As some other reviews are correct stating you hear people talking outside your room & children running around the hallways.
I will try another motel next time we come to Coffs Harbour
We unfortunately missed our booking due to a mechanical issue with our car - travelling with children, we were focused on dealing with the car and not rescheduling our booking. We tried to reconcile our booking by asking staff at Opal Cove for a credit for the following night on the day of our arrival however they strictly pointed to their cancellation policy and advised that they would not accomodate our request even though we were offering to stay an additional night on our return leg. Stay away from this organisation, they clearly do not care for their customers and this is clearly evident with the poor state of this facility which I have read in other reviews. Very disappointed.
We stayed here as a last min booking due to the floods stopping our tracks. We were exhausted from our long drive and decided to take nap within the first 30mins of checking in we had a staff member access our room without introducing themselves (massive security issue). Which then carried on to maintenance work occurring in the room next door which continued for over an hour. Walls were paperthin enough to hear conversations word for word. When brought to the attention of what occurred with management they told us we could have our money and go else where.
Honestly we would if weren't that exhausted with driving. Only when I asked for another solution to this problem did they "upgrade us". The only thing saving this "resort" is its location on a beautiful beach. Staff are rude and online photos are heavily photoshopped.
Interiors are outdated. Better places just up the road.
Great customer service from all staff, resturant and bar were lovely, rooms sadly not so good, mould in bathrooms, tiles buldging in side of shower, 2 out of 4 towels were dirty, and the air con couldn’t be set at a good temperature. Needs a revamp!
Great view, clean well apointed room, family friendly, close access to beach. But overpriced, more of a family stay. Food was basic. Battered barramundi was overcooked and way too oily. Limited menu. Wifi was hard to access as some genious turned off the hidden router which was fixed by the friendly staff. Overall it felt a bit of a production line with minimal personal touch. I wont come back.
