Do I need to say more? No? Great
The place were jam packed with people during dinner, which meant noise and heat. The air conditioning couldn't catch up with the amount of people.
The foods are terrible. I could hand pick the one which are okay, such as Chicken Karaage (the batter is light and crispy), Beef Carpaccio (nice beef and ponzu with salad combination), and wakame salad (taste simply amazing). The rest is just AYCE trap.
Sushi (nigiri and roll) is jam packed with rice without any concern of filling whatsoever. It feels like, "Hey, you order it so you must finish it or we will charge you, even though it's just mostly rice and taste bad! " And you can't order sashimi without having all the terrible nigiri and roll. The tamagoyaki simply terrible, huge chance not made in house. Ebi still got veins and taste bland. Tuna feels frozen and watery. And all the roll basically just cucumber filling.
This pattern continues to other dishes, such as curry udon with lots of udon and a couple piece of katsu. Huge portion of fried rice. Bland Miso Soup. Overcooked beef yakiniku. The steak actually okay. The spicy ika is simply squid imitation cake, not a real squid. The tempura batter is dense and the sauce is bland. Takoyaki mostly just batter. The croquette is nice, but just potato without anything added. The agedashi tofu surprisingly okay with soft silken tofu.
The dessert was just okay. The sesame ice cream feels heavy and a bit rancid. The taiyaki feels like frozen product with adzuki filling and fried, nothing special.
The service is slow. Your order may come 10 minutes after you order it. And when you were hungry with empty table you got tendency to order more than what you need.
Overall, even though it's understandable it's an AYCE business which aiming to get as much profit as possible with as low as possible food cost, it simply feels terrible. There is no love for the food, especially the sushi. Yes, it is filling, but not satisfying. You can have your money worth better elsewhere, but not here. But, surprisingly all other people seems happy to dine here, maybe my standard is simply too high.
Great place, great food. Just remember, if you're a senior, remind them when they prepare the bill.
Waited for hour and half with two very hungry kids and only got less than 1/3 of our order. So many orders have been forgotten. Ironically, the receptionist told us we didn’t order properly! Looks like my phone has its own opinion to choose its favorite food!
Very bad dining experience and service, will never return.
Ordered from UberEats, 3 notifications of an extended delivery time from Okami, 1 hour later restaurant is “still preparing” so I give up and cancel my order. UberEats sends me a message that I’ll still be charged $41 because it’s passed 5 mins after placing my order. Take your money and provide nothing, crooks or incompetent, I’m not sure which one.
We went to the restaurant for the 5th time for lunch yesterday. The food has always been nice and service attentive and prompt. Yesterday was no exception.
However, Helena stood out yesterday - she was not only attentive and prompt, she was very courteous, attention to detail and used her commonsense in service delivery.
It is a buffet style service and when one wants extra portion of a specific item and not waste what will not be eaten, she assisted with the request and communicated with the chef. Nothing was too much trouble.
Such a class act is hard to find. She used commonsense to excel in service delivery; exudes a pleasant, warm and friendly disposition. What a credit to the restaurant.
Kudos Helena. We hope to see you again soon.
Love the food is fantastic, the sushi is great and nicely make, the best one is the beef carpaccio have delicious sweet taste from mayo sauce, 10/10
It’s exactly what one might expect for an all you can eat spot. The food was mediocre at best. Some meats were a bit chewy, fish not too fresh.
I came here around Sept/2022, and the experience was not bad.
The quality and the taste of the food is quite average.
The only downside was that you can't order specific sashimi/sushi you had to stick with the platter in the menu.
It's still a good deal with $40pp ish.
Also the order took much longer to come and the waiter harder to get, when it becomes busy/full house.
Recently, I tried to come here for me & myself in Jan/2023, and they rejected me.minimum buffet is for 2ppl plus.that's discrimination.
First time dine at Okami. Amazing! Food are fresh & service is very quick. Staff are very friendly. 100% satisfied! Thank you! Definitely will be back!
The service very poor there not enough workers to serve the people. Me and my family were waiting for very long for food and we left after not getting served.
Loved the food, the service and the atmosphere. Worth every dollar spent. Food was fresh and cooked to perfection
Really wanted to like this place but unfortunately the food was very poor quality. So many misses. Majority of dishes tasted like they came from bag in freezer and heated in microwave. Service was very good but overall not worth the money. Dissapointing.
After much publicity from a few food blog sites, decided to try this place with high expectations as the online images looks good. Despite arriving after 7pm, there a few empty tables, but as it was 2 of us, they gave us a small table at the corner. Immediately ordered the food. In conclusion, food is very average, udon soup was bland (water downed) deep fried items was oily and wet, gyoza was oily & had a dry hard skin, sushi plate had so much rice items. Teriyaki squid was like fake squid. Besides that ice cream, beef tataki, cooked prawns was more acceptable. Importantly the service was below acceptable, especially the chinese girl that wore black glasses, she was rude, impolite, as if she doesnt work there and forced to do this work.
Conclusion, wont be going back there again, there’s alot better options in sydney.
Such a great idea! Loved the buffet and vast assortment of freshly made to order Japanese foods on offer. The service was good. My favourite dishes were the miso beef and curry chicken. Definitely a place to try.
Food is okay, couple of good plates. But very underwhelming sushi for a Japanese buffet. Only two waitresses during weekend lunch rush hours. Had to wait for a bit for service. Overall, it was a pass. Nothing too exciting.
I had reservation for 2 people on Sunday. Everything was excellent. I received help and guidance enthusiastically from the friendly waitress. She is very active despite being short. Food was served quickly and was delicious. Especially the Gyoza, the crust is crispy and full of sauce. The sauce is rich and delicious, not oily. I had a very wonderful experience at Okami Marrickville. Appreciate and highly recomment.
A wide variety of dishes and a good price for the amount of food. Some dishes were a little bit oily but the fried rice and miso soup were amazing.
Awesome friendly and attentive service with food served quickly. Fantastic price for all you can eat. Try everything on the menu and you will be full and happy.
