Odyssey House NSW reviews
11The staff at Odyssey House are all great and very passionate about the recovery journey of residents and clients.
There is nothing therapeutic at all about this place. This is the magistrates get out of jail free card.
I had an outrageously unpleasant time at Odyssey house, i was welcomed by an oddly obese man that continued to chain smoke Rothmen reds with the windows up during the car ride to the establishment. On arrival i was welcomed by Trent, a lovely ice addict with no teeth and a 1% tattoo on his neck, instantly making a bond with Trent over glass barbie banter. Although the food was better then Silver Water Gaol i still didn't like the fact that all the councillors or Level 3s were fresh out of Gaol and giving me life advice. How can you seriously take advice from an uneducated criminal that tried to steal my lynx Africa deodorant.
As a supplier of professional services I found this organisation to lack integrity and honesty. The environment is toxic, negative and deceitful. Formal complaints have been made with governing bodies specifically in relation to the fundraising staff.
PeoPle say it’s liKe a Prison. Thing is everyone I Know has gone there to avoid Prison. And u are allowed to leave. So in that regard I gotta give it a three. However staff selling drugs really ain’t cool.
Been here twice absolutely hated it you do get treated like a prisoner and I was 4 months pregnant and was sanding tables without masks on so I was breathing in all the sawdust this place is an absolute mess they take all your Centrelink money and an only allowed enough for cigarettes I only lasted a couple of days just couldn’t be there absolute horrible place and felt very frightened to be there because you have to sit in a circle and dob ppl in for the smallest things you can’t speak to the opposite sex without someone listening in its dispicable! I’ve never been to jail but I can imagine that it’s similar! And the staff were so rude! Very belittling making you feel worthless. The place needs to be shut down or be looked into seeing so there are so many ppl there
Odyssey House. This is review is from the perspective of a recovered addict who has spent considerable time at this rehab. Most of the "staff" who interact with the clients are not educated or skilled in managing people with Addiction. All of the staff who are skilled or have an education have very minimal interaction with the clients. The guiding principle of most Drug and Alcohol rehabs in Australia is based on a Shame approach and Odyssey House is no exception. The Shame approach is directly at odds with the modern understanding of what addiction and an efficacious model of treatment is.
Do not deal with these people. The staff are incompetent and do not communicate appropriately with each other. You will not be treated with dignity or respect here. I think this place needs to team up with one of the universities so they can understand how to actually treat addicts correctly to ensure recovery.
There is nothing therapeutic at all about this place. Its the magistrates get out of jail free card. I highly recommend kadesh if you're needing help.
Stay strong and remember there's always a light at the end of the tunnel.
Absoloutley disgraceful. Abusive staff and You are forced to work and are treated like a prisoner. I hear they are currently looking into taking legal action against this place. This place is absoloutley despicable.
They keep you segregated from your loved ones in a way that only tears families apart rather than help heal. They expect you to do more chores than therapy. If one person is in trouble, everyone must suffer the punishment of that persons wrong doings. When you visit a loved one, you are followed around awkwardly by another resident, allowing for no private time with your loved one to discuss personnel issues. The whole program appears to try and keep the residents in a dark place and really doesn't cater to each person individually. Mixed rules and messages from those who are in charge. Cold hearted are those in charge, that upon a resident being told to leave the facility and who ultimately commited suicide, the residents left to grieve at this terrible time were almost denied the right to attend the funeral unless they had someone to cover their work shifts on the day. Mind you, this was only told to them the night before of the funeral. The whole place, for Shame. Did more harm than good!
