Ngununggula, Southern Highlands Regional Gallery reviews
34Small but intimate gallery was a surprise find for us in the area. Had an exhibition of artists and pets.
This morning we discovered this gallery. Children's artwork exhibition and dog exhibition were awesome. A great find.
A great regional art gallery.
Current exhibition of the broad range of contemporary art of the aboriginal people of central Australia.excellent.
Ample parking, disability friendly, kid friendly, clean toilets, donation entry. Education centre for schools.
Visit the fabulous Retford Park at the same time.
Love this gallery and the beautiful surrounding countryside. Friendly staff and wonderful exhibitions. Welcoming space.
What a great day out. 17 members of the Illawarra Outdoors Club converged on the Cafe prior to doing a tour of Retford Park.
Ngununggula staff were very helpful and our orders of coffee, tea and cakes were on our table very quickly. We were so happy with the whole experience we returned for lunch after our tour. Once again we were extremely pleased with the service and the food was truly delicious. I think I will have to arrange another trip there for another club I belong to.
EXCELLENT place to spend a few hours in a relaxing environment catching up with a landmark property of our early agricultural heritage. Beautiful buildings, magnificent gardens, wonderful forests of old growth trees, great natural landscapes and not to forget one of the most stunning pool/cabana designs ever.and one copied all over the planet. Excellent art gallery and a pleasant boutique restaurant with simple affordable meals
Wonderful community outing. Current exhibition is thought provoking and certainly worth a visit. Grab the details of the 2023 program as well. Looking forward to enjoying them throughout the year.
Always great gifts to purchase.
This is a great spot for kids - the last time we went they had a separate room with a 'draw your self-portrait' activity with easels and colouring pencils, mirrors etc set up. Our group of kids absolutely loved that! Please do more kids activities like that! However, the exhibitions themselves (I've been twice now) have never been very interesting to me, all very abstract and with insufficient explanation which probably doesn't bother some people and of course art is very subjective anyway! But I wouldn't go for the art, just for the kids activities (and on a rainy day it's a big open indoor space to run around in) and the excellent cafe next door. We did feel a bit disapproval from the person sitting inside the gallery who clearly didn't appreciate the noise our kids were making - if you're going to allow people of all ages in, please understand that even when parents are asking their children to be quieter, they are going to find being in a large open space indoors very exciting, and they are going to explore the exhibits in their own ways (of course we stopped them from touching things). The lady on the front desk, however, was really welcoming. I would also suggest that including a piece of art that children can actually touch/play with would be a huge winner with families - we recently went to an exhibition at Bundanon which did this, including a piece of art that children could actually try on and wear as capes/dresses etc. It really engaged them and was so fun for us adults to see as well.
Worth going there.lovely surroundings and interesting buildings.
Good cafe great coffee and cakes not cheap but worth the experience.
Love the gallery, the design and significance.
A small highlight detail were the Giannuzzi benches in the beautiful space. We so wanted to get up those stairs too. The welcome from the wonderful volunteers made it even cooler.the restaurant Hearth is so special ~ staff, food and intention all exceptional.
Fab art gallery specialises in indigenous art works. Has both permanent works and temporary exhibitions. I recommend this gallery. The building is in a disused cow barn in which the architect kept a number of elements from the days when it was operating as a barn. There is a cafe in the building. Word of warning as this place is hard to find via GPS. The position on maps is incorrect.
Fabulous building, interiors, design & space. Thought provoking exhibitions. Don't miss when visiting the Southern Highlands, NSW.
What a great place to bring the family and enjoy some fine arts. This is what Bowral needed.
I have come from Sydney on two occasions to visit this beautiful gallery. The exhibitions have been informative and well curated.
The cafe serves delicious food. A beautiful way to spend a day.
Beautiful spot for a gallery, let alone the feature that I was privileged to see, even the ladies whom were running the gallery / exhibition were most helpful, and the cafe next door serves up a great cuppa, I'm definitely looking forward to my next visit.
Oh, and they cater to those of us whom have mobility issues, I'm looking forward to strolling the garden path again, those natives will be awesome when in full array
Beautiful horse stables and dairy converted into an art gallery and restaurant. We loved the Ken Done and Rosie Beacon exhibition! We also booked a table at Hearth by Moonacres- their onsite restaurant which has fabulous food, excellent service and perfect coffee! Thank you
Great gallery in a beautiful location. Fantastic repurposing of an historic building creating interesting contemporary spaces to display art.
The Cafe is small with limited menu. Surprisingly, local wines are featured but not the main on the drink side. The food was challenging for some. Lots of kale. The art gallery is small and classy. Ken Done was featured when we went. Overall the gallery is an amazing asset for a local community and visitors.
A must see in the Southern Highlands. Friendly staff and volunteers, a warm space and a good Cafe. The exhibitions were delightful. It would have been good to have an activity where visitors could make a friendship bracelet to take away.
As a local, I am so excited and proud to have this fabulous art resource right on our doorstep. An old milking shed houses the gallery and it has been renovated sympathetically. The gallery is small, with only a handful of rooms. I've seen every exhibition to date-they have been carefully curated and beautifully installed. This is a lovely spot to spend an hour or so in the company of some beautiful pieces.
