Newtown Gym

A great community space where I was always welcomed with a smiling friendly familiar face and didn’t feel intimidated by gym sharks or muscle heads! Classes were challenging but accessible to all levels of fitness & always fun. Newtown Gym is really a gym for the locals with a real sense of inclusivity & community which I miss now that I’ve moved up the coast!

Great Gym, Culture and Community - A huge amount of space and variety of equipment that is well maintained and often refreshed - a great facility and a fair and reasonable membership. In addition, I couldn't recommend Mark more highly as a PT - exceptionally knowledgeable with injury and injury management and a real game-changer for my training, mobility, strength and overall wellbeing. No fuss, no nonsense old school gym. Very clean and tidy - the weights are always put away! Love the old school equipment and iron plates.

Excellent old school gym. Love going to train here as part of my fitness passport membership, place is always clean, staff are extremely knowledgeable and available to assist if needed.highly recommend.

If you are looking for a welcoming, LGBTQIA+ friendly gym this is the place for you. There is genuine, intersectional representation at this facility and the staff are so kind. It is a little vintage on the inside but that adds to the charm as the space is always super clean.

A gem of an inner-city gym - suitable for anyone of any age, size, gender identity, and/or fitness level, it’s the most comfortable I’ve felt at any gym, and at any fitness/training level. All spaces/zones allow ample space for members - regardless of the time of day I visit, I’ve never had an issue with waiting for a machine. The staff are helpful and compassionate, and the location is easily accessible via public transport.

I have been coming to this gym since 2003. This gym is well run and almost always a friendly place to train.

Newtown Gym is a great place to keep fit. It has friendly staff and a non-threatening atmosphere. There’s no silly posing here - just the diverse Newtown community exercising (and having a chat occasionally, if that’s what you want).

Great local gym! Not intimidating for new gym goers, everyone is very friendly and helpful. Great classes too. Highly recommend!

This gym is a time capsule! The equipment is old school (which means it's the good stuff; never breaks always pumping). The staff are 100% genuine and non-sales-pushy. The music is never too loud and it's very affordable. Highly recommend it!
I'm also an ex FF member; and if your thinking of converting don't waste time you won't regret it!

Never had a better experience with a gym. Great selection of equipment, great availability and above all the most excellent staff. Felicity and Bob in particular were INCREDIBLE. 10/10 would gym again

I love this gym, and I’m not a gym person. Super friendly, diverse & inclusive and welcoming, and they have excelled on meeting COVID safety standards. Melissa & Jordan are excellent instructors. This is a well equipped community gym, not a Fitness First that caters for pretty young things only. And… it was where AC/DC used to rehearse in their early days.

I love this gym. Ive been a member for a few years now. The classes are great, the staff are friendly but mostly I love that it's unpretentious. Give it a try, you won't be disappointed.

Newtown Gym is awesome, easily the friendliest gym in the area. The recent revamp has really opened the place up and it feels like members are doing more different sorts of training. The range of classes has also been expanded, with some tougher sessions alongside the existing offerings. Definitely try this place out, it's for everyone.

My partner and I have been members for over 12 months now. We highly recommend this gym to others because;

1. The staff are extremely friendly and approachable
2. Great range of workout equipment
3. Other members are respectful, zero attitudes about
4. Decent change rooms
5. Reasonable Membership pricing

Best gym ever. A real gym, no pretence or fakeness, just a fantastic gym that is absolutely perfect.

I have been a member of The Newtown Gym for many years and continue to renew my membership for the following reasons, the gym is centrally located with up to date equipment and many professional and varied classes but probably mostly because the staff and management are friendly and helpful and always seem to always have the members best interests at heart i.e. You ask for something or make a suggestion and they actually listen to you and many of the requests are implemented.

If your looking for a gym with a friendly professional, fitness focussed atmosphere then I highly recommend The Newtown Gym.

This gym is truly a gem, the staff are so friendly and welcoming. Such a nice environment to work out!

Unfortunately not the gym for me, need to update some of the equipment & the plates are looking worn. Highly suggest new squat racks too.

If you like using machines & classes then this may be the place for you.

The staff were friendly & it is a relatively clean gym however it just needs a revamp. It feels & looks old compared to the gyms I have been to.

I will miss this gym so much! Sadly having to cancel my membership as I'm moving interstate, I cannot praise the wonderful staff, experience and positive and inclusive culture of Newtown Gym enough. Thank you so much for all that you do!
